“Lovely cottage, ample parking, fantastic seaviews and a short walk to the beach.”
Very comfortable and well kept. The underfloor heating and log burner kept it beautifully warm during a couple of harsh winter days. The facilities amounted to eveething we could possibly need and there was even some tea, coffee and milk waiting for us on arrival. We had a lovely week at Copper Beach. Highly recommended.- Carl, October 2021
“Lovely cottage with character.”
Great views. Absolutely no issue with the wifi which other visitors had commented on being problematic. The only negative was driving out onto the main road as visibility was a bit of a challenge due to high walls and cars going quite fast. Possibly adding a mirror would be helpful, but didn't detract from the lovely stay we had.- Sandy, October 2021
“Missing rug on hard floor and permanent blinds causing darkness on patio doors was dissapointment, not like the picture.”
Several things could have been done better i.e broken blind in bathroom so dark, no toilet brush ,no proper bin in kitchen, very worn stair carpet, no complete vacuum to clean up with at the end of stay.Stained mattress, quilt and upstairs carpet.Enjoyed our weeks holiday but couldn't sit out with comfort as we couldn't find chair cushions which were supposed to be there.A lovely property ,would recommend once these things are put right.- Catherine, September 2021
“When I booked I sought reassurance about the wifi as this was crucial to our stay.”
However we had NO WIFI all week. The DVD player was missing a cable to the TV and did not have sound. We were asked to try and remedy this ourselves but we were unable to. The owner was pleasant enough but lives miles away, offered to get a Dongle but it was never going to arrive in time. Otherwise the property was pleasant enough and big enough for 3 people.- Lisa, August 2021
“Nice cottage in lovely spot.”
Views are spectacular. Only drawback was lack of wifi which was advertised.- Stephen, July 2021
“Nice cottage with comfortable and clean beds and clean overall apart from some cobwebs in various places.”
WiFi stopped working after a few days, we don't know why. 15 min walk to the beach, and lots of other lovely beaches to drive to (would recommend Harlech) great places to eat near by. We had a lovely stay.- Carla, July 2021
“Comfortable, home-from-home accommodation, equipped with everything you could need for a great holiday in a wonderful location.”
Many thanks too for the helpful and friendly service provided by the owner and Sykes when needed. Would love to return again! Ray & Jane, Greater Manchester- Ray, May 2021
“It’s a beautiful little cottage with high quality furniture and kitchen equipment.”
Very comfy beds and bedding and fabulous views! I think had it been colder, we would have struggled with heating the place. There are Just 2 areas that let it down and therefore, in my opinion, would not make it the rating standard that you advertise it as. 1. The carpet in the top bedroom is very poor, very dirty and missing in places. I have taken photos and will send them to you if requested. I think we should have been warned about this as it really put me off sleeping up there, together with damp coming through some of the wall. Perhaps there has been a water leak? It was quite a shock with the rest of the house being so well kept. 2. A tidy of the patio, borders and planters outside on the patio.- Wendy, April 2021
“This cottage is really not suitable for older people and people with back problems .”
The stairs to the top floor would be a nightmare for any one over the age of approx 65 .we didn't even go to the top floor because of this .also you definatley need a car because there is no close beaches or shops that you could walk to .- Mandy, April 2021
“A lovely property but very small don’t think it’s suitable for more than 2 adults.”
a very small patio up very steep steps but the views were great. Nice walk along the beach after you cross the railway line by the station. The railway was closed due to works along the line.We found the train useful to use last time we stayed in the area as it takes you along the coast up to Pwllheli. The property itself was lovely apart from no heating in the bathroom which was a shame. There were no instructions as to how to use the electrical items. A tumble drier would be good as there was no where to dry wet clothes or hang up wet coats.- Carole, October 2020
We are very glad you enjoyed your stay in the area, the railway should be running again for those lovely car free trips. The guest information pack has been updated and the heating sorted out, however due to the size constraints of the kitchen we did not think a tumbler dryer as essential as a washing machine, pegs have been purchased though! “The first night was Storm Alex & we woke to rain flowing through poorly fitting windows, soaking clothes left on the windowsill & wet carpet.”
