What a lovely cottage with a well equipped kitchen in a lovely relaxing area very peaceful and loads of wildlife didn’t want to leave!

And really looking forward to another visit! Thanks Richard

I booked for a 3 night 'cosy retreat' with the anticipation of great walking in the area.

The house was glacially cold when I arrived - this has also been noted by previous users. Even when on 24/7, the heating was inadequate to heat the cottage to a comfortable level in mid March. The lounge was especially cold as the heater is so small and tucked in a corner. This means that the wood burner is a necessity, not just a nicety. However, only enough logs for one night were provided.The bathroom was so cold and uninviting that I could not even face having a shower. I wasn't informed about the sulphurous smelling tap water before arrival. I would have brought a supply of drinking water if I had known it was going to smell. As many have said - the location is stunning. Absolutely delightful - however, compared to many rural cottages I have stayed in, this one is really in need of an update, a thorough clean and new bed linen. I have shared my comments with the owner (by email) already, along with a few other comments regarding maintenance.

The description was spot on and we found Pen Y Bont to be a beautiful little cottage in a beautiful setting.

We loved it at Pen-Y-Bont, even though when we were there it rained constantly.

The river did rise quite high within the first few days due to the rainfall from the surrounding hills but we just put the flood gate up at the front door and some sandbags and carried on as normal. The owner Richard was super helpful and put our minds at rest, and said that the river would subside as quick as it had risen, and he was right, and luckily there was a man from the local council driving past when we were sweeping the leaves from the rain water drainage outside, and gave us 7 more sand bags to put out at the front as the water from the hills opposite was coming down the road quite fast. The beds were really comfy with lovely views of the River Dovey. I don't normally sleep very well when I'm away, but I slept fully every night here. The cottage is in a dip so there's no TV signal, but lots of DVD's to watch. Infact we stayed in for a coupe of days when it was raining, just sitting with the log burner going, while we watched films. There was a comment in the visitors book from the people before us saying that the log burner wouldn't stay a-light.....it did for us, maybe they weren't doing it correctly! The pub up the road, The Brigands Inn, only takes 10 minutes to walk to and they have a lovely menu and are very friendly and they're also dog friendly, which was great. This cottage has such a lovely feel about it, we really loved it there and would definitely recommend it. We'd love to go back in the summer time.

The cottage is set in a beautiful location on the river.

It would have been nice if the decking area was secure to give peace of mind as the dogs had to be tied up due to being next to the road. Kitchen very well equipped. Overall the cottage needs a good clean. The main bedroom had a sickly smell which really put us off the accommodation. Log burner would not stay lit. ( we do have experience with log burners) It’s the first holiday we have had that has been a disappointment. Suffice to say we did not stay the whole week and came home early.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this beautiful traditional cottage.

The view was utterly breathtaking, we spent so much time admiring the beauty of the idyllic landscape and watching the abundance of wildlife. We enjoyed paddling and swimming in the river, scrambling over the rocks and exploring the local area. The cottage was cosy and the beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. We had all we needed, everything for a comfortable enjoyable stay was considered and thought about. The neighbours were very friendly and the area is very peaceful. Great location for exploring the local area. Thank you so much for letting us stay, we will definitely be returning and looking forward to it already

Although the Cottage is old & the shower could need a little makeover, we really loved Pen-y-Bont It has a unique atmosphere and the Location ist awesome.

The Cottage is cosy and well equipped. Specially the river nearby was a highlight for the children. There is a lot to do & explore in the area, but the Cottage is in a quiet place. So we could relax and enjoy the beauty of Snowdownia.

I already knew of this cottage but to actually stay there was simply wonderful the views and the sound of the waterfall was mesmerising.

We saw so much wildlife from the windows we didn’t need to leave the cottage that often. I can’t recommend it enough.

We loved our week at Pen y Bont.

The location is wonderful and so relaxing. The local walks were great and being so close to the river made it extra special. The cottage has everything we needed, perhaps some folding chairs for the decking would be nice. We would recommend the cottage to anyone who enjoys peace and quiet and lovely walks.

The property is dirty and requires more than a deep clean.

Air fryer dirty, kitchen extractor dirty,stale and mouldy food in between settee cushions bread crumbs on the kitchen side. But no bother we cleaned all those areas to make the stay more comfortable, however we didn't wash the stained pillows and mattress protectors, we might have done but the washer barely works and a less than helpful host advised us to take our washing to the laundrette. Happy holidays. The windows are also filthy inside and out. Now the bathroom is a health hazard with mold and who knows what level of disease you could get from the light switches. No we will not be going again.

Pen Y Bont is a beautiful cottage nestled along side the river.

