Accommodation Details

Nestling in the heart of the Llanberis Pass in the stunning Snowdonia National Park.

Ty Maen is surrounded by amazing mountain peaks on all sides, Snowdon to one side and the Glyders on the other. The view from the front of the cottage is the awsome Crib Goch ridge, on a clear day people can be seen on all fours scrambling along this world renowned ridge. The Snowdon Mountain Steam train can also be seen as it makes its way to the summit of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales and England.

Rock climbing routes like Cemetary Gates and Cenotaph corner were put up in 1951 by Joe Brown and Don Whillans. Some 56 years later climbers can be clearly seen ascending these same routes. During the winter months hardened ice climbers can be seen ascending frozen ice falls as they summit with frozen noses and fingers.

Access to all the cliffs and beautiful mountain walks can be accessed if wished without having to get in your car once you have arrived. A bus route is available five minutes from the cottage to take you further afield on your rest days from all that walking and climbing.Cooling rock pools surround the cottage to cool your feet once those boots come off at the end of a hard days walking, followed by a relaxing BBQ on the slate terrace whilst watching the sun set in the valley.

Ty Maen is a cosy cottage with central heating. Spacious sitting room with sofa and chairs set around an electric flame wood burner, with dining table to one end. Freeview TV, DVD, and CD player. The well equipped kitchen has electric cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and plenty of good utensils.

Two bedrooms, a double room, two small steps lead to this. The twin room is up an open plan staircase from the sitting room. Shower room with shower, loo and wash hand basin.

A 5 minute walk to the local pub or 10 minutes car drive to the village of Llanberis which offers some of the best visitor attractions in North Wales and restaurants and cares to satisfy the most discerning diner to the starving climber!

This cottage offers complete peace & tranquillity amongst a rugged and ancient landscape.

Visitor Comments

I stayed at Ty Ma’en the week of 3 September. Absolutely stunning location which cannot be faulted – even the weather couldn’t detract from that, and it rained every day but one (not all day, but every day!). In fact, there were a couple of storms which got the tumbling stream in SUCH full spate that you couldn’t see the boulders – and it made the location even more magical. A great location for all that you would wish to do in this area.

Such welcoming hosts too but never intrusive. The only downside as far as I would say is that more comfortable sofa required – nice soft cushion to the sofas, but on hard wooden board which made certain areas ache after a short while!

The photos really do not do Ty Ma’en justice.

This place really does cleanse the soul!

I don't know what to say...we have just stayed here for the first time and will be re booking. I have given / will be giving the details to most people I know. You often see rave reviews about cottages but Ty Maen is something special, blissful, a haven - sorry for the cliches. It needs someone more articulate than me to do the place justice.
The first morning I woke up early, opened the front door and looked out to see the sun rising over the mountains and frost on the grass. You are immediately surrounded by peaks, ridges, boulders, stream and waterfalls. A Greater Spotted Woodpecker flew into the garden and landed on a tree feet away from me. The day was perfect. Brilliant blue sky and we walked / scrambled over the ridge opposite to the two lakes on the other side. The water from the waterfall at the top was delicious.
You could not ask for a lovelier, more peaceful, dramatic, cosy, place to stay. The bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept on and the whole cottage is so tastefully and unfussily furnished and decorated. Everything you need is there and there is so much to do within easy distance.
The owners, Louise and Pete, were so relaxed, welcoming, helpful and warm towards us. They obviously benefit from living in such an amazing place. Needless to say we did not want to leave at all and are still carrying around with us the vision of the craggy mountainous view out of every window and the sounds of the birds singing and the stream rushing past.

I hesitate to review the cottage for fear that I will be letting the secret out.

I arrived in torrential rain but this could not hide the stunning location of the cottage. You approach the cottage via a track which crosses over a raging river using a wooden bridge. The cottage is a converted farm building – after you park, you follow a short path which leads you through a passage between two gigantic boulders into the garden of the cottage. The cottage seems to grow out of the landscape as it is surrounded by more huge outcrops of mountain rock.

Inside the facilities are perfect - everything you need in a holiday cottage and the beds are amongst the most comfortable I have slept in.

As to location - you couldn't be in a more perfect place to explore North West Wales.

In one word - magical.
