Anne Smith Glass Designs, Pwllheli, Llŷn Peninsula
To see creative talent at its best you must take some time to visit Anne Smith Glass Designs on the Llŷn Peninsula. The studio in Rhiw, near Pwllheli market town, hides inside some beautiful handcrafted glass creations which are truly remarkable. Whether you want to buy a holiday memoir, or simply watch Anne do what she does best, you can do it here.
For an afternoon of entertainment you can take part in one of Anne’s workshops covering the basics of glass designs. She will show you how she has made some of her finest work, and let you have a go too! At Anne Smith Glass Designs you can discover the techniques involved in creating award winning fused, flame-worked, cast and stained glass products such as decorative ornaments, jewellery, art sculptures and more.
Not your average gallery - this studio has a display of Anne Smith’s work to view and purchase along with the interactive workshops in her workspace so you can see if you have got what it takes to become a glasswork designer! The processes involved in her work require precise skill, attention to detail and patience, but don’t let this put you off! These processes are fun and unique for a ‘one of a kind’ experience, and her workshops are suitable for first-timers whether adult or child.
Fused glass is fired (heat-processed) in a kiln so that several separate pieces of glass can be joined together, which enables her to combine interesting colours, patterns and textures for impressive designs. For stained glass products, she uses fusing, painting and sandblasting for detail and depth within the design. With these processes, she has been able to create outstanding seaside themed ornaments, personalised key chains, bowls and dishes, coasters and been able to transfer images onto thick pieces of glass for extra special free-standing frames to showcase your fondest memories!
In addition to her own collection, Anne Smith does a range of commissions working to the clients’ brief. Why not treat yourself to one of her superb creations with your own specifications? Better yet, make yourself one in her workshop to show off at home.
