West Coast Surf Shop, Abersoch, Llŷn Peninsula

A surf shop first and foremost, West Coast Surf has been on Abersoch high street since the early 1990’s. They have also been providing surf lessons since 1996 and remain the best on the Peninsula. They also hire wetsuits and surfboards to over 18’s.

With International Surfing Association-accredited coaches you’ll be in excellent hands when in the water. Helping beginners become more competent, and with options for longer sessions for the more advanced surfer Hells Mouth Surf School is a great option! Perfect for enjoying the golden sands of Abersoch beach and beyond!

A fully insured and regulated surf school, it runs from April to November, providing tuition mainly on weekends. Members of the RNLI/BSA Safe Hire Scheme, West Coast Surf Shop certainly place an emphasis on staying safe in the water. With safety pages on their website and a code of conduct telling of the dangers of rip currents among other safety information, you’ll be fully prepared for your lesson and time in the water.

Opening Times

The surf school runs from April to November

Winter Opening: 10.00am until 4.30pm (Except Sunday: 11.00 - 4.00pm and CLOSED on Wednesday.)

Summer Opening: 10.00am until 5.00pm every day except Wednesday, when we are closed except during school holidays, and Sunday 11.00 - 5.00.

Can you hire equipment?

Under certain conditions, hire is not available - so if you are travelling - please check with us first to see whether we are likely to be hiring on a particular day.

To hire surfboards you must be able to swim 50m in open water, be over 18 years of age and have an understanding of rip currents. Read the safety pages on the website before hiring.

The surf school runs from April to November. We teach mostly at weekends but every day through the school holidays. Mid week lessons can be arranged at any time with three or more people.
