Staying in the beautiful Welsh Countryside was just wonderful from beginning to end.

The cottage was perfect. So well prepared with everything we needed. Clean, comfortable and well stocked with a surprise welcome pack of Welsh cakes, bread milk and scones. Delightful place. The hosts were on hand for anything of needed. Very hospitable and friendly. Couldn't fault it. Well worth the winding roads and country lanes to find this gem of a place.

Lovely old cottage, very nicely fitted out and comfortable.

Beds all very comfy but not a level floor in the place! The kitchen has everything you will need and the living room has comfortable sofas and chairs. The stairs are quirky lumps of slate and uneven, so would be unsuitable for anyone with reduced mobility. The cottage is in a beautiful place but despite it only being a few miles out of Harlech it takes around 25 mins to get to it as the lanes are very narrow and windy and you may have to reverse a number of times to let vehicles pass.

When I approached the property it was a wow and the kitchen was very nice then I walked in the lounge area and I cried it was beautiful so much character all through the cottage.

We struggled with the ovens but managed to finally worked it out.Being in the tree tops listening to the birds was so relaxing.This property and surrounding area was so peaceful.Thw owners was friendly and polite.

This is a truly magical place.

The cottage is antiquated and wonderful. Everything I expected and more, but actually got this time. Peace, tranquility and fabulous scenery await you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if one wants to get away from it all, especially with a loved animal. The road in is nowhere near as challenging as I was led to think. Only 15 or so minutes to the nearest town which has everything one could need. Took the 'road' over the hill one time by mistake, (first left 'track' when leaving the cottage). Tough navigation in a Merc saloon that time but got thru ok with no damage. Would be a good ride in a Land Rover !!. Terrific views up there but the very best part was an abundance real live wildlife, some I had never seen before in the wild. And in a vehicle with noise too. Hiking or trekking up there would be so much more rewarding I think but at almost 80 and with a fairly new hip, those days are over for me. The one downside is as soon as I got home I had to give all my (precious) lamb away. Cannot think about eating it again after being so close to babies and mother sheep/lambs. Just me, c'est la vie. The owners/farmers are lovely hard working people. Usually smiling and up for a chat. Lovely place and good time with family I rarely see.

The only way to this property is via 3miles of extremely narrow winding lanes with very few passing places.

The property is full of character,with lots of beams and a nery low doorway to one of the bedrooms,so you do have to be careful and also when ascending and descending the staircase. The stairs need more light and it would be good if you had control over the central heating, but you dont.

An absolute gem of a cottage!

The roads are a little tight but once you are there it is perfect. Cozy, clean and comfortable and Ben is a wonderful, helpful host. We can't wait to go back!!

We've had the most amazing holiday due to a combination of a beautiful isolated location, a characterful farmhouse and gorgeous weather.

We've swum in the sea & in the river, been to Zip World & walked in the heather covered hills - a truly magical week. Admittedly, the road to the farm is a bit of an adventure but so worth it & you can walk out in every direction with not a person in sight. We saw bats, more swallows than I've seen in years swooping over the river and, way up the valley, a goshawk. The farmhouse was spacious & comfortable for the 5 of us although we did have to set up a rota for the electric armchair. Even in the hot weather we were lucky enough to get, inside was nice and cool - well, the walls are about 4 feet thick. Parts of the farmhouse date back nearly 500 years & some of the beams upstairs are huge - you do get a real sense of age but, in a good way. Ben and Sandra are really lovely people. Welcoming, friendly and helpful without ever being intrusive. In conclusion; if you would like being right out in the countryside in a real old Welsh farmhouse, Cwm Yr Afon Mawr is just the place.

Superb location if you want to get away from it all and don't mind driving along single track roads for a couple of miles. Ben was really friendly and enjoyed a chat :-) Property itself is lovely, cosy and well kept. Thank you for a lovely stay - we'll hopefully be back next year!

Stunning walks and scenery from the front door. The owner was very friendly and gave lots of useful local information which enhanced our stay.

It was extremely comfortable with the most breathtaking views so peaceful and calm. The cottage has been carefully designed with lots of extras everything you need to make your stay perfect and the hosts were lovely and very welcoming. Thank you both so much for making our family holiday so very special.

Myself and my family were blown away with this cottage - such a perfect setting to explore local walks and wider afield, aided by the owners friendly and welcome advice of how best we might use our time.

Ben was also willing to offer an insight into a working farm life which has given our family a deeper respect for those that live and work in these ways. The cottage itself is everything you could expect - rustic, practical, cosy, quirky, well-equipped, comfortable, private and beautifully peaceful. I’ve read loads reviews that say “we’ll book again” but genuinely - we WILL book again, a few nights was simply not enough to properly explore this stunning part of Snowdonia/Eryri. Our honest advice is to book this cottage, we can’t think of anything you could need that it doesn’t offer. Thanks Ben and family for a really, really good experience.

Beautiful cottage.

We were a family of 6 who stayed & it was spacious enough that we wasn’t all on top of eachother. It is well equipped with everything you might possibly need. It is a little off the main route, but that’s what we loved about it as we weren’t disturbed by noise or light pollution. We were close enough to everything we needed, we know the route to Harlech off by heart now. We loved the peaceful mornings of sitting with a cup of tea listening to the stream & the birds sing. Local sheep were very friendly too! Ben & Sandra were excellent hosts, they were very helpful when it was needed. We would 100% come back here again.

