This Grade 2 Listed cottage was the home of Sir Kyffin Williams who lived here and painted in his studio beside the house. An idyllic setting with the Menai Strait lapping in front of you with the majestic back drop of Snowdonia. Looking down the Straits you see a phenomenal feat of engineering - the tubular bridge built by Stephenson, the entrance to which is guarded by the magnificent limestone lions, made by John Thomas who also worked on the House of Commons and Buckingham Palace, and the splendid statue of Admiral Lord Nelson which was crafted by another Admiral - Admiral Clarence Paget. A little corner of Anglesey steeped in history.Now completely refurbished by its new incumbent artist Sophie Keir, Min y Mor is a peaceful relaxing sanctuary where you can sit and watch the boats sail by, the birds, the mountains, the sky, at night time there is little light pollution and you can see the moon rising from behind the mountains a truly magical spot.
I just love the cottage. It is very welcoming, quirky, contemporary, cosy and calm, the combined kitchen dining room is so welcoming. A great place to sit and relax around the farmhouse table which will seat up to 12, the stove set into a deep slate fireplace flickers away so cosy on cooler evenings. The kitchen is bright, neat and fits in really well, equipped with range cooker - gas hob and electric oven, fridge, the utility room houses an American larder fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, sink, and extra cupboard space.
The sitting room has rugs on the slate floors, comfy sofas and chairs, gas wood burning stove, i-pod dock, CD player, TV with DVD and BT Vision Broad Band and the most wonderful views!!
Upstairs to four delightful bedrooms, I love the landing it has a great feeling of light and space, sit in the window seat and watch the water slink past down to the open sea. Two double bedrooms: one with a king size bed and small TV and a double bed. A further two rooms with two single day beds which convert to double or twin beds, though it will be a trifle tight!! All the beds have Egyptian cotton bedding, comfy mattresses and Sophie's paintings adorn the walls adding to the charm of this dear little house. The bathroom has bath, loo, basin and towel rail, the shower room downstairs has shower, loo and wash hand basin.
Outside the pretty courtyard with its painted wooden door is a delight ideal for alfresco meals, you could be any where in the world!!
We've just returned from a glorious week (Sept 24th - Oct 1st) in Min Y Mor. This cottage is fantastic. Generously proportioned it has all the mod cons and items you need for a really comfy, cosy stay. The setting is gorgeous, neighbours friendly and helpful and with plenty to do in Anglesey we certainly would love to return. Andrea Shillinglaw
