A stay in our Porthmadog accommodation will ensure you are perfectly situated to explore the mighty mountains of Snowdonia and the picturesque coastlines of the Llyn Peninsula. Porthmadog is steeped in interesting history and beautiful scenery, ready to take your breath away.
Why Porthmadog Accommodation?
The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog, known locally as “Port” is one of the largest towns in Snowdonia National Park. Porthmadog was originally developed as a famous port, exporting the slate produced at both Ffestiniog and Llanfrothen quarries.
Porthmadog is a major hub, with three train lines; The Ffestiniog Railway, The Welsh Highland Railway and the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway. The Ffestiniog Railway is the oldest narrow-gauge railway in the world, still operating three original locomotives to this day, all of which are over 150 years old. The 13 mile trip from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog takes you on a fantastic journey through deep forests and tranquil lakes as you climb 700ft up into the mountains of Snowdonia.
A stay in one of our Porthmadog cottages will give you ample opportunity to explore the town's great selection of cafes, restaurants and shops. Visit the Purple Moose Brewery or enjoy a unique experience at Black Rock Llama Centre.
Places to Visit near Porthmadog
Our Porthmadog holiday cottages are the perfect base to explore both Snowdonia National Park and the Llyn Peninsula. Plus, the picturesque island of Anglesey, with its stunning beaches and rugged coastline, is well worth a visit.
The magical village of Portmeirion is just a ten minute drive away. The Italian style village, designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis is home to an ornamental garden and many colourful Riveria inspired houses and is a great day out for all the family. For those looking to delve into the history of Wales, then head to Criccieth Castle, a spectacular coastal castle with breathtaking views, or visit Caernarfon Castle, one of the greatest monuments of the Middle Ages. The fascinating Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog are also worth the visit.
During your stay in one of our Porthmadog cottages, make sure you have time to explore one of the many stunning beaches of the Llyn Peninsula including Porth Ceiriad, Porth Iago and Aberdaron Beach. There are some exceptionally beautiful sandy beaches close by at Criccieth and Harlech where the views of Snowdonia are mesmerising.
