“We booked Garth Cottage for Whitsun week for our Golden wedding Anniversary celebration en famille; six adults, five children under 11 and two energetic dogs.”

It is located in a truly idyllic location with fabulous panoramic views. Approached by a narrow single lane road, the access is fairly tight, but we comfortably parked three large people carriers inside the gates. Internally, the house is nicely presented with a comprehensively equipped kitchen (everything except an air-fryer) and plenty of quality cutlery, crockery, kitchen gear and glasses. Everything was very clean throughout. The bedrooms are roomy and the beds are comfortable and have quality bed linen. The bathroom and en-suite both functioned well. Having a separate toilet by the back door was really useful with the children. The upstairs sitting room was a big hit with the children and we all gathered there after dinner each evening for pre-bed TV viewing. Being relatively isolated from other properties meant that the children had considerable scope to let off steam without affecting anyone else. The grounds are secure for larger dogs and they are well separated from the woolly neighbours. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and were very glad we had chosen to go there. We particularly enjoyed the basket of Welsh specialties that greeted us on arrival. Minor downsides were that, on arrival, the grass was unplayable for football due to its length: that was swiftly rectified when the owner was informed. The football game and table tennis table in the barn were unusable due to age and missing pieces. The fan in the bathroom is very noisy. We hired a hot tub from the owner’s recommended company and welcomed it as a way of unwinding after days out. Given a magic wand, it would have been helpful to have a toilet adjacent to the bunk room upstairs (but not a deal breaker) and it would be good to have seen an appliance list before travelling (our slo-cooker is now a seasoned traveller) to save transporting things unnecessarily. Would we recommend Garth Cottage for a holiday break? Undoubtedly.

Thank you for your very positive review and we are so glad that Garth Cottage played a part in you enjoying your Golden Wedding celebrations. Congratulations on reaching that milestone. We have talked about buying an air fryer for a while, but your deciding vote won the day, and we have been and bought one! Your comments about the games and the fan have also been addressed. We hope to see you again in the future, perhaps for your Emerald and then Diamond Wedding anniversaries. All the best. Property Owner

Both sitting rooms are uplifted by large L-shaped sofas and bright refreshing colour schemes.

A country cottage theme flows elegantly throughout.

The town nearby offers a varied assortment of shops, bars, restaurants and pubs. The local is one of the oldest pubs in Wales, featuring its own in-house ghost, while the highest pub in Wales is also very close on the moors. In the town there are also the fascinating remains of a 13th century castle, commanding fabulous views out over picturesque landscapes including the Hiraethog mountains.

If you fancy a day out at the seaside, Prestatyn and Llandudno are within easy reach.

A day of shopping and exploring can be had in the historic city of Chester with its Roman Amphitheatre, charming Grosvenor Park, and the most visited zoo in the UK.
