The location was stunning, surrounded by a pleasant garden and fragrant trees. My stay was quiet and peaceful. The bedrooms were clean and inviting.
What unfortunately made it difficult for me to enjoy, and ultimately affected this review, is the living room. The property has a “no smoking” policy, yet the room felt and looked as though someone had smoked there regularly for years. I react very badly to any trace of cigarette smoke, which for me results in severe headaches, so I couldn’t even walk through that room without having to take a breath of fresh air from the garden first, just to reach the bedroom at the end of the cottage.
Thankfully, the issue was limited to the living room and not the bedrooms, so keeping the door shut helped. However, as a result, I could not fully enjoy all the facilities in the property. When I book, I specifically look for a non‑smoking property, and that is how this was described. Therefore, encountering this issue felt at odds with the listing.
For clarity, this did not feel like the result of a previous guest smoking.
My intention in giving this feedback is to make the owner aware of the issue, as suggestions are welcome, and also to inform other guests, particularly those who may be sensitive to tobacco. Other than that, everything else in and around the property was great.

We were, however, very surprised and disappointed by your comments relating to cigarette smoke and the ratings awarded, as they are entirely inconsistent with both our long-standing guest feedback and our experience of your stay.
The cottage operates under a strict no-smoking policy, there has never been smoking permitted inside the property, and we have never previously received complaints of this nature. The lounge does, however, feature a traditional log burner, clearly advertised as part of the cottage, which can naturally carry a light wood-smoke aroma associated with such features, something entirely different from cigarette smoke.
We also feel it is important to note that, despite describing the property as beautiful, well-equipped, peaceful, clean and inviting, the scores awarded appear disproportionately low compared with the substance of the written review and with the ratings consistently received from our other guests.
Had this concern been raised at any point during your stay, or during the occasions we saw one another around the property, we would absolutely have welcomed the opportunity to investigate and address it immediately. We understand sensitivities to smells can vary greatly, which makes open communication especially important.
Whilst we respectfully disagree with aspects of this review, we will nonetheless carry out an additional check of the lounge area, as maintaining high standards and guest comfort remains extremely important to us.
