“After a not too long in miles but nevertheless tedious trip down from Wigan due to accidents on M6 and A55 we were disappointed to find our cottage was still being cleaned after the check in time of 4 pm .”

Due to us being there the cleaning lady , very nice lady as she was must of felt pressured as she hurried up to get out of our way and a number of cobwebs etc were missed and we sorted it ourselves. The reason for the cottage still being cleaned after 4pm was one of her earlier appointments had a power cut and had made her late. The cottage is nice and comfy, well equipped the beds are comfy and warm. The use of borrowed light in the shower cubicle from the rear bedroom is clever and ...

The use of borrowed light in the shower cubicle from the rear bedroom is clever and effective.the exterior doors and windows are probably Original and therefore a little draughty but add to the character of the cottage.parking is all by luck as spaces are at a premium and of high demand but we always managed it whilst we were there. One point to mention is we figured that cottages higher up the row have right of access through number 5's garden to take bins out on bin day as there are gates in the garden to next door and a passage way down the side of number 5 to the road. All these points made we had an enjoyable stay and would return.

“5 The Crescent is a nice comfortable cottage to stay in as a base to explore the Snowdonia region.”

Entry to the property is via the back door directly into the kitchen area. The kitchen/diner is large and well fitted out with plenty of room preparing meals or planning the days activities. It would appear that the kitchen is recently fitted and is good and modern with all equipment expected, although the siting of the microwave is a little high. The Table area is large with room for four to eat or as a space for activities. A suggestion for improvement may be to fit hooks for coats etc, or a separate area for wet gear or boots. The lounge is basic with two good sofas, a coffee table and large television. Upstairs the main double bedroom is very big and roomy but lacks storage for clothing and other items. The main double bed was good and comfortable with side cupboards on each side. The bathroom is a good size and like the rest of the cottage is well fitted out and modern, with a shower and small bath. The heating and hot water are good, however as the front and back doors are very basic, and the windows are old fashioned Crittall style, so perhaps during colder months they may present a draft risk. Whilst it is accepted that it may be due to building restrictions placed on the owner, some solution should be investigated for the future. Also, the main back door only locks via a simple key with a much lower level of security than is normal. The back garden is rough and untidy, and rather overlooked by high trees or bushes, but has a decent patio and seating area for dining outside if desired, and is enough to provide a small exercise area for dogs in the morning. I do wonder if this cottage is a new letting because some of the attributes we have encountered in other cottages were not apparent here. On arrival the cottage seemed bland and unwelcoming, which after a long journey is disappointing. Although not mandatory, there was no information pack (or welcome pack) and it was only after three days that I realised Sykes had sent one via a link on the key information page. This information pack was not much use. In other properties there has been information on operating the equipment in the house, local information including such things as nearest supermarkets or utilities etc. and emergency information such as hospitals or vets, as well as information on local pubs or restaurants to help the visitor to the area. Many cottages also leave local tourist information leaflets or guides but none were apparent here, despite many empty drawers in the kitchen.

We switched to this digital format after Covid so that guests always have the most accurate and up-to-date details at their fingertips. Your suggestion about adding hooks in the kitchen is a great idea — thank you! We’ll be adding these on our next visit to make things a little more convenient for future guests. We were sorry to hear that the cottage felt a little sparse to you — many guests tell us they love the balance we’ve aimed for. The cottage is intentionally well-furnished but kept clean and uncluttered so that there’s plenty of room for guests to relax and make the space their own during their stay. As the cottage is Grade II listed, we’re not able to change the original doors or windows, but we’ve fitted thick curtains and an efficient central heating system to keep things cosy year-round. “Basic kitchen equipment lacking: need a potato peeler, tongs, pizza cutter, prosecco glasses, egg cups, salt, pepper, vinegar and cooking oil.”

Not enough loo roll provided (only 2) for a 9 night stay, more towels needed, umbrella for garden furniture, waste food bags and caddy needed, smoke alarms for upstairs please. Freezer compartment is unusable, please install separate freezer in placement of, or next to the vacuum cupboard or where microwave is now and put microwave on surface next to kettle.

Regarding your other points: • The cottage is fully wired with smoke and heat detecting sensors • Regarding the freezer, our fridge includes an icebox compartment that's perfectly sized for holiday essentials like ice cream and frozen items. We've found this works well for most guests who tend to eat out frequently and shop daily during their holidays, rather than requiring extensive frozen storage. When we refitted the kitchen, we made the conscious decision to opt for this more sustainable approach - larger freezers are energy-intensive appliances that would remain largely empty for most bookings, making them environmentally inefficient. Our current setup strikes the right balance between guest convenience and environmental responsibility. “We had a great week at 5 The Crescent.”

