“We stayed here in 2023 and decided to come back .”

On that trip I told the manager (lovely lady that the chimney needed sweeping as smoky was coming in to the lounge . I was so looking forward to a proper log fire only to find a silly air fan heater which come winter will cost loads to use Everything else was as it should’ve been a thoughtful peaceful relaxing week we might come back if you sought out the fire …..

“Nice touch for owners leaving milk and bread in fridge.”

Would have been better if there had have been more space outside for dogs. However week spent in accommodation was thoroughly enjoyable for family holiday. Would recommend that book table at local pub as is very popular.

Was very well equipped. Couple of discrepancies on the listing as the open fire was actual electric and parking was for 2 vehicles not 3. Saying this this had little effect on a really nice time with friends. Would certainly stay there again.

The property was spacious well kept and we had everything needed. It was very peaceful beautiful surroundings. It was a lovely location - handy for visiting the surrounding area. We would happily stay there on another occasion. Just a thought for your caretaker Alison. We met her a couple of times as she was preparing other properties on the site. She was very friendly and checked with us that everything was satisfactory. Thank you for a lovely stay.

“Such a beautiful property and we had a wonderful stay.”

The Dairy is immaculately clean and well presented with a well appointed kitchen and all you need us provided. we received fantastic support during our stay with quick responses to our queries. This property provides a fantastic layout for anyone who has mobility limitations, the wet room, one level living, level outside decking and access ramp into the property are ideal. It is situated in a rural setting and has beautiful views. It is easily accessible to a variety of walks and a great local pub which serves tasty food in a cosy setting. I would recommend some small maintenance upgrades regarding the outside decking and new toilet seats. Overall we had a great family stay, comfy and enjoyable over the Christmas and new year period. I would recommend this property.

“Nice location with a fair amount of space.”

The double bedroom with the shower felt damp and the bathroom smelled of mould. The kitchen cupboards also smelled musty. The heating system in the twin bed room gave off a distinct oily odour. I think the whole interior could do with being refurbished but the sources of damp needs to be tackled first. I also think a place for bike storage would be appreciated.

“Lovely place will come back.”

Had no hot water but was dealt with quickly by the cleaner. Then had no heating but yet again dealt with as promptly as able to. Beautiful setting looking out to the sheep made even better as it was lambing time ! Also very friendly chatty farmer. The Grouse Inn made us very welcome, can’t wait to come back in another season

The cottage is lovely and well equipped, everything you would expect from a rural conversion. I would suggest the open fire needs looking at as it doesn't work well, smoke not drawing away correctly. All in all a great place and thanks for a lovely week.

Lovely big kitchen diner which easily seats 8. Nice big sitting room with open fire and 3 big settees. High ceilings and old world charm throughout. 2 big double bedrooms with ensuites. 3rd double smaller with family bathroom close by. Would come back.

“Really enjoyed our stay, nice to sit out the back and watch the animals in the farmer's field.”

Lovely quiet position in the countryside away from main roads. Nice and spacious inside with all expected amenities. Towels and sheets were clean and fresh. Few cobwebs in the rooms but it is a big old barn conversion so this is to be expected. We also found the boiler in twin room to be noisy at night so had to turn it off. TV was quite complicated to work but instructions were provided. Thank you to the property manager for excellent communication throughout and sorting us with a new kettle straight away when the other one broke. Would stay here again.

“Having booked the two adjoining cottages and the house facing for a shared family holiday with 7 adults, 6 children and a dog, this worked perfectly.”

Plenty of space, comfortable seating, crockery and cutlery for everybody, allowing flexibility throughout the whole holiday. The bedroom with the adjoining walk in shower was perfect for our elderly relative. The cottage ws lovely and warm in a beautiful setting. Would just add The Grouse pub in Carrog was worth a visit and is properly dog frendly, inside and out.

“The cottage itself was lovely - we were very happy with everything about it except for a couple of small problems.”

When we first arrived there was a strong smell of creosote (the fence outside had obviously just been coated). The twin bedroom where the boiler was situated had a strong smell of diesel oil and my husband had to shut off the boiler when we went to bed as the noise meant we couldn't sleep - it is really loud. The information booklet for visitors stated there was coal for the fire but there was none. However we used the central heating so this was a small issue. Apart from that, we all loved the place and were sorry to leave.

“Not happy that we were shouted at by a farmer as children had gone to play in the field right next to the property - no signs and no information in the pack at the house - this involved our children and the children next door who were shaken up by this, as was I.”

Not a good start to the holiday. He did come back to apologise later but it was not a pleasant experience. There was also a bull that came into the field the next day so this could have been and even worse situation - again no signage!! Also the people using the garden opposite, that we were meant to be a ble to share, did not realise that it was a shared garden. The information from Sykes says there is also a patio and chairs to use in the shared garden but on speaking to the property manager this was not the case and it was just the garden we could use ( we did have our own on a small decking area at our place but not sure we would have booked if we had known as we would have preferred to have had use of patio next to an enclosed garden as we are a family with a dog ). Again some lack of clear communication here all round. We felt like we needed to justify ourselves and creep down a path whenever we went to use the garden beacuse of the other people staying there. As the place is dog friendly all of these things need to be made clear at the property as you expect not to have to ask if the dog can use the field when necessary. Welcome pack was very sparse - small loaf of bread and some milk and a left over egg which the dog had - journey had taken us over 6 hours. I appreciate there are booking costs but whem you factor in we have paid over £1500 for the property and an insurance policy of about £65 this seems very mean. Wifi was terrible at peak times and we were unable to access anything good to watch on TV - very limited range of satellite TV. That said overall we had a very pleasant stay and the property was excellent as extremely spacious with two wings of the house and bathrooms for other family members and clean with good facilities, hot water etc....so peaceful for winding down and I would recommend the property to others as good location for walking holiday with Corwen and Llangolllen nearby for eating out. It was just let down by the points I have mentioned wich I am sure can be put right.

