Your information told us to leave the property as we would like to find it - clean and tidy but this wasn't the case when we arrived. The microwave was dirty. The cooker hob was filthy. We had to clean the bathroom sinks. the bin in the on-suite had not been emptied. We used the shower int he main bathroom but there was not holder for toiletries and the one in the on suite shower was rusty! The sofa and chairs in the sitting room were most uncomfortable and for people of mature years very difficult to get out of. There was a smell of burning in the sitting room possibly from the log burner which we did not have to use. The chimney probably needs sweeping. The lamp shade on the bedside table nearest the window in the twin room looks very old and is falling apart and needs replacing. The description of stairs up to the property is incorrect as there are steps down to the entrance door and very narrow steps. The picture in the Book in the property shows a totally different entrance door, not the one we had to use! The parking area is more suited to a 4 x 4 vehicle and not a small family car. The table and bench for sitting outside the property is old and needs replacing but the view from this seating area is only onto the parking cobbled yard, not very picturesque at all. The bench under the tree would have been more suitable but was dirty and had the tree branches covering it until near the end of our holiday, but still dirty and not clean enough to sit on. No coat hooks in the entrance hall and lots of cobwebs. There was a strong smell from the kitchen sink. We had to clean the toaster which was full of crumbs and looked rusty on the top or that something had been spilt on it. We cleaned it to the best of our ability as well as everything else we needed to use and left the property cleaner than when we arrived to a better acceptable standard.

I'm obviously unhappy to recieve to receive feedback such as this. These people left a similar review in the visitors book, in which I pasted a note against their comments: "I was unhappy to read these commets and an intial reaction was to cover it up. But thenagain, I thought that everyone is entitled to their views (within reason!!). Other comments/reviews have all been positoive. It should be said that the Egg;estones left the place very neat and tidy" I personally inspected the cottage prior to the their arrival. I did not I'd admit open the microwave which they say was dirty, my help assures me that it was clean. I do not agree that the cooker hob was filthy. I do not agree that the bathroom sinks were unclean. If the bin in the on-suite had not been emptied, an oversight for which I apologise. I'm sorry that they did not find sufficient holder for toiletries in the on suite shower. I cannot accept that it was 'rusty'. I'm sorry that they had difficulty with the sofa and chairs in the sitting room. I cannot agree that these are uncomfortable. If there was the smell of burning wood form the log burner I do not see the problem. I'll attend to the lamp shade on the bedside table nearest the window in the twin room' I'll ask Sykes to check on the description of stairs up to the property. No one else has had an issue with the parking area which is the main cobbled stable yard, I manage to drive modern sports cars across it. It was laid down in the 18th century. As to the table and benches for sitting outside the property , they are old, they are solid teak and do not need replacing. The bench under the tree is perfectly serviceable/usable. I haven't noticed any strong smell from the kitchen sink. If the the toaster was full of crumbs I apologise, it is/was not rusty on the top. Other guest reviews include: * lovely cottage and a very comfortabke stay *Lovely stay, comfortabk very clean and well equipped *Wonderful cottage very clean spacious and comfortable *Beautiful feel to the place, super clean, little homely touches *Elegantly appointed. Arguably one of the best holiday cottages in North Wales *Cottage very cosy with everything you could need *Absolutely perfect *What a beautiful cottage *Amazing stay, everything you need, could not fault anything I suppose that there are some people you just can't please. About the location

HOLYWELL

Mold 9 miles; Prestatyn 10 miles; Chester 18 miles.

The market town of Holywell in North Wales takes its name from the town’s most famous attraction, the 7th century St Winefride’s Well, one of the Seven Wonders of Wales. Holywell boasts over 60 listed buildings, with a variety of late Georgian and Victorian buildings on offer, along with a pedestrianised shopping centre, pubs, restaurants and an open-air market every Thursday. Just one mile away are the 12th century ruins of Basingwerk Abbey within the grounds of the Greenfield Valley Heritage Park, with its museum. There are many lovely walking routes in the area, including the open common area at Halkyn Mountain, Pennant Way, Offa’s Dyke and The Welsh Coastal Path. Within driving distance is the pretty Market town of Mold, which holds an outdoor market on a Wednesday and Saturday. The historic city of Chester, with its famous Rows, Roman Walls, racecourse, zoo, shops and restaurants is just over the border in England. The beautiful Welsh Coast is easily reached with the little seaside village and beach of Talacre only a short drive away. Prestatyn, Rhyl, and of course Llandudno are also easily accessible, together with the majestic mountains of Snowdonia. There are also some beautiful gardens to visit, Ness on the Wirral, and Bodnant Gardens in Snowdonia to name just two.