The property is exactly as advertised and quite easy to find following the directions provided. The on road parking was fine and we always got a space. The location was perfect for us. Such a peaceful little village. The only noise we heard was from the builders who are renovating the pub, but that wasn't intrusive! (Shame the pub was closed still, as we would have definitely visited!). We visited Caernarfon, Llandudno, Anglesey (twice!), Abersoch and Criccieth during our stay. All within easy reach. The house itself is very well presented, clean and cosy and we had everything we needed. Just be careful when going upstairs as the top stair is slightly higher than the others and the landing is narrow. Once you get used to it, it is fine, just caught me out on a couple of occasions. The house is really nicely decorated and comfortable. The original features are still retained (we were grateful for the cool stone walls in the 30° heatwave!), but with modern touches such as the lovely kitchen and bathroom and the thick, plush carpets throughout. We were very lucky with the weather and made the most of the garden. There is a lovely seating area as well as a handy washing line and lawned area. The grass was mown while we were there so it really did look neat. There did seem to be a huge amount of wasps. I'm not sure if that is normal for the area or if there is a nest somewhere?? The only things I was missing was some tongs for the kitchen and a lamp/light over the dressing table in the main bedroom. It wasn't a deal breaker, we could improvise kitchen tools and I used the lamp out of the smaller bedroom as a dressing table light. There are lots of well placed plug points throughout the property which we found useful. The only other improvement (and I am being picky now!!), would be a better extractor fan in the bathroom. It is not very powerful and as the bathroom is internal, with no opening windows, it could be better. However, this is a really minor thing and didn't spoil our holiday. All in all, we had a fabulous week. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful break but still with access to the bigger towns and seaside resorts. We would definitely recommend this property and we would stay again without hesitation! Thanks to the owners for a lovely week.

“Just enjoyed a lovely stay at no5.”

The cottage is lovely and cosy, was just two of us so was perfect. The cottage is equipped with everything you need for your stay. Lovely comfortable bed and nice shower. Little welcome gifts on arrival which was a nice touch. The kitchen would benefit from some tongs, but had everything else you could need. The garden was enclosed and safe for our dog which was a bonus. However could do with some tlc as it was overgrown and untidy in places. Please note the local public house is closed for refurbishment and nowhere else close by at least not walking distance anyway. One little bonus is the “shop in the shed” located in the pubs garden. It had a good stock of essentials such milk, bread, cheese, bacon, and sweet treats etc. As for location it is well situated to visit all the well known places in North Wales. Parking is available on a first come first serve basis near the cottage. We didn’t have any issues parking. Would definitely recommend staying here, we would be back but I think we have exhausted our exploration of North Wales in our weeks stay here. Five stars !

“A lovely property ideally located in the lovely village of Llandwrog.”

Close to Llanberis and Snowdonia National Park. Property was clean throughout. We didn’t use the living room at all during our stay but the kitchen was a nice size with a lovely island in the kitchen for you to sit at. Bathroom was good. Smallest bath in the world that is only useful for a small child. Shower was great. Ceiling fan made a knocking noise and didn’t seem to be turning properly so may need looking at? First bedroom is quite large with a lovely view overlooking the church yard. Second bedroom is small with two single beds in it. Only gripe was that the mattresses and pillows were far too soft. Landing at the top of the stairs is narrow and not much head room if you’re over a certain height which could be an issue for some. I’m 5ft 4 and my friend 5ft 2 and it was just about high enough for me but in reality how long are you going to spend on the landing! Overall a lovely property. And The Goat Inn about 15 minutes drive away (can’t remember the area!) was amazing! Food was delicious!

“We had such a wonderful stay.”

The cottage was spotless. The kitchen had all the essentials needed and was a good size with a lovely island. The lounge had very comfortable sofa and chair and a really good TV package. It also had some super quirky furniture which were going to try to find for our home! Upstairs the bed in the main bedroom was so comfortable with lovely fresh linen. The owners were really helpful and helped us rectify a minor issue we had. We enjoyed our stay at 5 The Crescent so much that we’re going to visit again as we have family nearby and it truly felt like home from home.

“Lovely little cottage which was clean and has a good sized kitchen / diner and a large double bedroom.”

The twin room would be OK for 1 adult or 2 smaller children as there is only space for the beds. The sitting room was comfortable and had a smart TV. You need to be aware that the landing is very narrow with restricted headroom, and the bath is a very short tub. Unfortunately the local pub was closed for a seemingly lengthy refurbishment, so there's currently no pub within walking the village. Parking is nearby but on a first come first served basis - we were lucky every day. The garden could be better maintained and is lacking a bbq, but was good for our dog. Bigger dogs could, if they wished, get over the low wall into the neighbours garden. The location was perfect for a quiet break, and the sandy beach at Dinas Dinlle was lovely.

