“We had a lovely Christmas break at Capel Ogwen after the initial shock of having to clean mainly the kitchen but also the lounge.”
I had to remove all the crockery from the cupboards to clean inside (the cups and glasses were actually sticking to the surface because of the grease), the ovens were dirty and the top of the fridge had grease and dirt which had obviously been there for some time (the outside of the cupboards still need a good clean, especially the tops). The alcoves near the fire in the lounge were filthy from the open fire and the cushions on the settees were worn with zips broken and the settee arms were quite stained. I then found that one of the double mattresses had given up the ghost with a threadbare sheet on it with a hole in it and most of the towels were practically threadbare. The garage, which was supposed to be a games room, was just a mess with broken tiles piled in a corner, old furniture and appliances in there all filthy. Luckily Menai Cottages you saved the day obtaining a new mattress on Christmas Eve, my partner bought cushions, towels and throws for the settees from home and we got about enjoying our Christmas with family. I must say I expected the house to be a tad tired from the cost but I didn't expect it to be dirty. A lovely decorated Christmas tree was provided and fresh flowers in all the downstairs rooms which were a lovely touch. Also we were provided with lots of logs and coal for the fire. The location is superb and we all had a great Christmas but I was practically on the verge of going home on that initial day as I spent the first 2 hours just cleaning the kitchen!! Have attached photos - the fuzzy photo is the dirt and grease still on top of the kitchen units and the wipes are from cleaning the inside, the garage speaks for itself.
