The property

Ideally placed in a prime position for unbeatable views in Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey is this Grade II-listed Georgian cottage, Tros Yr Afon.

With period features, a choice of two gardens, and thoughtfully designed with families in mind, this cottage makes a fantastic base from which to explore this scenic region of North Wales.

Arriving at the cottage, you are greeted with off-road parking and exceptional views of both sea and mountains.

Drop off your bags and make a cup of tea before taking a moment to admire the landscape; the front garden is manicured and ideal for alfresco meals with an unrivalled backdrop.

Heading to the rear of the property, a wilder garden with apple trees to pick apples from provides a charming place for the children to play while you get some shade on sunnier days.

Inside, a charming playroom continues the fun indoors, with a range of age-appropriate toys, which are kindly swapped out by the owners between guests, and a Smart TV to keep the little ones entertained.

From here, the character continues through to the kitchen/diner where the chef of the group may rustle up a home-cooked meal for the family to enjoy at the dining table for six.

Climb the traditional wooden staircase next and settle down in front of the coal fire; the sitting room is ideally placed on the first floor to make the most of the far-reaching mountain and sea views, the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon after returning from a leisurely stroll.

As your eyes grow tired, head to the bedrooms for some well-earned rest; a twin for the children of your group lies on the first floor, along with a bright and airy king-size which again takes advantage of its position, allowing you to enjoy waking up to seascape and rugged mountaintops.

Back on the ground floor, the last bedroom, a super-king-size, lets in plenty of light through the French doors, another idyllic awakening to the Menai Strait for the lucky guests in this room!

Explore the local area and stock up on the essentials at the local shops, boutiques and bakeries.

Set off on foot to find the delights of Beaumaris such as the iconic Beaumaris Castle and historic pier.

Penmon Point offers the ultimate view of Penmon Lighthouse and the adorable Puffin Island, passing through the ruins of a priory and fuel up at The Pilot House Cafe.

Further afield, the coastline of Anglesey stretches for miles and offers a selection of watersports, with beaches and outcrops dotted along; why not explore by bike or car and branch a little further afield?

A bike tour by Green Lane Bike Tours is the most perfect day out.

Heading back over to the mainland, an abundance of outdoor activities can be found in the Snowdonia National Park, a picture-perfect setting for your adventures.

Whether you want to stay in and enjoy family time or head out and explore the stunning Isle of Anglesey, Tros Yr Afon is the ideal base.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

BEAUMARIS

Menai Bridge 4 miles.

Beaumaris is a well known historic town on the Isle of Anglesey situated on the Menai Strait and overlooking the Snowdonia mountain range, making for the most stunning of sunrises. With its medieval castle (now a World Heritage site) dating back to the reign of Edward I and its Victorian pier, gaol and courthouse, it is also known as a major centre for yachting. Beaumaris is rich in history and retains much of its medieval street pattern. It’s setting, diversity of architectural styles and periods, differing scale, open spaces, varying roofs and overall quality contribute greatly to the town’s character. There is a good selection of shops, restaurants and public houses, as well as fishing opportunities and boat trips in the town, plus a golf course nearby. Along the coast is a large bay called Red Wharf Bay; its Welsh name is Traeth Coch (Red Beach) and the area is renowned for its glorious sunsets. The bay is very shallow and at low tide, almost 25 square kilometres (10 sq. mi.) of sand is uncovered providing safe bathing, perfect for wonderful family fun, fishing and miles of stunning scenic walks. Further afield is the port of Holyhead, which has regular ferry links to Dublin. Beaumaris is a good central base for touring Wales, in a beautiful location on the south coast of the picturesque Isle of Anglesey, within easy reach of the spectacular mountains of Snowdonia.

Please note there are low doorways and ceilings in some areas of the property and there are two steps down to the playroom/downstairs shower room and to the utility area so those with mobility issues might need to be careful
