“Clean spacious and very comfortable.”

Lovely beds and bedding/ towels plenty of pots, pans, cutlery and crockery and excellent kitchen. Good parking and super outdoor space with great views and amazing jet fly bys. Great base to visit local areas and to relax and unwind.

“Wow! What a house where to start.”

Fantastic views from the living room and garden decking. Everything worked to perfection. The heating was easy to work and efficient, lashings of hot water. Quiet and friendly neighbourhood. Sorry Roger we got checkout time wrong. The email from Sykes was correct we weren't!!

The place was spotless and had everything we could possibly need for the week, loved the welcome pack. The owners were very responsive to emails and any questions we had. It's a perfect location to explore Snowdonia and even on the wettest of days the views from the house were beautiful.

“Attractive property with amazing views of the countryside.”

Very comfortable, clean & spacious. Had great facilities from fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine & iron to a selection of books & games for those rainy days. Ideally located, it is a short walk to Dolgellau town centre & the Co-op supermarket, and around a 20/25 minute drive to Fairbourne & Barmouth where we enjoyed the sunny days. We also travelled to Harlech (45 mins) so my husband & father could play golf at Royal St David’s golf course. We went to Portmeirion on another day which was lovely, and well worth seeing albeit rather wet! We were not able to see all of it & do the walks because of the rain (cafes / restaurants / hotels were closed due to Covid) so we are keen to come back & catch it on a dry day. We did not eat out due to Covid & most places only having outside eating areas, so we made use of the excellent kitchen & its range oven to cook our evening meals. We had a lovely family holiday in a great property in an excellent location.

“A beautifully clean house in a gorgeous setting.”

Having Netflix etc was a lovely bonus and we were grateful for the generous Welcome basket. However for the price we paid we were very disappointed with the facilities compared to similarly priced Sykes cottages. . Only 2/8 spotlights worked in the kitchen which made cooking in the winter in a darkened room difficult. The hob light didn’t work either nor did several light switches around the property. The boiler timer did not work which made for a horribly uncomfortable first night when the boiler did not turn off and meant we had to wake to a cold house each morning after that. Even the toilet roll holders in two bathrooms wouldn’t stay up so the toilet rolls kept falling off. The kitchen blind kept falling off due to poor attachments and the badly fitted dishwasher door meant it wouldn’t open properly. There was a pungent smell that originated in the utility and developed in the upstairs bathroom too after a few days. One double bed made so much noise when you tried to turn over it disturbed the whole house so an adult in our party ended up squeezed into the child’s bunk bed. Not good enough for the price you charged us.

Dolgellau is a lovely little town with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. We also used the bus service ( free at weekends ) to go to nearby Barmouth. A very enjoyable break.

“We had a brilliant long weekend mountain biking.”

A perfect house for a group of friends to get together. The garage gave us ample bike and gear storage and the views from the garden were breathtaking. Great location and close to village life that had enough shops, restaurants and pubs to keep us very happy. Stone throw from Coed-Y-Brenin which was perfect. Would recommend and intend to go back.

“Roger, the owner, kindly contacted us to let us know the house was available earlier than anticipated.”

The house is well designed but the kitchen wasn't as equipped enough as one would expect for a large group of people. When we texted Roger with some obvious missing items, he delivered them very promptly. These were a large saucepan, a serving dish, and a colander. Essentially the kitchen was not really set up for people who like to cook and end the day relaxing over a meal they've cooked. We were slightly concerned about the toilet flushes, especially in the ensuite. Apart from that it's a lovely house, in a gorgeous area, with easy access to all this lovely part of Wales has to offer, inland and on the coast.

About the location

DOLGELLAU

Fairbourne 9.3 miles; Barmouth 10 miles; Aberdovey 23.2 miles.

This small, beautiful market town is located in the heart of southern Snowdonia, between the imposing Cader Idris mountain range and the sea. It’s a superb base for a holiday - perfect for combining the many outdoor pursuits on offer in Snowdonia with relaxing days out on the soft sandy beaches of Barmouth, Fairbourne and Aberdovey. The town itself offers a good selection of shops, five pubs and a wine bar, along with a number of excellent restaurants, cafes and two bakeries, that produce fresh bread and cakes each day. Dolgellau is home to over 200 listed buildings, allegedly the highest concentration in the whole of Wales, and the town is also a designated 'cycle break centre' boasting a range of dedicated cycle routes all around the area. Close by is the Coed y Brenin mountain bike trail and this location is ideal for quiet outdoor recreation with superb scenery, mountains, forests, waterfalls, castles and beaches all close to hand.
