Mermaid Cottage

Great location with a fabulous view over the Menai Straits.

Accommodation was clean and well equipped. All the beds aside from one single were comfortable. Some signs of wear to the paintwork but overall a lovely cottage which we d be happy to stay at again.

A lovely little cottage in an outstanding location.

We loved being just a few strides from the pebble beach, and the peace and quiet made for a wonderfully relaxing stay. There are just a few small maintenance items and finishing touches that, in our opinion, would make the cottage even better for future guests. Two of the four outdoor chairs had broken seats, and the parasol couldn't be secured because the hand bolts on the stand had rusted. A few of the lights weren't working (we assume they simply need new bulbs), including the en-suite mirror light and some of the main bedroom ceiling lights. The ceiling light outside the main bedroom was also missing, apart from the base. The lower kitchen cupboards had quite a musty smell, which had transferred to some of the crockery, so we washed everything before using it and kept it on the worktop afterwards. One or two of the baking trays could also do with replacing, as the non-stick coating has worn away. The Wi-Fi was excellent in the lounge and kitchen but didn't quite reach the bedrooms, so a small Wi-Fi extender would be a relatively inexpensive improvement. The lower bolt on the lounge French doors was quite stiff and would probably just benefit from a little lubricant. The en-suite also felt a little musty on arrival; airing it helped, although perhaps the extractor fan could run for a little longer after use. We also noticed a few spots of mildew on the bottom of the lounge curtains, and there were signs that some of the walls had previously been affected by damp. A couple of extra black bin bags would also be appreciated, as it's a small addition that makes a difference during a week's stay. We couldn't find any information about bin collection or recycling arrangements, and the recycling boxes were already quite full when we arrived, so a brief guide for guests would be helpful. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and thoroughly enjoyed the cottage. These comments are offered purely as constructive feedback, as we think a few minor maintenance jobs and thoughtful touches would make an already lovely place even more enjoyable for future guests.

Mermaid cottage was everything that we expected and more, the views were stunning,we sat in the garden most days looking out to Caernarfon castle and watching the wildlife.

The cottage it self was very comfortable it had everything you would want.We would love to go back again.

Very pleased with our stay at this cottage, the views were wonderful, just sitting outside looking across the strait, with the changing light, and tides.

And watching the little Sparrows in the garden.. Peaceful, and a well needed break, we had glorious weather all the time we were there, even managed to catch some lightning strikes at 5am due to a storm on the mainland..it was all clean and comfortable. Where the countryside meets the sea... Loved it!

A very clean and comfortable place and well equipped with everything we needed.We didn’t have the best weather but was happy looking at all the birds on the beach.It would be a place we would come back to.

This cottage suited us perfectly for a relaxing stay. Went down the road to Anglesey sea salt Booked a seaweed barrel. Well worth it. Lots of wild life on your door step. Newbourgh warren well worth a visit. Visited Dylan’s for Meni muscles . Certainly will be returning.

Wonderful stay at Mermaid.

Impressive refurbishment. Tastefully decorated and furnished throughout. A very peaceful and tranquil holiday. We will be back again.

We could not have wished for a better location- the views from the cottage are spectacular.

The cottage is decorated well and we had a really comfortable stay. The only issue was that there is some damp which encourages couple of slugs and some wood lice in. Overall, we were really pleased with the cottage and will definitely return.

Amazing location just off the beach, very quiet and relaxing.

We were there with three young children and they liked it. It's right next to the Sea Zoo and Foel Farm too which was handy on rainy days. Caernarfon Castle is right opposite the house too across the Menai. Lovely house and the Welsh tea and welsh cakes on arrival were great too. A dishwasher would have helped us as we were a group of 6 and the house was a bit damp in places but we would love to stay again and it's easy to explore all of Angelsey from here. Newborough beach was amazing and close by and we also spent a few days on the beach at Bennlech and Trearddur Bay too. Would recommend, great peaceful location!

Fantastic location we couldn’t have asked for a better week weather wise ,very comfortable property with stunning views but bedroom skirtings an eyesore full of dust and grimy also a damp problem in one bedroom but overall we enjoyed our time here.

Mermaid Cottage is in a wonderful position with amazing views from the garden and the lounge.

We were a family of 5 (with 2 children aged 10 and 7) and gran, and there was plenty of space inside and out. The lounge and master bedroom were very comfortable, but the ensuite was a bit smelly and needed work. The main bathroom was modernised, but the sink drained extremely slowly and the bath mat was frayed. The mattresses on the single beds weren't supportive and not ideal for grans aching back. We needed to swap 2 around and found that they could do with replacing. The kitchen and utensils are in need of a revamp. The house has a damp problem and we found a slug in the bedroom and on the worktop in the kitchen during our stay. All things that I am sure are on the owners radar, and it looks like they are being addressed slowly. There are a few inexpensive things that the owners could do to help guests. It would help guests if your property information was up to date and in an information folder, rather than scattered around the house. The wi-fi leaflet is out of date. A housekeeping book would also be useful. As there is no dishwasher a small supply of washing up liquid and cloths would be extremely helpful. There is a picnic bench in the garden but nothing comfortable to sit on to make the most of the amazing views and enjoy the space. Info said that there were garden chairs in the shed, which was incorrect. We found 2 wooden chairs but they were broken. We were informed that towels were not provided, but they were. Constructive criticism rather than complaints, as we all enjoyed our stay and I think that the price of the cottage is fair, considering it's wonderful position.

