“Really lovely old cottage.”

We felt very much at home, as though we were staying at a friends. The games room was superb and the highlight of the evenings for us after exploring the gorgeous area. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

Beautiful area. Plenty of kitchen equipment and loads of extra games/DVD’s to make use of in the evenings or on rainy days! Loved it there.

We felt it was very welcoming and couldn't fault it. Ideal for kids and dog! Our Grandchildren especially enjoyed the Games Room on the top floor and we had a lot of fun! The Pool Table went down especially well!

The back door is operated by both a yale lock and two dead bolts - the keys to all of this are there so I am sorry you did not find them. I am afraid bulbs do blow occasionally and there are replacements located in the draws in the dresser and porch, I will certainly change any remaining ones out. The windows whilst double glazed have unfortunately leaked in the seals in places and so can fog in the autumn no matter how much they are cleaned. We have investigated exchanging specific panes but those specifications are no longer possible. In time we will replace the glazing but that is a big project. The general cleanliness I will investigate, I am surprised as we usually get good ratings for this, but it is an old historic property with beams and flag floors so clean is absolutely to be expected whilst highly polished modern surfaces are not. So glad you loved the games room. Update: Oct 2023 the property now has new windows - so lovely clear views. Property Owner

“We really enjoyed staying in this cottage it was like a home from home with everying we needed.”

The games room was fantastic loads of things to do for everyone board games, books, dvd's, playstation, pool, TV as well as being very comfortable. The kitchen was very well provisioned, loved the warming draw and the very large dining table. Just one very small negative note was the ouside of the cupboards felt sticky and the doors on the bottom ones were a little dirty which I felt I needed to clean. The welcome gift of tea, milk and cake was greatly appreciated as was the provision of condiments and other bits and bobs left for our use. The beds were super comfortable and the bathroom facilities were good. The location was great it felt nice and rural but wasn't to far away from anything. Great location for travelling to many different places we left feeling we still had so much to see. Also if you wanted a takeaway most tastes were catered for in the nearby village. We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

“Yr Hel Felin is a lovely property full of character in a quiet little village but close to bigger villages/towns.”

We went during a week of 30+ degree heat and because of the huge thick walls the property was lovely and cool! A nice welcome back was waiting including milk, biscuits and some lovely lemon cakes as well as the tea, coffee, etc in the cupboard. The property also has excellent WiFi throughout which we weren't expecting given its remote nature. Inside the property it's full of original features which make it fascinating. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you could need, good quality pans, trays, roasting tins, cutlery, cups, etc and a good sound system on the ground floor kitchen/dining area. The beds are super comfy with good quality mattresses and good sized bedrooms. The top floor is where the cottage earns it's extra stars! Electric piano, a guitar, a pool table (even a supply of chalk for the queues) and a good sized TV with an outstanding sound system. Many a game of pool were enjoyed (undefeated, just leave that here so it's immortalised) and a film or two at night. The property also comes with loads of board games, jigsaws, DVDs, blue rays, cds and books. Everything you could wish for! Outside the garden pleasantly surprised us with the size. It's not really one you could have a game of football in but the kids loved running up the stairs, over the top, and down the sloped path. Plus, the top of the garden is lovely and shaded by the trees, with excellent views. The picnic table on the patio is a nice touch and allows you to have a nice meal or drink whilst watching the cows! A children's playground, with a full size football net is about a 5 minute walk away, and a couple of minutes further down the road is The Grouse Inn (award winning pub) and probably the best bit, the River. We spent time in the River, swimming and playing, virtually every day, kids absolutely loved it (and me!). Corwen (6 minute drive) has a well stocked Nisa supermarket and plenty of take aways. Llangollen is a 16 minute drive which has plenty of shops, river activities, horse drawn canal boats and the all important Oggies and Ice Cream! Worth a visit to the stunning aqueduct too!! Loved this place, the area, the locals and will definitely be back in the future.

