    “This property is simply spectacular!”

We had the most fabulous week of family reunion with family members coming from various parts of the world to celebrate a special birthday and for us all this was our first visit to Wales. The fabulous rooms were complemented by an equally fabulous set of surroundings in the form of extensive garden grounds equal to any stately home in the UK. Our dog was in heaven with the river being within a short walk away. The kitchen/dining room is equipped to fully professional standard and having a garden room/conservatory for us all to assemble in at the end of a busy day visiting local sites was really welcome. We were blessed with sufficiently good weather to be able to dine outside on several occasions including the use of an excellent barbecue on the property. As holiday property owners ourselves, "Tan Llan" more than exceeded anyone's expectations and passed our critical view with ease. We simply cannot recommend this property highly enough and would readily return when the occasion arises. It is beautifully situated for visits to the fabulous countryside and monuments and the beaches at Barmouth are exceptional. We really were impressed and thanks to "Tan Plan" our American visitors will certainly return home with unforgettably favourable memories of Wales, as will we. Thank you so much to Sykes Cottages and their colleagues for such a memorable visit.

About the location

LLANELLTYD

Dolgellau 2 miles; Barmouth 8 miles; Fairbourne 9 miles.

Set at the starting point of the sweeping Mawddach Estuary and caught between Snowdonia’s sea and mountain scenery, the small, peaceful village of Llanelltyd rests amongst climbing green hills, offering a perfectly peaceful holiday location for touring this vibrant area. The crumbling Cymer Abbey, a 12th century romantic ruin, and St Illtyd’s Church, thought to be one of the oldest in Wales, stand testament to the village’s past. There are plenty of pretty walks in the area with Llanelltyd Bridge, an ancient attractive footbridge crossing the shallows of the River Mawddach, offering the chance to settle on the shingled riverside in view of the nearby mountains. The River Mawddach hurries past, heading to the mouth of its estuary, with the Mawddach Trail, leading alongside the marbled, silky sands, offering a rewarding route for explorers. Llanelltyd has its own restaurant, which proudly offers panoramic sights and fine local fare, plus there are plenty of places to eat, interesting shops and quirky cafes to be found in Dolgellau, just two miles away. Barmouth is a short drive away, where you can enjoy a fun-filled family day beside the sea finished with traditional fish and chips on the harbour front beside its vast Blue Flag beach. Within easy driving distance guests can uncover much of Snowdonia's spectacular coast, take a nostalgic train trip by steam or conquer Cader Idris, Snowdon’s quieter counterpart. Enjoy a boat trip or test out exhilarating watersports, venture underground to unearth Snowdonia’s mining history, cycle or walk world-class tracks through thick forests with the Coed y Brenin park just five miles away, or learn of Snowdonia’s many castles and landmarks. Llanelltyd sits at the meeting of intertwining rivers and roads, providing a perfect touring base for day trips and discovery in this richly diverse destination. From immaculate sandy beaches to sheep-studded pastures framed by dramatic peaks, this striking area of Wales offers endless adventure and is certain to live long in the memory.
