  • “Just returned home from a very enjoyable week staying at Plas Mor, Borth y Gest.”

We found the property to be very spacious, warm, cosy and comfortable with amazing sea and mountain views we never tired of, whatever the weather. The house is like a tardis, and much more spacious than it looks from the front roadside picture. The property was well equipped with quality items, which we appreciated - the owners had thought of everything even an apron for the cook!! It was exceptionally clean and tidy on arrival. We were visited by three lots of friends during our stay, two who relocated from the Midlands to Wales many years ago, and two friends who stayed with us for a few days. Without exception, during our conversations the same word kept cropping up 'homely'. That sums up Plas Mor - HOME FROM HOME by the sea. Looking through the visitors book, we could see lots of returning visitors - one family had visited 10 times. We cannot recommend this property highly enough, and hope to return sometime.

The property

Situated right on Borth y Gest's beautiful harbour, Plas Mor is an idyllic house with breathtaking views across the estuary to Cnicht, the mountain known as the Welsh Matterhorn.

In renovating this cottage, the owners have gone to great lengths to ensure that it meets their own requirements for a holiday home, and they have chosen high quality furnishings to complement the spacious and airy interior. The entrance hall has plenty of space for coats and boots. With a pretty bay window and original stripped floorboards, the lovely open plan sitting room is a blend of old and new.The deep, comfy sofas make this a great place for relaxing. The window in the well equipped kitchen gives fantastic views across the bay, there is a gas hob, double oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave. There is a dining area with dining table and chairs, there is even a birdwatcher's telescope for you to enjoy the views and watch the wildlife. There is a downstairs loo with a superb view! Upstairs are two bedrooms, the first is a double room furnished in a chic New England style to complement its view across the bay. This room has an en-suite shower room with loo, wash basin and a little window overlooking the sea.The second bedroom is a large twin-bedded room.

There is a large luxury bathroom with walk-in shower and old fashioned fittings, a loo, wash basin and double-ended roll-top bath. The small garden is adjacent to the harbour, it is a lovely place to sit and relax. There is no allocated parking but there is a car park nearby. "This bright and cosy cottage sits on the harbour at Borth y Gest and enjoys the most breathtaking views across the estuary.

Beautifully furnished, spacious and airy - an idyllic retreat!" We expect the visitor book to fill up with great comments!

About the location

Borth y Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth y Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits? For a day out you can take a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Steam Railway and Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, only a 15 minutes' walk away, or for those with younger children why not visit the shorter but more child-focussed Welsh Highland Heritage Railway? For a day trip the entire Llyn Peninsula calls. With Anglesey within reach and the whole North Wales coast with the Wales Coast Path to be explored, Borth y Gest has it all: a quiet bolt hole but conveniently located for ease of access to this stunning area, a must at any time of the year.
