“The accommodation was excellent.”

Modern, tastefully decorated and maintained to a high standard Clean, very well equipped. We were looking for an out of the ordinary, quirky place to stay which we wanted with spectacular views to the coast. This certainly met our aspirations. Nicky provided with a basic started pack of groceries which after a 2hr drive from home was welcome. He also provided a comprehensive description of where to find the Chapel and key safe. There are plenty of walks in the national park and towns and ...

“Brilliant communication with owner and very accurate directions took us straight to our destination.”

The photobook at the property gave us a good idea of how this building was transformed - We'd love to know if the layout was planned or did the building itself make some of the decisions. A really relaxing break - We were able to walk to the coastal path in around 15 minutes or drive to a nearby quiet beach where even on Bank Holiday Monday there were only 7 of us ! You can hear the main road but as we were out during the day, it was naturally quieter in the evening when we were sitting out enjoying a drink and the exceptionally warm weather. The complimentary extras were a lovely thoughtful touch. The wifi was very slow so had to tether to my phone to facetime the grandchildren and make a few TEAMS calls for work. Underfloor heating was very welcome in the shower room in the early mornings (we always sleep with the blinds open so were up and about by 6.30am when it was cooler outside) Our eldest grandchild would LOVE the circular bedroom window but at almost six, we might struggle to entertain her at the property, but would not hesitate to book again as a couple. We have an SUV type vehicle and there was plenty of parking and turning space. The pub in Llanbedrog ( Glyn Y Weddw Arms) was closed while we were there but would highly recommend The Ship (opens at 12.30pm) and the nearby Spar where we bought some locally caught dressed crabs. All in all, a lovely property and a really enjoyable holiday.

“My partner, young son and I had a wonderful week staying at Eglwys St Cynfi close to Pwllheli.”

Although the weather wasn't the best, the church was nicely equipped and comfortable for our 7 nights there. Future bookers should be aware that the church is close to a pretty busy A road and as such, the swish of cars when outside the property is quite noticeable. However, once inside the property road noise is virtually non-existent, no doubt in part, to the thick stone walls. The only other 'issue' we had is that we found it difficult to regulate the underfloor heating and get the electric fan fire to constantly pump out the warm air facility. It must just me being a bit thick - even though I did read the instructions left for us by the owners/manual. But I am being cherlish. As I said, this was a lovely stay in a beautiful, historic little church. Thank you so much Nicky and Alex, for having us.

Very centrally placed for exploring the area and handy for Abersoch and Phwelli for shops and pubs. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. The only problem we encountered was the tv wasn't working, not a big deal though and didn't affect our stay.

“The church is beautiful and in a very private spot.”

The conversion has been done very sympathetically to the structure of the building and it is very light and airy inside. It is very well equipped in both the kitchen and with bathroom and bed linen. Just a couple of issues. The remote control for the TV does not work and is held together with sellotape - this needs sorting out. There need to be more instructions for the heating system. It was difficult to find the on/off switches and there does not appear to be one at all for the main bedroom. Also, the heating control for the kitchen/living room was not working. It was only a little chilly so the wall heater in the living room was sufficient, but in the winter this will be a problem.

“Excellent venue.”

Clean, modern and quiet. Great and supportive hosts. We booked this last minute and found it to be a real gem. Took 2 teenagers with us and they loved it. Access to beach was not as difficult as we had originally thought. 40 minute walk this way takes you into Pwllheli. Only downside - TV and internet hit or miss. One bathroom (but we managed). We will definitely stay again.

“The property is lovely and is stocked with everything you’re likely to need for your stay, except an electric fan to cool you down !”

We had a very warm week so can’t vouch for the heating but had to have all the windows and entrance door open to get a draught blowing through. The shower, bed, kitchen equipment was all superb - the only slight downside for me was the last 50 yards of the approach to the car parking space. We have a Mercedes A180 which is very low so grounds out on the gravel / ruts so we had to ‘straddle’ the track to stop this happening.

“We loved it and found the property to be equipped to a high standard.”

The location is SUPERB and local amenities and the coastal path are all within an easy drive or walk. Pwllheli, for supermarkets, Aberdaron for wild scenery and Porth Oer (great beach and decent cafe) all close. National Trust members benefit from free parking at many locations. Plas Glyn y Weddw in Llanbedrog with a walk up the hill is not to be missed. Stunning views to Snowdon and Cader Idris on a good day. There are so many places to see, so many beaches where, off the beaten track, you can have the beach to yourself almost. Fell in love with Pen Lleyn all over again.

“Our stay at Eglwys St Cynfil was wonderful and relaxing.”

An incredibly peaceful place to stay and unwind You could hear a pin drop in the evenings. The church is light, bright, airy and wonderfully decorated with plenty of character with exposed beams. Lovely and clean, stocked with Fresh linen and fluffy towels. Our girls, 13 & 15yrs, were not looking forward to sharing a bedroom with each other however, spent every night laughing and giggling until they fell asleep and said they had “the best time “! The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals and outside a bbq with huge table and bench seating. So many rabbits! which were very entertaining. We really liked The history of the church and the very old headstones. The renovation photo album was also interesting to see. Thank you both for a wonderful place to stay. Tim, Debbie, Lucy & Chloe

“Lovely place to stay.”