Dear guests We were really pleased to hear that you had a good stay. We are sorry that the pub is still closed - we had been assured it would be open by now but obviously this is out of our control. The lack of a BBQ was a positive decision on our part as we find that often guests leave them in a poor state and the houskeepers do not have time on busy change over days to set to and refresh them. We suggest instead guests use disposable BBQs which are widely available and do not come with the associated cleaning challenges. The bath as you say is only small and has been included really for the benefit of guests staying with small children as they may find it more convenient than a shower. There is not room for a full sized one and a good sized shower so we chose to prioritise the shower space. The garden is a good size for a dog - it is not completely dog proof to bigger dogs or escapologists! “This cottage has so much going for it but it's not been properly equipped and the maintenance isn't all it could be so it's not quite there yet.”

The positives: Really comfy bed, lovely furnishings, warms up quickly when the heating is switched on, powerful shower, enclosed garden (unless your dog is an escape artist who's prone to push through gaps in the hedge etc). The location is lovely, quiet yet easy to get to the main road to explore. The local pub is still shut for renovation (the listing needs to be amended as it's not close to re-opening yet) but the community shop in a shed in the pub garden is a real treat. We had no problem getting parked on the street outside. The not-so-positives: All the wine glasses, mugs and some of the crockery weren't clean and all had to be washed before they could be used. Kitchen is still under-equipped despite the comments left last year - there were three teaspoons and most the cutlery is the cheapest plastic picnic cutlery. The windows were all filthy and the kitchen window was covered in cobwebs (we ended up giving it a clean as it was so unpleasant). There was very little hot water for the first 24 hours with no instructions on how to get more. The digital 'book of the house' is largely about a different property apparently in Menai Bridge, so the instructions for the heating etc weren't correct. The bathroom fan wasn't working so the (internal) bathroom stayed damp all day, not helped by the shower tray not draining (we ended up having to take the never-been-emptied drain apart to get it to drain) and there's no shower rack so shampoo bottles etc end up floating around in the undrained water. There's very little storage to unpack into, even for two people (heaven knows how four people would cope) - it really needs a chest of drawers in the bedroom. There's also nowhere to hang coats (some hooks or a coat stand in the kitchen would solve the problem) so if you come in with wet coats there's nowhere to put them. The garden isn't maintained - a sweep round of all the dead leaves and a mow of the grass would make such a difference. It's a beautiful cottage in a great location and could be an amazing holiday home but it needs a little bit more love to bring it up to standard. We enjoyed our time there but there were lots of little niggles and inconveniences that could be cheaply and quickly solved if the cottage was being properly managed. A lot of these comments have been made by previous visitors but the owner hasn't acted upon them, which is a shame.

Dear guest Thank you for your detailed feedback - it is always helpful when guests let us know their thoughts, as it can alert us to problems of which we are unaware and allow us to reflect on how we can make improvements to address your comments in order 1. we are sorry to hear that the pub is still closed for renovation. We has been assured that it would be open by now but obviously this is outside of our control 2. I am sorry to hear that the crockery was not clean - there is a dishwasher in the property and it sounds like the previous guests had maybe overloaded? Sioned always checks the cupboards but sometimes its not obvious that things are not perfectly clean until you use them - my appologies. 3. I am supprised that you found the windows dirty and covered in cobwebs as that was not how I observed things when I visited 2 weeks earlier and Sioned is meticulous in her cleaning 4. The digital guide was introduced after covid and most people like it. It covers the wto cottages I own - all the cottage instructions are for The Crescent but the restauraunt recommendations are common for both as they share a common catchment 5. I think somebody had been fiddling with the settings on the Nest thermostat which is why there was little hot water. As soon as I was made aware of the situations I was able to restore the settings using my online app and the hot water was restored. 6. I was sorry to hear that the shower had not been draining> the trap is cleaned regularly. Sioned has cleaned and put unblocker down and ther does not seem to be a problem now - thank you for bringing this to our attention 7. Thank you for letting us know that the extractor fan in the bathroon has broken - this is the first we had heard of it and is a suprise as the cottage was completely refurbished 18 months ago. Our plumber will replace it next week. 8. In a holiday cottage it is always a balance between floorspace and furniture. Most of our guests are only staying for a few nights and find the drawers, wardrobe and shelving space adiquate for their holiday stay. 9. I am sorry to hear that you felt that the lawn would have benefitted from mowing - I have raised this with Sioned for the benefit of future guests. “We really loved the cottage and it's location and plan to return when the pub in the village is open.”

All the people we met in the village were friendly. Our only gripe is with the search criteria on Sykes website. We stated we wanted "a pub within one mile" sadly we were not told that the pub was closed for refurbishment and had been for some time!!!

“Lovely cottage, clean and comfortable.”

No problems at all. Perfect for two people. Loved the island in the kitchen, it was much bigger than we expected. Only things we could comment on was the freezer compartment needs defrosting (looks like it had been left open and it’s iced up) and the knives need a sharpen. Otherwise we loved it and will book again.

