Visitors to our Criccieth holiday cottages love its old-fashioned seaside charm, beautiful sandy bay, excellent ice cream and pretty little high street shops. Criccieth, found on the Llyn Peninsula, is often described as the “Pearl of Wales on the Shores of Snowdonia”.
Why Criccieth?
Criccieth Castle, built by Llywelyn the Great – Prince of Gwynedd and Ruler of Wales – really steals the towns show. Sitting high on a rocky headland looking out to Tremadog Bay on one side and the town’s rooftops on the other. The castle is an important part of the story of Wales: fifty years after it was built by Llywelyn, it was annexed by the English monarch Edwards I.
The popular seaside resort is great for families. The Dwyfor Ranch Rabbit Farm and Animal Farm is a great day out for children with the chance to get up close and personal with a host of animals including guinea pigs, puppies, donkeys and even alpacas.
Make sure you pay a visit to the Cadwaladers Ice Cream. From humble beginnings by a local Criccieth family in 1927, it is now hailed by locals as the ‘home of Welsh ice cream.
Criccieth is the ideal base for a Snowdonia holiday. Situated just 8 miles from the National Park, make sure you pack your walking boots and take great advantage of the beautiful surroundings.
