“We stayed at this cottage recently and there are a few positives, but unfortunately quite a number of negatives too.”

On the plus side, the location is very good. It’s about a five-minute walk into Aberdaron which is really convenient, and the views from the conservatory are lovely. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of plates, cutlery and other essentials, which made self-catering easy. However, the overall condition of the cottage was disappointing. At first glance it seemed reasonably clean, but once we settled in it became clear that it hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly ...

At first glance it seemed reasonably clean, but once we settled in it became clear that it hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly for some time. There were cobwebs throughout the property and numerous dead insects underneath the conservatory furniture, it didn’t appear to have been properly cleaned in a while. The cottage itself is looking very tired and in need of maintenance. Some of the cushions were ripped, there were stains on the furniture and carpets, and the bathroom sink had a large crack in it. The conservatory also had several leaks, which was concerning during the wet weather. The washing machine was also leaking. Outside areas could also do with attention. The shed used for the bins had rubbish piled high inside, which wasn’t very pleasant and smelt bad. The listing mentions that the property sleeps eight, but in reality there aren’t enough bathrooms to comfortably accommodate that many people. The outdoor shower didn't work and the outdoor toilet was dirty and not somewhere we would have felt comfortable using. Finally, if you’re travelling with dogs, be aware that the garden is not secure, despite what some might expect for a dog-friendly property. One of the most frustrating things is that, after reading previous reviews going back several years, many of these issues have already been mentioned by other guests. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like much has been done to address them, which gives the impression that the property is not being properly maintained or improved. It’s a real shame because the location is great and the cottage could be lovely with some care and attention, but at the moment it feels neglected and not good value for money.
