“We had a wonderful stay over Christmas.”

Hosts were welcoming and so lovely! They added so many little touches, including a Christmas tree. We weathered a few storms, but the cottage was super cosy, especially with the wood burner lit. The kitchen was really well equipped, and the bed was really cosy. Everything was a really high standard, the perfect festive treat. I would love to come back and stay again, thank you!

The property

Yr Hen Oriel is a high quality, barn conversion settled within the owner’s grounds, in the hamlet of Ceunant near Llanrug.

Ideal for families and friends, this charming country retreat is a great choice for a welsh adventure, whatever time of the year. After arriving in the ample off-road parking, step into the open-plan living space, the social hub of the property; where you can spend your evenings unwinding besides the relaxing flames of a cosy log burner. The kitchen boasts a lovely centre island and plenty of modern appliances, including a ceramic hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, wine cooler for that perfectly chilled bottle, and even a dish washer, to make life that little bit easier. Relax into the peace and privacy that comes with this barn conversion, with a private enclosed garden and patio to sit back and admire the woodland setting, whilst sipping on your well- deserved beverage. Round off the evening with a luxurious soak in the open plan bathroom, before wrapping yourself under the king-sized duvet and drifting off to sleep. Additionally there is a twin room with a contemporary open plan en-suite shower, providing a great option for children. Walkers, climbers and cyclists will be in awe of the surrounding area, with plenty of impressive mountains, routes and tracks to explore the beauty of Snowdonia and the breathtaking Coast line of North Wales.

With Wales being the first country in the world to have a footpath around its entire coastline. Why not take advantage of one of the largest natural lakes in Wales and enjoy paddle boarding, kayaking or even wild swimming in this glacially formed lake of Lake Padarn in Eryri (Snowdonia).

Also within close proximity is the Natural slate museum which has been recently added to the UNESCO world heritage list as one of the World heritage sites for the slate landscape of North Wales.

For those wanting an exhilarating adrenaline rush whilst admiring the panoramic views of a slate quarry and local coastline , why not take a ride on the nearby world’s fastest zip wire! The village of Llanrug is nearby and offers two pubs serving pub classics, or head into the bustling town of Caernarfon and sample a great range of restaurants and cafes, before visiting the historical Caernarfon Castle with its imposing stance over the Menai Straits to Anglesey.

The town is also home to the popular Beacon Climbing Centre, the Caernarfon Golf Club and the Lon Las Menai Path for those seeking a more leisurely activity. Take in the scenic splendor and activities of Wales during your stay at Yr Hen Oriel.

About the location

LLANRUG

Llanberis 2 miles; Caernarfon 4 miles; Betws-y-Coed 15 miles.

Llanrug is a small village with two pubs, two shops, a Post Office, a hotel with indoor swimming pool and fitness room, and a 9 hole golf course is nearby. The village is situated in the foothills of the Eryri (Snowdonia) Mountain Range, only 3 miles from famous Llanberis. Dominated by the grandeur of the Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon Massif), Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris, and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. Llanberis is something of a 'mecca' for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales. The ascent can be made either by train, on the Snowdonia Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Llanberis boasts excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 4 miles from Llanrug, on the coast, is Caernarfon with its magnificent 13th century castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn and Plas Newydd and many wonderful beaches.