Lovely place, really clean, all the facilities you need and a quite incredible location.

Only recommendations would be to add blackout blinds to the main bedroom (blackout curtains are too far from the window and let in lots of light) and a different mattress. We have a Simba at home due to my back and shoulder issues and so this is an issue with all holiday accommodation we visit. Bed was reasonably comfortable but just didn't support me the way I need it to

What a lovely Christmas we had at Mermaid.

Wonderful views, crazy weather from wind, rain, thunderstorms and sun, but what a view to take it all in. Property comfortable and cosy. Lovely bedrooms. May need a little attention to the heating and ventilation in cooler weather as the outer rooms get cold. Overall a fantastic stay and would love to go in the warmer months and enjoy opening the patio doors for the view

A beautiful location with great views across the Menai.

The only thing I would mention is the water pressure to the en suite shower was rather excessive and probably needs altering. Maybe include a visitors book in the property for visitors to include where they've been and share their experiences, e.g. Supermarkets, places to eat, best places to see red squirrels, etc... Also, include a folder with operating instructions. We found the cooker instructions in a drawer in the lounge. We had a lovely week with great weather. Thank you.

Beautiful property with stunning views across Menai straits to Snowdonia.

Recently refurbished, the property was almost brand new, only the kitchen to update to keep up appearances with the rest of the house. I would recommend this property to people who like walking, fishing, painting, and watching the world go bye whilst relaxing. A great place to explore Anglesey, Snowdonia, Caernarfon, Llandudno and North Wales. 3 minor issues for the owner, skirting board by door in hallway rotted and slugs entering house, had to but salt down the hole to stop them entering.You need a bigger TV, with freeview, no point in having Sky tv with just terrestrial TV available, provide a hoover or a full size brush in order for guest to clean the wooden floors. That said thank you for sharing your property, it is absolutely beautiful, would come back in a heart beat

My 5 year old son cried when we had to leave!

Gorgeous little cottage in a beautiful location. Very clean and nicely furnished. Lovely views from the French doors which I enjoyed a coffee from most mornings. The only thing I really wished there has been was a long handled brush for the wooden floors and we struggled to find the bins for the cottage. We used a neighbours who left the same day we did. Despite searching for the recycling bins we were unable to locate any for mermaid cottage.

The situation of this property is unbeatable.

The views are amazing and the new living area really lovely. The main bathroom was great but the sink empties slowly in the ensuite. Whilst adequate the kitchen needs updating. The lower oven didn't seem to work and there is a smell in the cupboards. Also info about the recycling would have been welcome. Overall though very happy. Thankyou.

The property is ideal for those who want a quiet and relaxing holiday with lovely views over the water with Snowdonia in the background.

Refurbished for this year it is in very good condition, and well presented. We took food with us as there are no shops nearby, although we did see neighbouring properties receive supermarket deliveries. I particularly liked the visits each evening by the hedgehog! It would be useful if you could provide a long handled dustpan and brush to allow easy and quick cleaning of the hard floors in the property!

Amazing cottage in fabulous location overlooking the Menai Strait.

We enjoyed terrific weather which meant we could eat out each day / evening watching the change of tides and admiring the view. It's within easy reach of anywhere else on the island and made a great base for travelling around. Would love to return and would definitely recommend it. Comfortable and relaxing.

Had another very pleasant stay at your cottage.

So peaceful we appreciate the upgrade of our bespoke picnic bench. My only gripe is that the lounge furniture is very uncomfortable. Other than that it was perfect.

A beautiful cottage with an amazing view, in a really nice and peaceful area.

The kids absolutely loved watching the strait and walking down the pebble beach. Whilst it is out of the way, it is very easy to travel to nearby shops and amenities.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely holiday home.

The facilities and views were excellent. The only downsides were check in and out times, the 9-30 departure and the 6pm check in means you actually loose the best part of a day. Suggest a 10 am departure and 3pm arrival would be more appropriate.

Overall we absolutely loved our stay and on leaving immediately looked to rebook (fully booked until September unfortunately).

