Go Below® Challenges are for those looking for an adrenaline rush and certainly provide plenty of variety. No experience is needed. Guides will lead the way they’ll help you safely traverse this underground landscape!
From the base located at the Festiniog Railway Tanygrisiau Station, you can take on the challenge of the next level of underground adventures which take place in one of the biggest and deepest slate mines in the world. With 50 miles of tunnels and a thousand caverns, this place is the perfect playground for adrenaline seekers!
The first trip that we offer is our Go Below Challenge trip and this takes around 5 hours. This trip is perfect if you’re looking for something physical, challenging and fun. It features a 20 minute hike up through stunning scenery to the mine entrance, boating across a vibrant turquoise underground lake, a zip line over another deep pool of water, climbing, abseiling, traversing rock faces, ascending a waterfall and scaling an air shaft. This is Go Below’s inclusive trip which is ideal for groups of varying fitness and ability. This trip is for ages 10 and over (accompanied by a responsible adult) and is priced at £49 per person.
The second trip is the Hero Xtreme and it is approximately 6 hours and is great for those wanting to push themselves that bit further. This trip has you climbing via ferrata ladders and traversing on a larger scale, and a head for heights is required. On the Hero Xtreme you are challenged with narrow ledges, old decaying bridges and some larger zip lines, taking you down to the lowest accessible point in the UK, 1,300ft under solid rock. If you’re looking to feel exposed to the elements, the Hero Xtreme offers the chance to have lunch with a view on the world’s first cliff-face-suspended Xtreme Picnic Bench, peering across a colossal chamber. This trip is for ages 14 and over accompanied by a responsible adult) and is priced at £79 per person.
The third trip that they offer is the 7 hour Ultimate Xtreme adventure. This is our most adrenaline-inducing trip, featuring up to 9 zip lines including Goliath, the world’s longest and deepest underground zip ride. Not only can you fly across Goliath, you can also have a go on the world's first and only underground freefall, jumping off a ledge 70ft into the abyss! You will also climb, abseil and traverse as well as cross rickety bridges, steel pins and old planks of wood. This trip is certainly not for the feint hearted! For this trip It is £89 per person and aged 18 and over only.

Wellies provided, but you can wear your own as long as they have grip and keep you dry up to calf height water!
