    “I booked for a 3 night 'cosy retreat' with the anticipation of great walking in the area.”

    The house was glacially cold when I arrived - this has also been noted by previous users. Even when on 24/7, the heating was inadequate to heat the cottage to a comfortable level in mid March. The lounge was especially cold as the heater is so small and tucked in a corner. This means that the wood burner is a necessity, not just a nicety. However, only enough logs for one night were provided.The bathroom was so cold and uninviting that I could not even face having a shower. I wasn't informed ...

I wasn't informed about the sulphurous smelling tap water before arrival. I would have brought a supply of drinking water if I had known it was going to smell. As many have said - the location is stunning. Absolutely delightful - however, compared to many rural cottages I have stayed in, this one is really in need of an update, a thorough clean and new bed linen. I have shared my comments with the owner (by email) already, along with a few other comments regarding maintenance.

    Thank you Paula for bringing to my attention all of the issues that need addressing at Penybont, I will of course do my best to rectify these issues as soon as possible, as for the heating, unfortunately my cleaning staff had forgotten to turn the heating on after changeover from previous guests, however, they could have been forgiven in as much as they have notification on all guests arrival, and would have noted that the next guests were not due in for almost two weeks, the very detailed welcome pack information sheet gives guests most if not all information needed including sulphurous smell that depending on the time of year can sometimes be present in the water, this is due to the supply coming from a bore and not in anyway harmful, I am very sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Penybont, kind regards, Richard. A traditional stone-built detached cottage resting on the banks of the River Dovey, with a backdrop of wooded hills and mountains on the edge of the village of Mallwyd, in the beautiful Dovey Valley, Pen y Bont is an ideal hideaway for a family looking to explore the countryside of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.

Featured in an online article by The Sun, this very special Mallwyd cottage is described as 'the ultimate escape' and provides stunning views of the River Dovey from both of the homely double and twin bedrooms, as well as from a wrap-around decked area outside, ideal for a tipple in the sunshine.

The property has been lovingly renovated, retaining many of its original features throughout the kitchen/diner and sitting area alongside contemporary fixtures, including its exposed beams and an impressive inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove and an original bread oven, helping to create a warm and romantic atmosphere throughout the cottage.

If you feel like spending an evening out, there is an excellent pub just a short walk away, The Brigands Inn, as well as a local shop for your essentials.

Mallwyd is the perfect location for climbers, walkers, mountain bikers, fishermen and birdwatchers, surrounded by the wonderful facilities of the Eryri National Park as well as the magnificent coastline and sandy beaches of the nearby Cardigan Bay and Llyn Peninsula.

For something different visit Zip World or one of the other adrenaline adventure sites which the Eryri National Park has to offer, and there is also the option to hike, try out watersports and wild swim in one of the many stunning lakes.

Dolgellau and Machynlleth both offer a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants, ideal for a hearty meal out, while Aberdovey and Barmouth are both very popular seaside resorts.

Pen y Bont is a truely charming Mallwyd cottage in a truly lovely riverside location, where if you are very lucky you may capture the Salmon leap the waterfall.
