“Contacts in case of difficulty never answered their phones.”

Nor did they respond to messages left requesting a call back. It was only after calling Sykes, who we think spoke to the owner that they called us. They did then resolve the problem promptly.

The property

This stunning Victorian semi-detached villa, known as Bryn Ogwen, can be found on the outskirts of Bangor, Gwynedd.

Bryn Ogwen has an official Visit Wales 5 Star Grading (awarded summer 2022).

It is a wonderful home for a family or group of 10 wishing to add a touch of luxury to their next getaway, with its breath-taking views of the Grade II-listed Garth Pier and the flowing waters of the Menai Straits, reaching out towards Puffin Island and the Great Orme.

There is space for three cars in the driveway, and there's a beautiful front garden where you can enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the unrivalled vistas.

There is a contemporary and fully-equipped kitchen, and you can look forward to enjoying your culinary creations at the dining table for ten, which features bay windows offering superb views of the waters below.

After a day of sightseeing, retire to the sitting area for some rest and relaxation on the plush sofas in front of the wood-burning stove, as your favourite show plays out on the Smart TV.

Three of the home's wonderfully designed bedrooms can be found on the first floor, including a super-king-size with an en-suite shower room and a super-king-size and double with access to a lovely Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

On the second floor, there are two more bedrooms: a king-size and a super-king-size with zip/link.

Stop by the Antelope Inn and Ty Golchi for a delicious lunch, the convenience store for any necessities, or a stroll around the Treborth Botanical Garden and the Eithinog North Wales Wildlife Trust with your loved ones.

In addition to the famous Clwb Golff St Deiniol, the town is home to the beautiful National Trust site of Penrhyn Castle & Garden, an ancient roman camp.

The Menai Heritage Museum, the Belgian Promenade, Green Olive, Hydeout Bar, and neighbouring Pili Palas Nature World and Plas Cadnant Gardens are all within easy walking distance of the Menai Suspension Bridge.

Continue to Beaumaris, where you may visit a spectacular castle (the Beaumaris Gaol) or take a sea safari to Puffin Island.

Caernarfon, with its castle listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and Snowdonia National Park, home to the iconic Snowdon, are both a bit further afield.

Add a touch of grandeur to your North Wales escape with a stay at Bryn Ogwen.

Note: Stag, Hen or similar parties are not permitted.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £450.

About the location

BANGOR

Menai Bridge 2.5 miles; Beaumaris 7 miles; Caernarfon 10 miles; Llanberis 11 miles.

Bangor is a university town on the North Wales coast with a large range of shops, bars and restaurants. It is the main crossing point for the Isle of Anglesey with two road bridges across the Menai Strait. Across the water, the castle and pier at Beaumaris make a lovely day out, or you can catch a boat to enjoy a trip out to Puffin Island. The Anglesey Coastal Path takes in beautiful scenery, and the island is home to many fine beaches including Rhosneigr, Trearddur Bay and Red Wharf Bay. The NT mansion Plas Newydd is on the island, while on the mainland further NT properties can be found including Penrhyn Castle and Bodnant Gardens. The spectacular mountains and lakes of Snowdonia are just a short drive way, with plenty of castles, beaches and other attractions on offer in this wonderful region. Bangor and the Menai Straits really do offer the best of both worlds!
