RNLI Trearddur Bay Sea Swim

Trearddur Bay on Anglesey is playing host to the third of the RNLI Sblash Series of sea swims. Participants can choose from 750m or 1500m (1 mile) swim distances. The swim starts from the water’s edge on the beautiful sandy beach and heads off into the bay before coming back to the finish or, for 1500m swimmers, another lap before the finish on the beach.

Trearddur Bay is a sandy bay, with blue flag status, and one of the tourist hotspots of Anglesey, North Wales - the RNLI here were also honoured with Prince William & Princess Catherine's first offiicial engagement together, naming the new lifeboat.

The area is great for outdoor pursuits and sea-based activities. There is also a children’s adventure playground close to the beach.

On crossing the finish line, competitors’ results will be available instantaneously via a computerised system; and they will receive a souvenir swim cap and goody bag. There will be prizes for the first male and first female. However, beginners are especially encouraged to take part, and there will be Novice Swim Waves. These are where those new to sea swims are set off together in groups where they can expect more of a gentle ‘bob-along’, as opposed to the washing machine experience of the racing waves! The focus of the Sblash Series of sea swims is on encouraging people of all ages and abilities to participate, have fun and just do their personal best.

As an added incentive to take part in any of the RNLI Sblash events, swimmers are being encouraged to fundraise for the RNLI, helping them to raise vital funds for their volunteer crews throughout North Wales. The RNLI are asking all swimmers to raise £50, and if they pledge to raise £100 they will receive a RNLI T-shirt.

Race starts 4pm
23rd July 2011
