Accommodation Details
At the heart of the house is a beautiful bespoke rustic oak staircase which divides in two to lead to each of the two bedrooms. In these rooms and crossing the landing, you can enjoy the old pitch-pine beams which support the roof - they run the whole length of the building as single lengths of wood, all 15m of it! You simply can't get wood like that anymore! The main bedroom has a fireplace with a traditional cast iron surround and slate hearth (decorative only due to modern fire regulations), and the second bedroom comfortably accommodates three single beds.Downstairs, the main living area is open plan, giving plenty of space and light. Double full-length glazed oak coach doors lead from the small enclosed court yard-style garden into the comfy living room which has a traditional cast-iron multi-fuel stove. One of the sofas in here converts into a high quality double-bed if you need addition sleeping space. On the far side is the kitchen space. We are very proud of the bespoke pitch pine cupboards which were hand-crafted from reclaimed doors with a maplewood worktop and double Belfast sink - the kitchen is both beautiful and functional, with ample room for the extendable wooden kitchen table for sociable family meals. There is a solid oak barn-style door leading to the welsh slate patio and walled garden from the kitchen. This gets the morning and early afternoon sun, and is perfect for alfresco breakfasts/lunches at the stylish patio furniture.
The internal door from the kitchen leads to a good-size lobby which houses the freezer, washing machine, additional work-surface, traditional clothes airer, traditional settle and space to hang coats and cast off boots and shoes. There are two external doors leading off this room ; a barn-style oak door leads to the front slate-walled garden and a full length narrow window door leads to the decking area and field at the back of the house where you can enjoy the afternoon and evening sun - perfect for a BBQ or watching the bats flying at dusk!
The lobby leads through to the elegant slate-tiled bathroom, with bath, toilet, sink, heated towel-rail and a large luxurious shower.
All the downstairs floors are made with random slate slabs and have under-floor heating. The heating comes from an environmentally-friendly Air-Source Heat Pump. All the appliances in the property are ‘A'-rated for energy efficiency. All the windows are made of Welsh oak, double-glazed, with oak windowsills and lintels. We indulged in pure nostalgia when we put in reproduction Bakelite light switches, but we're sure you'll love them like we do!
And finally, you may be lucky enough to share the coach-house with our resident barn owls during your visit. Western Anglesey is a stronghold for the species, and we have witnessed many chicks raised and fledged from the Coach-house chimney. When we renovated, we brought the old chimney back into use for the two fire-places. However, we didn't want to deprive the barn owls of their nesting site, so we built a second fake chimney on the other gable end to act as a barn owl nest box!
