Anglesey Beaches

Explore the Hidden Coves and Sandy Beaches of Anglesey

The rugged coastline of Anglesey offers visitors some excellent beaches.

Aberffraw - Traeth Mawr

With a back drop of some of the country's finest sand dunes this long sandy beach is enclosed between two headlands which form part of the Anglesey Coastal footpath - this beach is totally un-crowded even on the hottest of days as not many people know it's there, you have to walk along the tidal river estuary to get there - 10 minutes.

Llanddwyn Newborough

Glorious long sandy beach with the Menai Straits at one end and the Malltraeth Estuary at the other end, Llanddwyn is an extremely popular destination with its romantic peninsula named after the Welsh patron saint of love, Dwynwen. Welsh Valentine's day is in January. The headland with its little white lighthouse can be seen from the mainland warning boats of the rocky prominentry and headland. Dogs are restricted in the summer months and can only walk one way!

Llanddona

On the east side of the island a Blue flag beach and a wonderful family beach again as it is so huge it doesn't get crowded.

Lligwy

This beach is a great secret and great for families with clean white sands wonderful for picnics and a family day out building sandcastles and enjoying family and friends. There is a little shop in the car park.

Trearddur Bay

The shore here is busy in the summer with families and a very busy sailing schedule - most of the boats launch from a cove around the corner. Lots of families enjoy the clean happy beach with an ice cream van and walking distance from shops and loo's.

Porthdafarch

Such a pretty cove surrounded by fantastic cliffs and rugged walks, this beach and surrounding rocks are much used by the outdoor centres for coasteering, kayaking and canoeing.

Cable Bay

This beach is popular with visitors and locals, safe swimming and sheltered (not brilliantly clean - Ty'n Towyn next door is cleaner) once on the beach. These two beaches are busy all the year round. The beach is surrounded by two headlands, a walk around the headland is very popular to the Burial Chamber and a fantastic view of Anglesey and then round to Ty'n Towyn and back along the newly built pavement walk takes 20 minutes or so. Ice cream van at Cable Bay. The assent to the beach is steepish!

Rhoscolyn Beach

A beautiful, gently shelving beach, ideal for swimming.  Get there early, as there is only a small car park.  Because of this, it never gets too busy either!  Loo's in car park.  There is a super walk from here up to the old Coastguard look out with wonderful views across the island and across to the Lleyn Peninsula.

Church Bay

A large beach backed by cliffs.  When the tide is out, there are some exciting rock formations on the beach that are great fun for rockpooling and hide & seek!  Lovely cafe above beach selling the best homemade scones served with strawberries and cream! There is quite a steep walk down to the beach from the car park.
