Accommodation Details
I just love this cottage, the interior, the setting, the peace and tranquillity.
The owner has put their distinctive stamp on the cottage to create a contemporary cottage interior. Beautiful fabrics and furniture, relaxing colours and antique four poster beds give this cottage a sense of elegance. The kitchen is cosy and homely; the bathroom has a nautical touch. When in Bangor check out the owner's shop, Jo Pott, Mercer on the High Street.
Bryn Derwen sits in the middle of a pretty terrace of cottages in Betws Garmon, a small village within the Snowdonia National Park, halfway between Caernarfon and Beddgelert.
If you can tear yourselves away from the cottage there's masses to do. The village has a request shop to board the Welsh Highland Railway to travel into Caernarfon, or jump off at Rhyd Ddu and take the path to Snowdon or the Nantlle Ridge for a day's walking. There are footpaths from the village to Mynydd Mawr (locally known as the Elephant) and from the oak woodland owned by the cottage you can follow a steep trail which leads to the Snowdon ridge. With other villagers, the cottage enjoys use of a field for recreation including fishing and swimming in the river. If you are a railway enthusiast, walker, climber, or bird watcher, this is the perfect place for you! By car, pop to Beddgelert or Porthmadog to enjoy Black Rock Sands, the castle at Criccieth or visit the Italianate village of Portmerion. In two directions from the cottage there are pubs. Both two miles along the road, serve food, one has a Micro Brewery, the other specialises in Real Ales.
The pretty beamed sitting room, with the most breathtaking view of river, mountain and steam trains, has a comfy bed sofa, chairs and desk around a log burning stove. There's satellite TV, DVD and plenty of books and games.
The cottage kitchen, with quarry tiled floors and dresser has a Smeg, two oven range, dishwasher, fridge, and CD/Radio player. In the pantry there is a freezer, washing machine and microwave oven and oil central heating boiler. Door to the steeply terraced garden.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms beautifully presented. The front room has views over mountain and river, and has a king size bed. The second room has a 4' and a single bed and looks on to terrace and garden. Up a steep but safe stair, is a third bedroom with single bed and views onto the garden and woodland. The jolly bathroom has a nautical flavour and has a bath with shower, loo, wash hand basin, and heated towel rail.
The terraced garden is a series of intimate spaces. The first terrace can be reached through the twin room. Beyond is a small sun room with cane furniture ideal for dull days to while away the time reading the papers or a book. The gazebo area has chairs to enjoy the stunning views above the cottages to the hills.
