David “Lovely house in a lovely setting, at the end of a challenging track (two cattle grids, one with a displaced rail [WARNING}).”
Surrounded by trees to the front, overlooking fields (sheep and cows) at the back, huge parking area. Some aspects were a little untidy (abandoned motors and “junk”). Disappointing that the hot tub was out of commission, apparently never to return. Descriptions were accurate if a little embellished. The downstairs (master bedroom) with the huge four poster bed would have been better if the mattress was as wide as the frame. The upstairs bedrooms were adequate nothing to note. The kitchen was ...
The kitchen was overly equipped (pans roasting tins bowls, enough crockery for the house’s capacity) with some unexpected omissions, no potato peeler!, the oven is the oil fired range and needed to be turned on well before hand, not ideal for morning croissants (the microwave/multicooker was utilized in its stead). Cooking a roast would have been challenging and requires aforementioned warm up time. The lounge was huge and TV easy to use, we didn’t use the games room. Bathrooms (well shower rooms) were well used and hot water was capacious enough for 4 showers. The upstairs was boarded (so slippers required), the light at the top of the stairs wasn’t, neither were some in the lounge. The lounge/diner lighting was a disappointment, reading was impossible at night, the wall lights, that did work, were inadequate, the kitchen was the refuge for the readers. The house book, was well read and warnings were heeded about the feel of a heat-pumped heating. Also the request that we kept the noise down after 23:00 in difference to the neighbours … what we hadn’t appreciated, two of the doors in the lounge (locked) separated us from these neighbours. An unresponsive contact e-mail was tried three times, twice to enquire/update about the Rayburn , the third to whinge about the cold, the radiators that were “in-circuit” were just discernibly above ambient, the two huge ones in the lounge stone cold. There were three log burners in the property (one in the lounge, one in the gym, and one in the downstairs bedroom). We have no idea about managing/lighting these, and even if we did there was no noticeable source for fuel, maybe the unanswering email? Overall, a great refuge, beautiful area, some good walking, would have been fantastic in the hot summer, but too cold for our Autumn sojourn
