Beaumaris, Anglesey<\/h2>\n

Beaumaris lies at the eastern entrance to the Menai Strait and is possibly most well-known for the unfinished masterpiece which stands proudly at the end of Castle Street \u2013 we are, of course, talking about the mighty Beaumaris castle!<\/p>\n

The views from Beaumaris seafront stretch as far as the eye can see; from the Great Orme, across to the beautiful mountains of Snowdonia<\/a>\u00a0and down the Menai Strait. 1. Explore Beaumaris Castle<\/h3>\n

A symmetrical fortress and mighty stronghold, Beaumaris Castle<\/a> is known as the greatest castle that was never built. It was the last of Edward I\u2019s mighty Welsh castles and makes up part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Built on marshland, the story goes that the french builders called it \u2018beaux marais\u2019 meaning beautiful marshes. It is thought this is how the name of Beaumaris came about but as they say \u2018the rest is history\u2019! You can learn all about Beaumaris Castle, one of North Wales\u2019 best castles<\/a>, by taking a stroll around the castle and its gorgeous grounds.<\/p>\n

The castle\u00a0is\u00a0owned and maintained by Cadw and costs \u00a38.30 to visit.<\/p>\n

2. Relax on Beaumaris Beach<\/h3>\n

This small beach is a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Separated by the popular Beaumaris Pier, you\u2019ll find a small, sandy beach on one side and a mixture of sand and shingle on the other.<\/p>\n

Pastel coloured houses align the shore and the beach is south facing, towards the iconic mountains of Snowdonia<\/a>. A great place to spend the afternoon with the family.<\/p>\n

3. Visit The Lifeboat Station<\/h3>\n

Beaumaris Lifeboat Station<\/a>, celebrating 100 years of lifesaving history back in 2014, is well worth the visit.\u00a0Why not pop into the shop and support our local volunteers.<\/p>\n

The lifeboat station can be found near the promenade and is home to Atlantic 85, the RNLI\u2019s most advanced inshore boat.<\/p>\n

4. Take a Ride on the Menai Strait.<\/h3>\n

If you fancy venturing off dry land, then Beaumaris is the place to be. You can catch\u00a0plenty of boat trips from the pier, such as Sea Coast Safari\u2019s<\/a> and Anglesey Boat Trips<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ride the waves along the Menai Strait and sail under the famous Menai Bridge or take the trip to Puffin Island for wonderful scenery and plenty of wildlife. Just be sure to pack your binoculars!<\/p>\n

5. Go Crabbing on The Pier<\/h3>\n

Beaumaris Pier is also a favourite for crabbing and it is lovely to see families decorating the railings on a sunny day with buckets brimming with the day\u2019s catches!<\/p>\n

The lower railings of the pier allow you to thread the crabbing line through \u2013 to avoid any lost bait. It doesn\u2019t matter how old you are \u2013 crabbing in Beaumaris will keep you entertained for hours at a time.<\/p>\n

6. Visit Penmon Priory and Penmon Point Lighthouse<\/h3>\n

Not far from Beaumaris is\u00a0Penmon Priory<\/a>\u00a0and Penmon Point Lighthouse<\/a> \u2013 where you can practically touch Puffin Island (well, it feels like it at low tide!).<\/p>\n

    Where is Beaumaris?<\/h2>\n

    Beaumaris is located on Anglesey in North Wales. Once you have arrived on the island, take the A545 east along the coast and a short drive will lead you directly to the centre of Beaumaris.<\/p>\n