The cupboard does have some useful other sauces, but also a fair few things well out of date (was tempted to throw but not my place) The property has much of its original features which make it different from the norm, and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you could need, pans, trays, tins, cutlery, cups, etc. The downstairs show door broke on our 5th day (which was reported and no doubt fixed now) but it didnt stop our stay anyway. The beds are well comfy with good quality mattresses and good sized bedrooms, whilst the top floor is has a lounge area piano, a guitar, a pool table and a good sized TV, alongside loads of board games, jigsaws, DVDs, blue rays, cds and books, great stock. Outside the garden patio is nice with excellent views and steps leading to a top garden part which is really nice to sit down and admire the view. My only negative, which is no fault of the owner, would be the road from the property to Corwen (excellent chippie), very narrow and extremely unkept with regard to craters (pot holes) which actually damaged my low suspensioned car. Llangollen is near also and has plenty of shops, nice little town and gorgeous idyllic views whilst you drive, just wow! Whilst Landudno is a must for the seaside, an hour away but well worth it, my new favourite seaside resort.

“Lovely interesting property.”

Only ‘negatives’ were, it was very dark on the ground floor (probably lovely and cool when it’s hot weather though because of the thickness of the walls), to relax in the tv/games room (a wonderful room) means carrying cups of tea etc up and down two flights of stairs all the time and the third child’s bedroom/bunk beds is very small (we didn’t need this but note if you do - it is a room for sleeping only, no play room for kids at all!!) BUT - there were a LOT of positives - interesting, plenty of room, comfortable, really well stocked/equipped with all the general bits and bobs for cooking/cleaning etc. plus lots more, lovely situation, nice and quiet, great for dogs being hard floors with rugs on every level, (though we had to be really careful on the stairs as being wood they were very slippery for our two - so we had them on a lead up and down stairs every time), garden not dog secure but nice outlook and had the weather been warm we would have sat out at the table to the rear. Tip - if you have dogs and take them out last thing, you’ll need a torch as it’s pitch black outside (and yes, there is a torch in one of the drawers - well equipped again), although we took our own. We will be back in the area within 2 months and would have stayed here again but we need a Saturday to Saturday booking for this next visit which unfortunately would be an astronomical cost for this place as we would be charged for two full weeks as it’s only let Friday to Friday - a bit of flexibility and reasonable pricing would be helpful here!

Our two boys loved the games room and were always at the pool table or instruments. We didn't have as many rainy days as expected, but when we were stuck indoors it felt just like home. We'd definitely recommend it.

In view of the understandable warnings regarding local farmers'attitudes to dogs it would have been really useful to have had a properly fenced garden so that our dog could have been allowed out. The cottage was a bit dusty but that didn't really bother us - all part of the charm of this very old mill.

“The location of this cottage is fantastic as a base for days out or just some quiet days in.”

On entering we were concerned as the entrance, dining and kitchen area seemed darker and smaller than listed but this was very short lived as we turned the lights on and explored the first and second floors. The room on the second floor is bright, spacious and very relaxing. The cottage is very well equipped in both the kitchen and entertainment facilities meaning you’re good to start chilling out with just the basics in hand. If we were going back to the area we would come back to this cottage.

“My daughter and I, plus my sister and her daughter, enjoyed a week in this beautifully restored old mill.”

It’s well equipped and although we’d taken supplies with us, it was nice to find tea, coffee, etc. there. Also some milk and welsh cakes in the fridge for us. I had chosen this cottage especially as it has a proper games room, with a pool table. It’s a big room with large television, a large selection of dvds for adults and children as well as board games, Lego and musical instruments, great, we loved it.. This is on the third floor, 2 flights of stairs, a lovely big room with some of the original mill fittings. Although the cottage sleeps 6, one bedroom is small and has sort of bunk beds which are more suitable for one adult or 2 children. The games room has 2 very big settees though, if there was a problem with sleeping arrangements. As others have said, The Grouse Inn serves very good food and is only a 10-15 minute walk away, lovely views.