The same happened with the lounge window & water was also leaking through the stone walls. There was nothing available to mop up wet floors. We messaged Jason, the name & number in the information book but received no response. We spoke to Susan at Sykes & she said we’d hear from Menai Holidays - no call was received. The photography of Copper Beach is very clever with regards to the lounge/kitchen area. It is very small & in our opinion would not comfortably fit more than 2 people. The details of the cottage state to bring your own bath towels, which we always do, but there were not any hand towels provided. The TV signal was very poor & would break up or go completely. We couldn’t stream using our fire stick due to the terrible broadband speed (0.3!) then found the DVD player doesn’t work. My husband wanted to do work on his laptop for an hour or so each morning but this was like watching paint dry. It was reminiscent of the ‘dial up’ days. The kitchen is very small & although we are aware the best was made of the space available, there was no microwave. This is important for a holiday home. There was nothing provided to clean up as we went along - vacuum cleaner/dustpan & brush - yet there is £100 ‘good housekeeping bond’. We did find the above on our last day! Under the stairs, behind one of the sofas. All kitchen appliances were switched off - you will only become aware of this if you read the information folder as soon as you arrive (who does that?). Luckily my husband noticed the fridge was off an hour after we’d filled it. Although this cottage is cosy, quaint & tastefully decorated, it is not up to standards in many other ways. Thank you Sykes for YOUR prompt call when we needed to speak to somebody.- Debbie, October 2020
We are so sorry you stayed during the first and one of worst winter storms and had to discover the maintenance issues brought to light by the storm. The contact details in the cottage have been updated and the lines of communications between Menai Holidays, the local agency and Sykes Cottages tightened. The other points you raised have been looked into and dealt with, thank you for bringing these to light and we hope you enjoy a stay at another Sykes Cottage in the future. Property Owner
“Lovely cottage , great views ,the only negative was it was on a very busy and noisy main road .”
But on the whole a lovely break and a gorgeous part of the country.- Barry, September 2020
“A beautiful clean and homely place situated right by the sea with beautiful scenery we would not hesitste to book again!”- Sally, September 2020
“We had no internet whatsoever, had to drive into Barmouth town centre to make a phone call, the heating wasn’t working properly, we came home after 3 days, because it was cold in there and it was the beginning of covid and imperative that we could stay in touch with our family because they was very worried that we was miles away.”- Lesley, March 2020
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay. We are sorry you cut your stay short but would like to reassure you that the problems with the heating and the internet have been rectified, should you consider staying again. Property Owner
“This cottage had no heating in bathroom or downstairs.”
The cottage was booked for Christmas, lack of heating ruined our Christmas and we left on Boxing day to return to our warm home. Before arriving we were assured that there would be adequate heating which is the only reason we agreed to continue with this cottage, which is a Welsh stone and freezing cold.- Beverley, December 2019
“Cottage was great, holiday wouldn’t have been the same had we stayed elsewhere.”
Was a great place to return to after a day exploring and is really well situated. Unfortunately the heating downstairs wasn’t working during our trip however these things happen and we got given access to additional wood for the burner which kept us warm so that wasn’t a problem. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.- Stephen, October 2019
“Gorgeous little cottage, in a fabulous location.”