The views are outstanding! A magical place to relax, inspire, paint or write The cottage itself is comfortable with everything one might need. The kitchen is well equipped. Bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds. This is our second visit in six months. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. (Again) The fabulous spring weather topped off our positive experience.

The views from the windows were amazing, and we really enjoyed our stay. Our two dogs had a blast swimming in the river and going on beautiful walks around the area. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay, which made it very comfortable. However , a good clean downstairs would help. Overall, it was a perfect getaway for us, and we highly recommend this cottage.

September ‘24 stay Penybont is a beautiful cottage set alongside the magnificent river Dovey The views are truly breathtaking.

Penybont Cottage is comfortable and has everything one would need. We had a very enjoyable relaxing week here.. I set up my easel in the spare bedroom, and was inspired to paint a few pictures which now reside on my lounge wall. A beautiful reminder of our lovely holiday . Thank you - can’t wait to return we are going back in March 25

The cottage is set in a gorgeous location with picturesque walks, although be careful of the farmyard dog at the beginning of one of footpaths, he chased us away and wouldn’t let us pass!

The cottage is very comfortable and fairly well equipped. However, the property could benefit from a thorough clean, and there were no welcoming touches to enhance our stay as you usually find with places on Airbnb . Communication from the owner and Sykes was very poor—except when it came to financial matters. During our stay, the river overflowed, flooding the porch, hall, and lounge. Unfortunately, we received no communication or assistance (apart from a kind neighbour) regarding this issue and, to date, our emails remain unanswered. What began as a promising getaway regrettably turned into a bit of a disappointing experience

We had a fabulous stay at Pen y Bont, what a beautiful cottage in the most idyllic setting.

So quiet and peaceful exactly what we wanted. Breakfast on the decking was fabulous watching the antics of the numerous pheasants and red kites. Beautiful walks from the cottage. The Brigands Inn 15 min walk for excellent food and drinks. Would definately recommend for a peaceful walking holiday.

The cottage is a cosy comfy place, nothing is too much and nothing is missing.

It is surrounded by a beautiful nature. Being by the water is a very special feature to me, and this is as close as you can get to the river. The communication with the owner was very efficient and pleasant. I would highly recommend Pen Y Bont and hope to return there.

Maybe get some new photographs as the ones on the site don't do it justice.

Beautiful location, very scenic and close to some fabulous walks.

Unfortunately the cottage is in dire need of a thorough clean and some TLC in particular the bathroom. On arrival I had to clean the microwave in order to heat up our previously prepared dinner! The cottage provided all essentials however and we did enjoy our stay overall.

Property was nice and cozy in such a lovely location with well equipped.

Enjoy the river and mountains. But sadly it’s needs deep cleaning in many areas and some equipments to be replaced . We enjoy our holiday. Hope owners will arrange to fix the matters.

The river view was stunning. Cottage was clean and provided everything you needed. Would not hesitate to book a stay here again.

Upon arrival the cottage was absolutely freezing - everything turned off, so we turned all heating on, lit the fire and went to the local pub for a meal.

Still cold when we returned but the next day and the rest of the week we had it toasty warm. Enjoyed watching the river rising with the heavy rain we had, must have risen 6' to our arrival and were contemplating the flood gate - Not necessary in the end. The pipistrelle visited mid week and got some lovely photos of him(her) snuggled up to my thumb before placing in the hedge as instructed. No TV.was disappointing even though we were warned about this in the description, as the WiFi was excellent I would really suggest the owner invest in a newer internet/smart TV with Netflix etc for the long evenings. All things considered we had an excellent week and can really recommend the pub on the roundabout which is dog friendly too - Bonus. Thank you.

We loved our stay here. So lovely to listen to the water. Lucky to have a few jets fly over. So much to do nearby. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely cottage in such a peaceful and picturesque setting.

The cottage is really cosy and has everything you need. There was great communication from the owner, who is very friendly and helpful. If you stay here, you will have great walks, waterfalls, forests and the sea, all within easy reach. Wonderful dark skies too, just outside the front door! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved every minute.

This cottage was set in pure peace, away from everyday life and set in perfect surroundings The river in the back just set it all off, what a place, and if your into wildlife, the whole surrounding aspect gives you all, plus the the buzz of the odd jet or two Thanks Richard and Co, loved it.

On arrival we were informed that we had no hot water in the bathroom sink, for the entire week due to an on going problem with the electricity, this was due to be fixed the Friday we left.

The bathroom needs a entire refit as it appeared mouldy, damp and unclean. Some of the sockets don't work in the sitting room and the bedside lamps in the double room didn't work either. Richard did however promptly sort us a new microwave, which was no mean feat in rural Wales, when the old one sparked and smoke came out of it !!