“This cottage was brilliant for us,grandparents, parents and two small boys ( 8 and 5) We grownups were very happy with the accommodation, it has every thing we wanted, but was not a 'showhouse' it was so comfortable to relax in, exactly right.”

The boys had a wonderful time without much adult intervention so a win win situation. The main living room on the third floor was a revelation, the views are magnificent, there are enough toys, books, dvd's to keep everybody happy, but the show stopper! Two guitars, electronic drums and a piano/ organ plus a huge pool/ snooker table. We have discovered a grandson has musical talent, I am sure our ears will recover. I cannot think of anything negative about the cottage. We all had a brilliant time

“Yr Helin Felin is on the edge of the village of Carrog and is unique in that it is a converted mill.”

The third floor would be a delight for anyone especially with children, or for a rainy day, with a pool table, TV, good sound system and plenty of musical instruments to occupy them. Beds and rooms were comfortable although the third bedroom with bunk beds is somewhat cramped. The second bathroom is downstairs and convenient for when you are sitting downstairs but a little inconvenient if you wanted to use it as a bathroom for a second couple. We (4 adults) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and it enabled us to explore the surroundings from the Pontyscliffe Aquaduct, Llangollen, north to Llandudno and Conwy, and also to the west to Snowdonia. Can highly recommend the local pub The Grouse Inn for a good meal and great atmosphere especially at weekends.

The property

This is a converted old mill last working in the 1940’s, on the edge of the village of Carrog in North Wales, between the towns of Corwen and Llangollen.

This is a beautiful cottage with many original features including exposed stone walls and original character beams as well as original slate flagged floors.

Set in a great position to explore this wonderful part of the country, Yr Hen Felin is a great place for families or groups of friends.

Entering through the stable door takes you into a hallway with space for hanging coats and storing boots.

This then leads you through to the open plan living area with a good-sized dining table and seating area.

The kitchen is well-equipped, with everything needed for some good home-cooked food, with a shower room leading off this for extra flexibility.

Upstairs are three spacious bedrooms with a family bathroom also, all with exposed beams and quirky little windows.

Further up, on the second floor, is a large games room with everything needed to keep the kids or adults alike occupied.

There is a pool table and a piano as well as a 55” television to enjoy, or just relax on the comfy sofas looking out to the views of the countryside.

The cottage is just a few minutes’ walk from the village of Carrog which is home to a friendly pub serving good food where you can sit and dine whilst overlooking the River Dee and the beautiful rolling hills across the valley.

The village is also home to a station on the Llangollen Heritage Steam Railway line, so why not step back in time and pop on a steam train to Llangollen, home to a white-water rafting and canoeing centre, an annual Eisteddfod and the World Heritage Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

Alternatively, head to Corwen, a lovely market town with a good selection of shops and pubs.

Drive past Corwen to the Rhug Estate and its fabulous organic farm shop and restaurant, or head deeper into Wales to discover Bala Lake, Betws-y-Coed and the whole of the Snowdonia National Park.

This is a superb holiday cottage in an excellent location for the outdoor adventurer and is also the perfect destination for those simply seeking a unique, luxury holiday in the heart of North Wales.

Carrog is a very pretty village set on the banks of the River Dee which is home to a local pub that serves food, as well the Carrog Bridge which was built in 1660. It is a quaint picturesque village in the county of Denbighshire and is surrounded by the Berwyn Mountain range offering spectacular views. The Carrog steam railway station is part of the Llangollen Railway which runs from Corwen to Llangollen. Corwen is immersed in history and heritage; learn about Owain Glyndwr, the self-proclaimed Prince of Wales, explore beautiful Rug Chapel and Langar Church, or climb through the heather to one of the most important Iron Age hill forts, Caer Drewyn, built around 800 BC. Take a horse-drawn canal boat from Llangollen and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pontcysyllte, Britain’s largest aqueduct. Visit the National Trust properties of Chirk Castle and Erdigg, explore the atmospheric ruins of Cistercian Valle Crucis Abbey and Castell Dinas Brân.