The directions to find the cottage were very confusing and not accurate.

After a long journey to get to Wales the last thing I needed was to follow the instructions and find myself stuck up a dirt track grounding my car. You do not keep left at the house with the terracotta door, you simply follow the road up the hill for 3 miles. Once at the cottage the owner Ben popped to greet us and made us feel very welcome. I had updated my booking to 3 adults but this information had not been shared with the owner. Ben brought us the extra towels that we needed for the 3rd person straight away. The cottage is very well presented and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay.

A really peaceful location but one you hope to not meet another vehicle coming down the single lane 3 mile track!

Absolutely loved the cottage,we as a couple found it great.

The german shepherd we had with us loved the space the secure garden and great walks.This place is soo off the beaten track, if you want to get away from it all this is where to go but not too far away for a short drive if you wanted anything.The cottage it's self we found amazing and would definitely consider going back and has all what you need for a great comfortable stay.The owners we met a couple of times as its part of an active farm of which they was busy with lambing,but if you wanted anything or any info they was near if needed but did not interfere with your stay,both were very friendly approachable and informative.Overall fantastic stay which is quite remote but we wanted this and would definitely recommend and would like to return to again, Thank you for a great place and a great cittage,we loved it ;-)

The cottage is just lovely in gorgeous surroundings. When getting there don't make the mistake of slavishly following your sat nav, go to Llanbedr first and follow the instructions given!!

A lovely old Welsh cottage.

Well equipped and comfortable. The perfect place for a peaceful holiday. The owners who lived nearby were on hand for any help required. We will definitely return.

The cottage was beautiful and had lots of character.

Sadly the cleaning was not up to scratch and I left the place cleaner than I found it. The throws on the sofas were disgusting and filthy underneath which I discovered as I took one off to wash after a small spillage. I had to vacuum the seat as the cushions were covered in dust and crumbs. There were spiderwebs and spiders up the sides of almost all of the furniture. There was a large leak in the utility room roof which soaked my suitcase and some of my clothes which i had popped on the side. The tap water was brown and we weren’t sure if this was safe so had to buy bottled water. I wiped the work surfaces in the kitchen over when we arrived just to put my mind at rest as I have a young baby and the cloth was dirty afterwards. The main shower controls all kept coming off in your hand. Its a shame these points let it down as the cottage as it is beautiful, however I would have expected a lot more for the price that we paid for the stay.

Beautiful 500 year old cottage, full of character yet with all the modern facilities we expect.

It is set amongst the beautiful Welsh mountains and whilst a little remote, that adds to the charm. The owners who are close by in case of need, were very helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend this cottage.

As anticipated, this cottage is very isolated, but a very pleasant location and a friendly reception from the owners.

The accommodation is excellent but very remote, we loved it, walking and trips to the local lakes and the beaches were fantastic.

The house is very well laid out and looked after and furnished to an excellent. spec. Communications such as internet and phone signal are very poor to non existent, so if this is important it’s not for you. As a family retreat and getting away from it all, this was perfect. The owners were lovely, they were helpful and friendly but not at all intrusive even though they live nearby. We were fortunate that we had booked both cottages as it was an extended family break which meant the teenagers had somewhere to escape the rowdy adults. Fantastic place

What a fabulous property in an idyllic location.

We wanted a chilled break and got exactly that,the scenery was stunning and there are lots of lovely walks and not too far from the beach. The village pubs were great for eating out even allowed us to take our dog with us. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. We will deffinately return and would highly recommend to anyone wanting peace and tranquility.

Accomodation well equipped, owners close at hand if needed but never intrusive. Definitely would return.

The cottage is a delightful retreat for anyone seeking a quiet, peaceful few days away from the chaotic world we live in.

Ideally placed for walking/ hiking and visits to the coast. The owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. The drive from the village is a couple of miles along a single lane which could be challenging for some drivers. However the scenery and peaceful surroundings makes the effort worthwhile. It is definitely on our return to list

Friendly helpful owners and a real homely feel with everything we needed as a family of 6. Stunning places to visit like Harlech Castle, beaches, Snowdon, even Anglesey...though expect narrow roads!

Enjoyed it.

But directions from Llanbedr to the property and key information is not clear. Got lost, and got stuck behind the broken down car as it is very narrow single lane. When eventually made it to the farmhouse on bumpy long drive, could not find the key under the plant pot, it was in the door instead. Very frustrating. But once we enter the house it was perfect. Only issue was the En-suit shower was not that good.

We had car problems while we were there.

This was perhaps the biggest negative we experienced because the phone and wifi availability at the property were weak. Fortunately the owners Sandra and Ben were very helpful and we eventually got back on the road. The location of the property was beautiful and peaceful and there was lots of places to visit and enjoy in the area.

We had a lovely weekend in this cottage.

The cottage is decorated beautifully with crisp clean linens and plenty of towels. 5* The owners were lovely and friendly.

A great place run by a cracking couple.

Well worth the drive up the valley from the main road. Comfortable rooms and a great rural position, off the beaten track. Good walking country and not far from beaches, castles etc. We really had a great time with our grand children who loved the place!

Very welcoming hosts who gave us food for breakfast when ours wasn't delivered.

Fabulous setting. Great to be able to walk straight from the house. Very cosy house with very comfy beds and lovely duvets. Kids really enjoyed it.