However despite numerous reviews mentioning the broken outdoor furniture this has still not been fixed/replaced which was very disappointing as obviously the feedback is not being actioned by the owners. Our only other criticism was the check in-check out times and the cleaning expectations of guests ‘due to covid’. Check in not until 6pm and check out by 9.30! Presumably to allow for adequate cleaning between guests, except the list for cleanliness to be completed by the guests was outrageous given the check in/check out times. We booked with Menai holidays last year just after the rule change to allow overnight stays in your family bubbles and the check in/check out times weren’t even this late/early in the height of the pandemic. We could check in from 3pm and check out by 10am, with much less cleaning expectations placed on the guest. In my opinion the new check in/check out times alongside the new cleaning expectations for guests mean you lose a day of your holiday. It feels very much how can we make more money whilst providing less. I feel this is a bit of a liberty by the property letting company especially given the more acceptable times during the height of the pandemic . Otherwise we loved our stay, loved the property, we have always had excellent experiences as repeat bookers with Menai holidays and would both recommend and use again, however the check in/check out times plus cleaning expectations did disappoint, alongside the property owners lack of attention to previous feedback about the garden furniture. It gave an impression of not being overly bothered about renter feedback as long as bookings continue to be made.

The location of this cottage is absolutely spectacular.

The main bathroom has been updated and is amazing, the one thing that is lacking is a dishwasher that could be easily fitted in. The outside table and chairs need to be replaced as on one chair the wooden slats are broken. Overall though we had a wonderful holiday and will definitely be back

The views from the cottage were beautiful, the cottage was wonderful and as described, the only criticism I have is the carpet in the bedroom needs replacing.

I would absolutely cool here again and again. So relaxing and pretty just what the doctor ordered.

Mermaid Cottage was perfectly located on the Menai Strait with stunning views of Snowdonia and close to the fantastic beaches of Newborough.

Walking distance to the Sea Zoo and Foel Farm Park. Comfortable and spotlessly clean, quiet and peaceful we would certainly recommend this cottage.

There is a damp smell in the lower cupboards at the side of the oven, it makes all the plates etc.

but there is a real musty smell in all the bedroom furniture and kitchen cupboards and being an asthma sufferer was really a off putting...parts are in need off a bit of up dating and would make this a fabulous cottage because of its location.

The weather was not great but we enjoyed a fabulous week in Mermaid Cottage.

Views across menai were superb and exciting watching waves blowing across in 60mph winds. Location good but a treck to nearest facilities so important to take supplies with you Cottage for six but lack of comfortable seating and hob a nightmare to turn on

This is my second visit to this cottage (I was last there in 2009).

The views are amazing. The cottage is clean and comfortable and well stocked (nice glasses, plates etc). Sadly the coffee maker wasn't there due to the covid clean up. The washer dryer is amazing (no dirty washing on the way home). The bathrooms are luxurious, especially the nice power shower in the en-suite. If I had any complaints they would be - The lack of an instruction book for the cooker and the tired leather suite in the living room (I think it was the same one that was there 10 years ago). Other than that absolutely amazing holiday home.

The mermaid cottage was very clean and was well equipped.

The surroundings were very tranquil and had lovely views.The only downside was the horrid smell in the double bedroom which would put me off going back there which is a shame as otherwise it's a beautiful comfortable cottage.

The location of the cottage was absolutely perfect and exceeded my expectations - we were right by the sea!

The cottage was very pretty from the outside, and had a lovely garden filled with butterflies and birds - and again exceeded expectations! Inside the cottage was very clean and had a superb bathroom and facilities. The only small thing it lacked was probably just a couple of ‘welcome’ bits, such as tea, coffee, etc. There was nothing that was complimentary or left as a ‘welcone’ - but that might be my expectations as the last cottage I booked had a welcone pack and lots of essentials that was really appreciated on the day of arrival.

Second time we have stayed here.

Absolutely beautiful cottage, couldn’t wish for a better location and view over the Menai Strait.

Loved our morning and evening walks in close proximity to the seabirds. Cottage very comfortable and very well furnished apart from markings missing on cooker hob and oven controls and a few garden furniture chairs broken so couldn’t be used.

and Snowdonia. The owners have installed a lovely new family bathroom. However the website still advertises it as having a toilet in the cloakroom. This was removed several years ago and may be important to some bookers. WiFi router does not work.

Cottage was outstanding and what a glorious place to stay, loss of one star as the central heating never came on so found it cold in the back of the cottage even with the electric heaters on (that we had to pay for).

We have holidayed at the cottage for the past four years, it really is lovely.

Ideal location and we've had wonderful times here. I'm really sorry to moan but the heating wasn't realistic, it didn't come on and it was cold and a little damp so we had to use the electric heaters on occasion (it was July!). There really should just be a straightforward way of watching tv. If sky is not on offer it really is annoying that you can see all the channels but not watch them, freeview would be so much less frustrating. Lack of Wifi is a major problem now, it really does make life difficult for self employed people like myself, plus we were with our teenage "kids" this time and it was almost like their oxygen had been taken away! it really is classed as a "utility" like gas, electric & water these days. We absolutely love Anglesey and especially mermaid cottage, it's well maintained, we've never had a problem, always clean, a joy to holiday in.