Very clean. Immaculate. It was small, but we expected this. Which is fine. Not sure we'd visit with the four of us again, as we're a very tall family, but would come back just myself and my husband, because the location is stunning. Looking at the sea view when drinking my first cup of tea of the day in bed was just amazing. Only a couple of niggles, there was no room for a coffee machine I understand that, but maybe a cafetiere would have been great. And also our bed was extremely squeaky when turning over, not sure whether it was the mattress or the actual frame. Not the end of the world, but it woke me up every time my husband turned over. When we arrived there was a note to say the under floor heating wasn't working downstairs, they had left us some logs to light a fire for our duration, but there wasn't enough logs for more than one and half nights really, we had to buy more, as it was quite cold in the evening. And I have to say it was gorgeously cosy with the log burner lit, we probably wouldn't have used it if the heating downstairs had worked, so kind of a bonus haha. It was quite cold in the morning too. Also, cold in the bathroom with no heater. But I suppose if this property is more used in the summer then that's fine. Heaters in the bedrooms were great. Like I said the property was gorgeous, beautifully decorated inside and out. Very clean. Perfect location to visit Harlech and other areas. We would definitely return. Thank you.- Lorraine, October 2019
“This cottage has beautiful views and the sunsets were glorious.”
It is in an excellent position for visiting the Snowdonia area and coast and we took full advantage of that as well as the good local amenities. It was lovely to receive a welcome gift on arrival and to see in the cupboard there were treats and bowls for the dog.The renovation has been done well for a terraced cottage and the bedrooms were lovely. Space in the kitchen area was more limited. We did have a couple of issues, the main one being the underfloor heating which was not working. We contacted the owner who was unable to rectify it during our stay but was able to boost the bedroom radiator. (There was no heating in the lovely bathroom.) We had to buy more logs to use the log fire which was lovely when going but soon got cold as well as being messy. As underfloor heating is written in the cottage description and as it is getting nearer to winter, we would respectively suggest this needs fixing as a priority.(this is why for us the accuracy of the listing was not rated higher) We felt that there could be some minor improvements made and thus the experience and therefore holiday would be enhanced for future visitors - for example, there were no coat hooks/pegs downstairs, so nowhere to hang wet outer garments etc (we're talking North Wales and rain, although we were fortunate mostly). Instructions in the cottage handbook were limited which was a shame. Also, there was no blind or net for the kitchen/patio window and anyone walking down the lane or neighbours could see in, which could be an issue for some people. I think it would help in your description to indicate that all towels are needed not just bath and beach, ie hand/kitchen (a minor point) Having said all this we had a lovely holiday in a very beautiful area with lots to see and do.- Linda, October 2019
“We were really disappointed with this cottage as we could not stay here even just 1 night, in the description it only says steep stairs to the second floor it does not say steep stairs to the first floor as well, there was no way me or my husband could manage those stairs and he is quite fit also the bannister had 2 bolts in it where it must have previously broken which left it quite rickety.”
All in all we were very disappointed as we paid a lot of money for the week but ended up having to go home on the day we arrived- Tracey, August 2019
We are sorry you were disappointed with your choice of accommodation. We strive very hard to portray our properties and Copper Beach description and photographs do show the stairs and steps. We are always happy to discuss the cottages with guests to assist in making the right choice. Property Owner
“This House is a great little gem.”
Was a fantastic base for us to explore Barmouth & Harlech. The house is very comfy albeit a little compact downstairs. The quality of the furniture & decor was lovely & modern with underfloor heating downstairs & electric heaters in the bedrooms. The garden is a little cute garden. There are lots of places to walk around the house & we followed the road walking down through caravan park & over the railway to the beach which went for miles. My dog loved this beach & made some dog friends lol. The only negative to this house was the parking space outside the front of the house which was very tight for my BMW & I ended up being blocked in a few times by neighbours parking close behind me! I also ended up scratching & denting my lower front wing on the small brick wall by the steps! Some of the photos on the website did give the impression the beach was just across the road but in reality it’s several miles down a cliff side & it’s a church & houses across the road! I would still book this House again as it’s definitely a little Welsh Gem.- Sharron, August 2019
“After a last minute booking, we arrived to this small but beautifully presented cottage with extra touches like a welcome bottle of wine and Welsh cakes.”
The beds were comfy and everything you needed was thought of. We had great weather but can imagine in the winter it would be super cozy with the log burner going.- Jo, June 2019
