“The property is situated in a nice location and could be an exceptional holiday home.”

However the owners need to get a cleaner in, that cleans, as the house was covered in dust and cobwebs. Towels were hard and past their best. One tea towel provide, no salt or pepper, coffee in one lump in jar. Even a cheap bar of chocolate left by the owners had a expiry date the day after our stay. It's as if the owners don't care about the property, it feels neglected. I would not rent this property again and will not be recommending it anyone. I feel it is not value for the money in ...

“A lovely place in a spectacular spot.”

And, for me, wonderfully quiet. The family visited to check we were happy and were very helpful. We had interesting chats on the patio. The house was warm when it needed to be and cool when not, without our having to intervene with thermostats etc. Rooms well furnished and bathrooms well appointed and spotless. A few more tea towels are all we had to request! The patio was blissful on the warmer evenings. Perhaps a sunbed or two might not have been out of place.

“A beautiful cottage with stunning views, close to the town of Harlech and close to the beach.”

“Title: Beautiful views ruined by poor cleanliness and outdated facilities Review: I wanted to love this cottage because the views are genuinely fantastic, but the lack of cleanliness and modern maintenance ruined the experience for us.”

The property didn't smell fresh when we walked in, and we quickly noticed cobwebs in almost every corner. Finding hairs in the clean towels and dealing with a strong sewage stench from the downstairs toilet was highly unpleasant. The interior is very outdated and requires a thorough refurbishment. Additionally, the amenities are a bit misleading—it was fine for 4 people, but the property lacks the seating and basic kitchen inventory (like mugs) to comfortably accommodate 7 guests. Sadly, I cannot recommend staying here in its current condition.

“This cottage is absolutely beautiful, far larger than it appears to be, nicely furnished and with absolutely beautiful views from the back of the house.”

Although it is on a very quiet road, it is within easy walking distance of Harlech and can be used as a base for exploring the neighbouring towns and places of interest. Our party of five adults and a dog had plenty of space and the house was so quiet at nights and the beds so comfy that none of us had any difficulty in sleeping. We would highly recommend the cottage and if we return to Wales would be delighted to stay here again. We hit a rainy period but that did not take away from our enjoyment at all.

“The tv shown in the downstairs bedroom was missing and the mattress was very cheap if I sat on it I would sink down to the bed base board and springs made a lot of banging noise ,as this room is probably used mostly by people like me 74 years old and disabled it needs a comfortable bed not up to our usual standard.”

The towels and bedding was not changed in the two weeks we were there.

“With six of us staying in the property we self catered for 6 evening meals out of seven and it would have been useful to have a casserole dish available.”

Otherwise we lacked for nothing and the property had such a wonderful view from the patio. Indeed, the weather was so kind to us that every evening meal was taken at the table on the patio.

“What a property!”

The view is beyond 10/10 and the location is perfect. Plenty of parking and space for everyone. The smart tv allowed a movie night during our stay. The owners arrived same day to change something for us and gave a warm welcome with local recommendations for our stay. We're incredibly grateful for our time at Carreg Wen, diolch!!

I've stayed in Snowdonia many times but never near the beach - standing on a sandy beach while looking at the mountains is something special!

“The cottage exceeded all our expectations.”

It is situated in a really good position. The views from the patio across to the mountains are superb and the sunsets were fantastic. The patio itself was brilliant for sitting on in the late afternoon when the sun shone on it. The cottage itself is very spacious, clean and extremely well-appointed. We immediately felt at home and thoroughly enjoyed our week, especially as the weather was so good. The Welsh cakes and bottle of wine were a thoughtful touch. We would definitely come again if we were holidaying in the area

“We had a wonderful week at Carreg Wen.”

The cottage has wonderful views and is very comfortable, homely and spacious. We were blessed with the weather most of the week so spent many hours on the wonderful patio. It was difficult to find in the dark - look out for the red and white chain across the drive. The owners were very friendly and we loved watching them work in the fields with their sheep and sheepdogs. The kitchen could do with a few more bits and bobs as most things were a bit thin on the ground; however, we managed and it didn't spoil our visit. The extra fridge / freezer in the utility room was very welcome, especially for our beer and wine, also with lots of room to store things. It is a lovely area to explore and we particularly enjoyed our walk and paddle on the glorious beach. We would highly recommend this cottage and would not hesitate to return when back in the area.

About the location

Situated in a magnificent position between the mountains and the sea, the delightful small town of Harlech is dominated by its majestic 13th century castle. Harlech Castle is recognised as the most impressive of all those built in North Wales by Edward I and has World Heritage status. The town is very popular with golfers, who come to enjoy the famous Royal St. Davids course, whilst the beautiful sandy beach is wonderful for family fun and long walks. Harlech offers an excellent variety of amenities including some good quality restaurants, whilst the whole of the Snowdonia National Park, together with the sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay, are all within easy reach.
