“We stayed at Awelon from 24th December for three nights over Christmas as a joined family (2 adults and 3 children, including 6-year-old).”

We are local to the area but wanted a larger property for a special Christmas stay. The property itself was spacious, which worked well for our group, and there were plenty of lamps and lighting, creating a comfortable layout. The views from the bungalow were also very good, which we appreciated. We are local to the area but wanted a larger property for a special Christmas stay. The property itself was spacious, which worked well for our group, and there were plenty of lamps and lighting, creating a comfortable layout. The views from the bungalow were also very good, which we appreciated. However, our overall experience was significantly overshadowed by a complete lack of care and attention to detail from the owners, most notably regarding Christmas. We checked in on Christmas Eve to a property that had zero Christmas decorations — not even a small tree in the living room. Given the timing, this was extremely disappointing, especially for the children. We had paid good money for a Christmas stay and instead had to go out on Christmas Eve evening to buy decorations ourselves just to make the house feel a little more festive and magical. This demonstrated a real lack of thought and consideration from the owners and set the tone for the stay. It’s important to note that contact for the property was via the cleaning company, not the owners themselves. This review is directed at the owners, who are ultimately responsible for the standard, presentation and preparedness of the property. We were also told briefly before arrival that the property had everything needed for cooking, but this wasn’t fully accurate. The baking trays were peeling and inadequate, and there was only one wine glass, which again highlighted a lack of basic attention to detail and care. The towels provided were very small, and the grab rail by the front door came away from the wall the first time it was used, which was concerning. In summary, while the bungalow itself was acceptable in terms of space and location, the lack of care, poor preparation and absence of any Christmas effort completely undermined what should have been a special family stay. These issues need addressing to meet expectations, particularly for premium holiday periods like Christmas.
