Ffordd Pen Llech<\/strong> in Harlech has officially been announced as the steepest street in the world.<\/p>\n

The Guinness World Records have verified the road’s gradient at a whopping 37.45%. It has overtaken Baldwin Street in New Zealand, who up until now have been front runners with a gradient of 35% at its steepest.<\/p>\n

The street lies adjacent to Harlech Castle<\/a>; the medieval fortress built by Edward I during his invasion of Wales in the early 13th century. During the lengthy process, local campaigners had to reach a set of 10 criteria using hi-tech tools for measuring. In order to qualify, the street must also be used frequently by the public. With the castle to one side and stunning views of Snowdonia<\/a> to the other, this was one criterion that could be easily ticked off.<\/p>\n