“A lovely chocolate box cottage in a small village close to a local beach, with a dog friendly area.”

Had no hot water first night but reported problem and quickly fixed by the owner. The local pub was closed as currently being refurbished but plenty of eateries in nearby Caernarfon. We all enjoyed our stay.

“A new kitchen and bathroom, nicely decorated and exceptionally clean.”

As mentioned in feedback in April 24, there is insufficient cutlery, tools, plates etc. A coffee filter jug would be useful. The thermostat for the heating did not work and even though there was hot water, the radiators could not be turned on in the chilly evenings. There was no where to hang your coats. A few dishwater tablets for when you first arrive would have been good. There were no instructions for the property ie for the bin day and how to use the equipment. The glass tiles in the bathroom give natural light from the window in the bedroom. These glass tiles do require a curtain on the bedroom side, as during the night, when the bathroom light is turned on it lights up the whole bedroom. One of the main attraction of this property was the close proximity of the village pub as advertised in the property description. The pub was unfortunately closed in June 24 for refurbishment and may not open until November 24. Perhaps a note should be added to the property details to inform people of the closure. However we did find the community shop in the pub garden very handy.

Dear Guests We are delighted that you found 5 The Crescent clean and comfortable. We had already at the suggestion of a guest added some extra bits and pieces in the kitchen. Off the back of your recommendation we have addes more cultlery and plates and a coffee jug - it is a fine balance in holiday cottages between having sufficient and the cupboards becoming cluttered. I am sorry that you had problems with the central heating. I checked it and could find no issue - it is always a good idea to ring either the cottage owners or Menai if you incounter a problem during your stay in order that we can help to resolve the problem. The details on how to "use" the cottage - bin days etc are all electronic and the log in details should have been supplied to you by Menai. We have preferred this since Covid. I am glad that you found the community shop helpful. It is a shame that the pub is currently closed for renovation and I hope that this did not spoil your holiday. Best wishes Helen Property Owner

“The house was very clean and comfortable.”

Everything is very new so which is great. Quiet village. Two main issues - the lack of cutlery and dishes in the kitchen (only 4 knives etc when there could be 4 people staying). More chopping boards/small dishes/glasses and trivets or cork mats to put hot dishes on. It would be useful to leave some tablets for the dishwasher (but this only makes sense if more cutlery etc available as it is not the dish washer would be quite empty.) Some hooks on the back of the bathroom/bedroom doors would be useful as well as a set of hooks for coats in the kitchen. Generally very little storage upstairs - a chest of drawers would be good. Note that the bath is a half bath which does not lead to a relaxing soak as stated in the property description. It is fine if you are child under 10! Garden is quite well enclosed unless your dog is a real escape artist (the wall at the back is jumpable with a big drop on the other side). The village has very little grass areas for a dog walk - it is mainly road walking on narrowish roads from the house. Good beach nearby (a 5 min drive really) at lower tides otherwise very stoney. Local pub does not do food but good garden area for a drink.

It is a small bath not a full sized one and was included in addition to the shower as we felt it would be helpful for guests with small children. Regretably a full sized bath felt too big so it was removed in favour of giving more overall spave in the bathroom. We were sorry that when you visited the Harp Community Pub was not serving food - it usually does. As you correctly say, it does have a lovely beer garden! “The property was so clean and well presented, the bed was the comfiest we’ve ever slept in, with nice linen.”

We did have a problem with hot water in the shower; it was only Luke warm for about 2 minutes then ran cold but on the last 2 days it suddenly worked and became nice and hot. We cooked each night with no difficulty, the only suggestions we could make would be for there to be a caffetier for some lovely fresh coffee, a clock somewhere ( although a holiday is a time when time should be forgotten). One last thing was that the link to get the details about the house were the wrong ones (seaview cottage Menai ) but we managed. We would definitely recommend and stay again. Thankyou

“Very comfortable cottage.”

The owners allowed us to stay at very short notice as our original booking was not available due to a boiler problem. The cottage is in a beautiful village with a fantastic community run pub . The cottage was emaculate inside , the bed was extremely comfortable. We did have a few issues with the TV and WiFi but this was sorted out quickly by the owners and Menai . The surrounding countryside and beaches were amazing .

Llanberis 8 miles; Bangor 9 miles.

A pretty Welsh village just outside of the majestic Snowdonia National Park. Groeslon is the ideal base for exploring all of what North Wales has to offer. The village itself offers the traditional Penionyn Tafarn pub serving food, the ideal spot to sit and relax after a day of activities. There is also the Indigo Jones Slateworks, a slate business dating back to the 1860's which has a delightful café and is dog friendly. There is seemingly endless places to see and things to do around Groeslon with the historic town of Caernarfon just a short drive away, and the amazing Isle of Anglesey just slightly further, a place you must visit whilst in North Wales.
