“Lovely peaceful location and house made a great base and very comfortable for a larger party.”

Gardens are lovely and we enjoyed them immensely.

Gardens are lovely and we enjoyed them immensely. Not far to the local beach and red wharf bay although the steep lanes need to be considered if cycling! Enjoyed exploring this area of Anglesey. Some spare sheets and towels would be helpful for larger group

The property

Tucked away in the village of Llanddona, close to the bustling town of Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey, this is delightful property, Porth Y Dre.

Boasting five bedrooms across two floors, this is a fabulous base for families and friends to use whilst exploring the attractions of North Wales.

Upon entering this attractive home, you will appreciate the neutral styling and the welcoming feel; the sitting room is cosy and intimate with an electric fire and wall-mounted TV, making it a fabulous spot to unwind following a day of activity.

Move into the kitchen where you can sit at the breakfast bar and keep the chef company whilst they prepare tasty home-cooked meals, which can be served at the dining table with a bottle of wine.

Enjoy a moment in the spacious conservatory or take a favourite drink outside and relish in the good weather, with lots of space for the little ones to play.

When its time to rest, climb upstairs to access four of the bedrooms, including two king-size bedrooms with en-suites, one of which benefits from zip/link beds for added flexibility, while there is also a double and a twin served by a shower room, and another double on the ground floor, ideal for those with limited mobility.

When you’re ready to tear yourself away from this charming abode, just a mile and half away is Llanddona Beach, a long sandy stretch that forms the eastern end of Red Wharf Bay, perfect for swimming, sunbathing and sandcastle building.

The nearby town of Beaumaris hosts a plethora of amenities, with the simplicities of shops and eateries to cultural delights including an imposing castle, a museum, an art gallery and a scatter of historical landmarks, not forgetting the wonder of Puffin Island cruises and sea fishing trips being alternative options, so you can explore the area in a different way.

If you’re willing to travel further, be sure to visit Holyhead where daily ferries run to Dublin, or travel in the other direction and head for the Snowdonia National Park, where you’ll find plenty of walking routes and some of Wales’ most incredible scenery!

Porth Y Dre offers adventure around every corner, a superb base from which to tour Wales.

About the location

Menai Bridge 4 miles.

Beaumaris is a well known historic town on the Isle of Anglesey situated on the Menai Strait and overlooking the Snowdonia mountain range, making for the most stunning of sunrises. With its medieval castle (now a World Heritage site) dating back to the reign of Edward I and its Victorian pier, gaol and courthouse, it is also known as a major centre for yachting. Beaumaris is rich in history and retains much of its medieval street pattern. It’s setting, diversity of architectural styles and periods, differing scale, open spaces, varying roofs and overall quality contribute greatly to the town’s character. There is a good selection of shops, restaurants and public houses, as well as fishing opportunities and boat trips in the town, plus a golf course nearby. Along the coast is a large bay called Red Wharf Bay; its Welsh name is Traeth Coch (Red Beach) and the area is renowned for its glorious sunsets. The bay is very shallow and at low tide, almost 25 square kilometres (10 sq. mi.) of sand is uncovered providing safe bathing, perfect for wonderful family fun, fishing and miles of stunning scenic walks. Further afield is the port of Holyhead, which has regular ferry links to Dublin. Beaumaris is a good central base for touring Wales, in a beautiful location on the south coast of the picturesque Isle of Anglesey, within easy reach of the spectacular mountains of Snowdonia.