Beds and bedding lovely, comfortable and clean. Would love to return. Just a couple of niggles, the kitchen was not very clean, the cooker hood was greasy and the bread bin hadn’t been cleaned out. There were a lot of cobwebs and spiders throughout the building although I realise that it is an old stone building. The internet was poor as was the TV reception, you couldn’t watch much of a programme before it started to pixelate. We absolutely loved all the wild rabbits though. Would recommend this cottage.

The conversion is amazing and very comfortable. We particularly enjoyed watching the rabbits and checking out the gravestones. The only downside from my perspective is that I am a light sleeper so I was disturbed by car headlights on the road, I solved this by draping a blanket over the balcony. It is not practical to do anything about this due to the open-plan nature of the interior, but I thought it worth mentioning as my solution could be shared with other visitors who experience the problem.

“Wonderful Chapel Cottage.”

Location,location,location made our stay so perfect. Inside the owners certainly considered the history of the chapel, yet managed to bring a modern mix with the old. Very clean in every detail. Wild life looking through the spotless windows was a joy, even seeing a white rabbit amongst the usual grey ones. Nothing was in short supply inside with plenty of utensils in the kitchen. The lounge was comfortable to relax in. Bath room downstairs was spotless. Upstairs again perfect. The main bedroom overlooking the downstairs lounge was clever, giving an air of space and contentment. Just off the small landing is located the second bedroom, smaller, but with a porthole window which we imagine used to have a clock and now put to excellent use. So although the gravestones in the gardens greet you, let this not question you about your stay here. You will miss a wonderful chance to stay in a perfect cottage.

“I was very slightly disappointed by how dusty the church was.”

The TVand DVD player had weeks of dust on it with fingerprints in the dust, the corners of the rooms were dusty with lots of cobwebs, and the fridge was very dirty with remnants of food, dried on spilt milk and a pungent smell. After a deep clean of the fridge, a dust around and the corners of the room swept the church was perfect. Half hour of my time to make it a wonderful place to stay. It was very homely and comfortable with all mod cons. The bed was very comfortable but could do with blinds on the windows as the light woke me around 4.30 every morning. There were quite a few rabbits which was cute to see every day. I loved the place. Enjoyed my stay and would definitely go back despite being visited by something in the cupboard next to the washing machine eating away at my food. Lol A welcomed break in a quirky place made it a brilliant get away which was thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you

) The positives out weigh any negatives, I would say small observations from regular cottage holidayers and not negatives, the chapel itself is at a high standards and the neighbours are certainly quiet. The only things that I would mention are the chapel although very well equipped for all just seemed to lack that personal welcomming touch, Hot Water was at a premium to start with but we worked that one out and the overgrown gateways made it difficult with our cars. All in all a great holiday experience, thank you

The owner was very helpful with the directions as it is a little tucked away which adds to its charm. When you enter the church for the first time we were amazed by its design and style. We actually couldn't believe our good fortune and I didn't want to leave. The church is very well equipped, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The furnishings are of a very high quality and the whole place is comfortable and welcoming.

The property

Pwllheli 2 miles.

A beautifully-converted stone-built detached church, dating back over 200 years, in the quiet hamlet of Penrhos just 2 miles from the popular seaside town of Pwllheli.

This Grade II listed church has been sympathetically restored to provide modern, open plan living whilst maintaining the ambience and character of this historic building.

Notable features of this Pwllheli cottage include a double-height beamed ceiling above the sitting area, superb mullioned church windows and many of the original fittings and furnishings of the chapel itself including the pulpit and lectern.

Upstairs, you will find a modern mezzanine master bedroom, with glass balustrade overlooking the sitting area, and Velux windows with views towards the sea in the distance.

This Pwllheli cottage is surrounded by an acre of grounds which include an historic graveyard, complete with ancient headstones, plus guests also have the use of a large field to the side of the cottage, with sitting area and ample space for playing games or stretching your legs.

Abersoch 10 miles; Criccieth 5 miles.

This busy market town is the unofficial capital of the Llyn Peninsula which is one of the most scenic regions of Wales, renowned for its outstanding scenery, stunning coastal walks, excellent beaches and golf courses. This traditional seaside town offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants and an impressive marina holding 400 boats. The town boasts two beaches, one with the Blue Flag Award and is renowned for its sailing and watersports. Close by are Criccieth, with its medieval castle, and popular Abersoch, a pretty harbour town also renowned for its wonderful beaches and watersports facilities. Much of the peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a lot of the coastline is owned by the National Trust providing many remote bays, sandy beaches and exciting clifftop walks, as well as wildlife havens like Bardsey Island.
