    “Slightly disappointing.”

The cottage looks a lot better on the advert than it is in real life! The whole cottage felt damp and musty however, it rained for most of our stay, which made it slightly worse. The cottage needs a really good clean from top to bottom - including the mold in the bathroom and in the bedrooms - as well as decorating throughout. Some new curtains, hung properly and sofa's in the living room would also be a good idea - there was just nowhere in the house that was comfortable. We didn't sleep in the ...

We didn't sleep in the front bedroom as the bed was uncomfortable and the curtains were not appropriate to need - letting in lots of light. The back bedroom was better, as it looked directly out onto the cliff face - and we mean 'directly'! Bit of a fire risk really, which isn't noted. Stairs are very steep, which is noted but people should be aware they are 'very steep', even if your mobility is good! Owner made contact with us on the morning of our journey to Pwellhi and advised they were there if we needed anything - rather difficult to advise the owner that the cottage was damp, musty and uncomfortable after 5 hours of travelling and shattered - as we didn't have anywhere else to go and felt we had to make the best of it. We had to wash all the crockery and cutlery before we used anything too, as there were food bits left in pans and on cutlery. We didn't bother using the washing machine and dryer, as we didn't feel it would be safe due to all the rain and water running down the back of the outhouse. On a positive note, the cottage was in a good position to enable us to discover the Llyn Peninsula and North Wales and we were out of the house most of the time. We cut our 7 night stay short by a couple of nights as we were cold and wet for the entire time and I ended up with a terrible chest infection. Sorry - this is the first time we have booked a Sykes cottage and we certainly will not be booking one again.

The property

Swn Y Mor is a well-positioned and characterful cottage in the lively market town of Pwllheli, Gwynedd.

The cottage welcomes four visitors and one well-behaved dog and is just steps from the beach and local facilities.

It features an open-plan living space, two big bedrooms, and a pet-friendly layout.

In the well-equipped kitchen, cater to your group's culinary needs before dining around the breakfast bar or settling into the elegant leather sofas, which are in front of the gas fire and TV; on cooler days, enjoy cinema nights bundled up with the fire alight.

Upstairs, have a refreshing shower before retiring to one of two beds; a double or a twin, both with attractive fixtures and plenty of storage.

When you're ready to explore your surroundings, head to Pwllheli, where you'll find a plethora of waterfront eateries, cafes, and stores; you'll be spoiled for choice, with Waterfront Bar and Restaurant and Caffi Sol being firm favourites.

Enjoy sunny strolls along Treath Glan-y-Don, which is only a short distance from Swn Y Mor or go on a nature-filled adventure by seeing St Cybi's Wells or trekking up one of Eryri's (Snowdonia's) many paths.

Caernarfon and Caeau Tan y Bwlch nature reserve, which boasts a traditional hay meadow and fields rich in wildflowers, is a short car journey away, surrounded by a sandy shore, perfect for a visit upon its resident marina.

Criccieth Castle, a native Welsh fortification positioned over Tremadog Bay, is another suggested attraction close to home, or whether you want to fish or simply take a leisurely stroll, Bron Eifion Fishing Lakes provides a stunning backdrop.

Alternatively, visit Portmeirion, which is lined with boutique shops, eateries, and family-friendly amusements, as well as a 70-acre sub-tropical garden that is especially lovely in the warmer months.

Swn Y Mor is a great place to stay if you're planning a trip to Gwynedd.
