Galeri, Caernarfon, Snowdonia, North Wales
A great day for all the family. Galeri Caernarfon has a cinema, art space and offers seasonal programs so there is something for everyone to enjoy at any time of the year. The gallery is host to regular live theatre productions and music concerts, singing, dance and drama lessons, art taster sessions, varied annual events and more. Both entertaining and educational, a visit to the Galeri will not disappoint!
On the Victoria Dock, the Galeri overlooks the Menai Straits and has become the ‘go-to’ location for events and performances, both professional and amateur. It is a large venue in the heart of the fascinating historic town that is Caernarfon. Whether you want to watch one of the latest films released, explore the art exhibitions, test your skills in the workshops or venue hire, you can do it all here. You can also stop at the cafe and meet the friendly staff before or after doing some sightseeing in the local area, as the best parts of Caernarfon are all within easy walking distance.
The Galeri creative enterprise officially opened in April 2005 by a company called Galeri Caernarfon Cyf operating as a development trust since 1992. The company has worked long and hard to improve Caernarfon by purchasing derelict buildings within the walled town including shops, offices and housing to release and enhance the cultural, economic and environmental potential of the local community through creative projects. The Galeri creative enterprise is one of their largest projects and has been extremely successful in its aim to showcase local talents and to develop arts and creative industries in North Wales.
Galeri Caernarfon now runs a theatre and cinema, 24 business and work units, an art space, 2 large rehearsal studios and 2 fairly smaller ones, a meeting room, a cafe bar and a mighty impressive 400-500 annual events! Galeri Caernarfon also has an art program which includes a wide range of art forms such as music, photography, dance, literature, theatre, film, exhibitions and short courses that anyone can give a go! They are all lead by professional, qualified and personable teachers. One of the most popular programs is Sbarc Galeri which provides classes in performance during the term time; drama and rock school for children and young people! These lessons include singing, drums, electric guitar and bass as well as script writing and dance! This is a fantastic opportunity to get the little ones interested in wonderful hobbies and to improve their talents. Who knows? They may be the next Bryn Terfel just waiting to be discovered, or may become the next Katherine Jenkins over the holidays!
If you want to leave the lessons behind in school and have a learning-free experience over summer, you can always come to visit when they are hosting events; Comedians, choirs, light shows at Caernarfon castle and so much more for you to enjoy while in North Wales.
