Beddgelert is a stunning village in Snowdonia, lying at the confluence of rivers Colwyn and Glaslyn. With its pretty stone cottages and double arched bridge, it is a destination for visitors all year round.
Gelert's Grave is a popular attraction. Gelert, the hunting dog which belonged to Prince Llewelyn. He was left to guard Llewelyn's baby and when Llewelyn returned to find the baby's cot empty he immediately assumed that Gelert had killed him. In turn, he killed his dog only to find his baby safe and a wolf slain by Gelert beside it. According to legend, the stone monument in the field marks Gelert's resting place.
There are many walks from the village along the rivers, Llyn Gwynant and up to Dinas Emrys, the site of an iron age hillfort and the legendary tale of the meeting of the warlord Vortigern and Merlin. There are some cracking mountain biking trails in Beddgelert Forest and you can hire your wheels from Beddgelert Bikes. Sygun Copper Mines is also close by and worth a visit.
