“Perfect cottage for two people (and one medium to large dog).”

What I liked: Well maintained - and clear that owners listen to feedback as ‘grips’ from other guests have been dealt with (e.g. there is now a large frying pan - something that was missing for a previous reviewer). Exceptional clean. Well equipped - liked that basics such as kitchen foil, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid were provided - and welcome tray was very much appreciated. High quality bedding and towels. Views of the bay and mountains in the distance from the large window. Good WiFi and excellent picture on small TV (with basic Sky package) - both a nice touch. Enough space to be more than comfortable, even in the bedroom which was bigger than it looked in the pictures. Secure garden ensuring that our dog could not get out (really important given the number of rabbits and new born lambs immediately outside the property). Fantastic walks / runs on your doorstep (two days we didn’t even use the car). Really nice dog friendly pub five minutes walk away. Super nice locals, including the local farmer who we had a chat with each time we saw him. What I didn’t like: Nothing really - no wardrobe or hangers (although we didn’t really need them and anyway, there wasn’t space for a wardrobe) and the kitchen could do with a garlic press, but that’s about all.

The property

The Cabbage Patch holiday cottage is a perfect little retreat, close to the wonderful bay at Rhoscolyn.

It is on the Coastal Footpath and only a short walk to the well known White Eagle gastro pub.

An idyllic little hideaway! "How could you not book a cottage called Cabbage Patch?

A great little cottage with lovely views across the bay of Rhoscolyn." For larger groups, Cabbage Patch is attached to Plas, which sleeps 10, and is across the road from Plas Bach, which sleeps a further 2.

It is easily integrated into the living space of Plas if required, but also has a separate entrance to provide a private and romantic getaway for two. Rhoscolyn is also the perfect base to enjoy a plethora of climbing and mountain adventures which can be provided by Gaia Adventures.

Gaia Adventures run inspiring outdoor experiences tailored to your group.

We love sharing our passion for spending time in wild places.

About the location

Valley 2 miles; Trearddur Bay 3 miles; Holyhead 5 miles.

Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse RSPB Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!
