“WOW! Tyn Llwyn did not disappoint, if you like old, once derelict buildings in a beautiful remote setting guarded by very polite sheep (they kindly move out of the way when you approach), this is a winner.”

The long road up to the property is a single lane track and is fun to drive up, you think you are going up into the woods, I loved it. Then you come to the house which the owners have done an amazing job with lovingly restoring it in keeping with the original features of the property. From walking through the old red front door you think you have stepped back in time, beautiful slate floor throughout the ground floor, through to the very well equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher and big kitchen table with the centrepiece, a gorgeous AGA cooker. There is a utility area with washing machine and dryer and a downstairs toilet. Two wood burning stoves keep the property nice and warm with plenty of wood to use included. Upstairs, the original staircase leading to the bedrooms and bathrooms all with stunning old wooden floors, modern period bathrooms with a decent sized shower and really hot water. The main bedroom has skylights where you can lie and watch the stars at night and there are plenty of hangers and storage. There are radiators upstairs too. Outside there is a garden at the back with a gate leading to some lovely walks, a great place to take in the stunning scenery and to watch the stars and listen to the owls at night. We have loved our stay here with our border collie and will definitely return.

The crumbling Cymer Abbey, a 12th century romantic ruin, and St Illtyd’s Church, thought to be one of the oldest in Wales, stand testament to the village’s past. There are plenty of pretty walks in the area with Llanelltyd Bridge, an ancient attractive footbridge crossing the shallows of the River Mawddach, offering the chance to settle on the shingled riverside in view of the nearby mountains.
