The heating instructions in the cottage manual referred to a previous heating system rather than the new boiler and Hive system now in place. I have used Hive before and am familiar with boiler controls, so we managed to get the cottage warm by the following day, but it was not a good start. Once the cottage was warm, the main bedroom wall was running with condensation throughout the week. There is no heating in the small bedroom, so that room stayed cold. Parking was possible until the Wednesday, when the local council came to paint double yellow lines directly outside the cottage, which meant parking in the layby at the bottom of the steps. This was not a problem for us. The memory foam mattress did not suit us, although it seems many rental cottages now use memory foam, which may not be ideal for older guests. On the plus side, we enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was good and the lounge was comfortable. We got used to the stairs and they kept us fit. Overall it was a good stay. So far we have rented four cottages/apartments in the area and I would place this one fourth.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay overall. I take great pride in maintaining the property and would like to respond to a few of the points you raised. The boiler is not brand new; however, instructions for both the boiler and the new Hive heating system are provided in the cottage information pack. I checked after your departure and they were still in place. Condensation can occur naturally on a cold external wall, particularly during colder periods. If the wall had appeared excessively damp or “running wet,” I would have been very happy to inspect the issue during your stay and could have supplied a dehumidifier if needed. I always encourage guests to report any concerns as soon as they arise so that I can do my best to resolve them and improve their stay. The cottage description clearly states that the property has two flights of stairs and may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues. Parking arrangements are also outlined in the listing. The repainting of the double yellow lines by the council during your stay was unfortunately a coincidence and outside of my control. Finally, while I have received many positive comments about the comfort of the mattress, I understand that mattress preference is very personal and can vary from guest to guest. Property Owner
