We was disappointed by the owners and their housekeeper (who was obviously in charge). As the check-in and out times are not great we asked for a later check-out for personal reasons, the owner said they would ask the housekeeper, the housekeeper granted us an extra 45 minutes (this was appreciated), we thanked the owner and asked would they let us know if the cottage was ready earlier, their response was 'I wouldn't know if it is ready earlier'. We was disappointed by the owners and their housekeeper (who was obviously in charge). As the check-in and out times are not great we asked for a later check-out for personal reasons, the owner said they would ask the housekeeper, the housekeeper granted us an extra 45 minutes (this was appreciated), we thanked the owner and asked would they let us know if the cottage was ready earlier, their response was 'I wouldn't know if it is ready earlier'. We know for a fact that the housekeeper was finished by 12:30 hours on the day of our arrival therefore they was quite happy to leave the cottage empty for 4 and a half hours before the check-in time of 5PM, anywhere else we have stayed have quite happily contacted us to let us know the property is ready. We could not find the dishwasher tablets and other supplies (1 bin bag, 3 toilet rolls between 6 people for 2 days) were extremely limited so I messaged the owner to ask where the tablets where and if we could possibly have more supplies, again they had to ask their housekeeper who replied with a list of what is supplied and a gentle reminder that this is self catering and not fully inclusive.
We paid £250.00 per night, had to take your own towels and strip the beds, with very limited supplies, these things did not bother us so much however the lack of customer service would stop us from going there again. When we left the cottage at 09:45 it probably would have took the housekeeper approx. 2 to 3 hours to make the beds, hoover, mop and dust and wipe around which would have allowed the next visitors to be in there early afternoon, no doubt like us they would not have received a message from the owner to say they could check-in.
The owner needs to take back some control from the housekeeper and add a bit more personal touches and flexibility to what is a gorgeous place to stay. I am in no doubt that this is probably not that important to the owners as the location etc probably means they are not short of bookings.
