“Disappointing to find no washing machine although listed, Asked to mop floor but no clean pop or bucket available.”

We knew that a family cottage was near the property we rented but the reality is greater than the description given. There are three 'family cottages' and if the family were using all three, privacy would be compromised. A few days in one of the family cottages was used by owners children and although we knew the cottages might be used the reality was disconcerting and made us feel a loss of privacy and isolation. We value privacy and isolation on our holiday and because this may or may not be available at Both Arian we would not stay there again.

Firstly, we would like to apologise to these guests for any perceived inconvenience for our family staying in the nearby Boathouse. Due to the Pandemic our grandsons planned travelling abroad had, for the 3rd time been cancelled. Unusually for this time of year, they asked to be allowed to use our family holiday house. We limited this to the Boathouse as it has completely separate accommodation in our 3-acre garden. The boys didn’t use the main lawn or any part of the garden fronting Borth Arian. Our understanding is that they kept noise levels to a minimum, were at all times polite and respectful and stayed only 4 days. The occasional possible use by family IS clearly mentioned in the particulars but once again we apologise to those guests- this has been an unusual and upsetting two summers! Property Owner

The property

It is hard to describe the character, charm, and happiness that oozes from Borth Arian - you simply must visit to see how lucky we are that the family share this much loved holiday cottage with us.

Set in a peaceful location near Rhoscolyn, on Holy Island, on the north west corner of Anglesey, it has fantastic views and is just yards from the coastal footpath and a five minute walk to the beach.

"I absolutely love this house!

It just opens its arms to welcome you all year round.

Sit and on the veranda and soak up the sea views.

In the winter snuggle up by the fire.

This is a house that is so loved and waits to welcome you." The accommodation is all on the ground floor and with full central heating will suit every generation in every season. Borth Arian was designed and built by Sir Leslie Patrick Abercrombie, best known for the re-planning of London after it was devastated by enemy bombardment in World War II.

You can read about Sir Abercrombie and this history of the house on our blog here. This is the perfect house for making special holiday memories that will never fade away.

About the location

Valley 2 miles; Trearddur Bay 3 miles; Holyhead 5 miles.

Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse RSPB Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!