“This dog friendly cottage was perfect for our New Years break.”

The location was great, on the outskirts of a small village with dog friendly pub with great food and fantastic walks. The cottage was clean, tidy, very spacious and had everything we needed, even to cook a New Year roast dinner, although the cooker really does need a deep clean. The only downside was the signal is very poor inside and the WIFI didn’t work very well at all. This is not usually a problem but with it being New Year, we wanted to be able to contact friends and family! A great place that I would certainly recommend to others.

“The wifi was not working when we arrived & was reported.”

It was fixed after a few days. My main issue is that we had our 2 dogs with us; i was expecting a private garden area as it was described as having a garden/patio. It was quite scary to have to go outside with them with a torch late at night or early hours of the morning to do their business. Maybe you could give a more accurate description of outside facilities. Otherwise it was a cosy warm cottage in a great spot for exploring north wales.

My son is disabled and in a wheelchair and the cottage was very easy for him, especially the wet room. It was also great for my 2 year old granddaughter with it all being on one level. The location of the property is ideal for touring north wales. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property.

“We had an enjoyable stay at The Dairy and enjoyed the area.”

There were just a few issues however. One of the double bedrooms was very small, OK technically, you could fit a double bed in it but there was little space to walk around the bed. The thermostat on the radiator in the small bedroom was broken off. We lit an open fire with the logs and coal provided but the fire smoked into the room and we had to open the patio doors to clear it. I would think the chimney would need sweeping. Other than the above, the property was well maintained, had everything we needed and had a cosy feel. The above items didn't spoil our time at the Dairy but the smallness of one of the bedrooms maybe should be highlighted in your advertisement.

“Having stayed here some years ago before our family group got too large and the charities acquired the properties we felt The Dairy needed a bit more of the TLC the original owners used to give it and the other cottages.”

The extractor fan in the double ensuite didn't work and as there were no windows the room steamed up whenever the shower was used. Did mention this to the caretaker on 2nd or 3rd day but despite the acknowledgment the extractor was still not working on our departure. The bath towels are of poor quality and not big enough. Bath sheets add that little extra comfort! The rear patio wooden furniture was in need of a good sanding down and re-varnishing or oiling and the front patio iron table was likewise in need of stripping down an repainted. There were not enough outside chairs front or back for all six of us to sit out so we had to resort to carrying out dining chairs. Despite the niggles we enjoyed our return and will almost certainly be coming back.

The property

The Dairy is a good size stone-built barn conversion situated next to two other cottages down a private lane in North Wales.

The cottage may be suitable for accompanied wheelchair users as it is set all on the ground floor and features three bedrooms, two of which have an en-suite with one of them fully-equipped for the less mobile.

The kitchen has high ceilings with exposed beams and has everything you need to prepare home-cooked dinners.

An atmospheric sitting room boasts a warming open fire and features French doors which on to a decked area with views over the fields where you can sit and enjoy the countryside views.

Carrog Mill Cottages

These three holiday homes are situated in a peaceful location on the edge of the North Wales village of Carrog, in between the popular towns of Corwen and Llangollen. The properties are made up of a detached farmhouse and two barn conversions, which individually or together, can offer families and groups of friends an excellent base for discovering this wonderful part of the country. The cottages are situated down a private lane but are just a few minutes’ walk from the village of Carrog which is home to a friendly pub serving good food where you can sit and dine whilst overlooking the River Dee and the beautiful rolling hills across the valley. The village is also home to a station on the Llangollen Heritage Steam Railway line, so why not step back in time and pop on a steam train to Llangollen, home to a white-water rafting centre, an annual Eisteddfod and the World Heritage Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Alternatively, head to Corwen, a lovely market town with a good selection of shops and pubs. Drive past Corwen to the Rhug Estate and its fabulous organic farm shop and restaurant, or head deeper into Wales to discover Bala Lake, Betws-y-Coed and the whole of the Snowdonia National Park. These comfortable cottages will provide a holiday that will live long in the memory.

CARROG

Corwen 3 miles; Llangollen 8 miles; Bala 14 miles.

Carrog is a very pretty village set on the banks of the River Dee which is home to a local pub that serves food, as well the Carrog Bridge which was built in 1660. It is a quaint picturesque village in the county of Denbighshire and is surrounded by the Berwyn Mountain range offering spectacular views. The Carrog steam railway station is part of the Llangollen Railway which runs from Corwen to Llangollen. Corwen is immersed in history and heritage; learn about Owain Glyndwr, the self-proclaimed Prince of Wales, explore beautiful Rug Chapel and Langar Church, or climb through the heather to one of the most important Iron Age hill forts, Caer Drewyn, built around 800 BC. Take a horse-drawn canal boat from Llangollen and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pontcysyllte, Britain’s largest aqueduct. Visit the National Trust properties of Chirk Castle and Erdigg, explore the atmospheric ruins of Cistercian Valle Crucis Abbey and Castell Dinas Brân.
