What guests are saying
This is the second time we’ve stayed here but the first time in the summer The accommodation was identical to the last time we stayed - just outside the village of Beddgelert opposite the campsite The cottage is exactly as listed an old miners cottage with one open plan room downstairs and a bedroom and shower room upstairs There is no real outside space - the outdoor table and chairs is on a 3 foot strip of land at the front of the cottage - but it overlooks oks the main Beddgelert to Llanberis Road, plus you have to share this area with the bins so it’s not a relaxing space The cottage is on a busy road and in the summer it’s a bit of a “rat run” If I was coming back in the summer I’d want some proper outdoor space - we couldn’t/ wouldn’t sit out here because of the road which is a real shame The back of the cottage needs clearing - it’s the emergency escape route and I’d take my chances jumping out of the bedroom window rather than using it as I’m more likely to be injured going out that way This review sounds negative but it’s really not - the cottage is lovely, for a couple - it’s well equipped (fridge is a bit small and the oven a bit temperamental) but apart from that it’s a great space to enjoy the village and all the walking routes direct from your front door
We arrived in the dark (due to check in being at 1700) which is great if you know where you're going, but if you're unfamiliar with the area this could be an issue.
The property was freezing cold on arrival - plus it smelt damp and musty as if it hadn't been in use for a while. There was no winter heating pack for the fire (as is usual in properties with a log burner) so we were unable to light the fire on the first night as the shop in the village was closed (so we decanted to the pub!!!) The cottage itself is lovely - seats 3 downstairs, 2 at the dining table with a fabulously comfortable double bed upstairs. The stairs are steep (as it says in the information) and the shower cubicle is a bit small. The kitchen is really well equipped (possibly the best in any rental I've been to) - it has an electric hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster - only slight issue was a smaller fridge than we were expecting. This cottage is a traditional miners cottage on the outskirts of Beddgelert - you step outside and you're straight onto the many walks around the village. It has a great post office/ corner shop, a couple of pubs (which both serve food) and a cracking bistro (best to book in advance). We had a great 7 nights here and have rebooked for July (when its a bit warmer)
The cottage is directly on one of the 3 main routes into the village but you can walk in easily in about 10 minutes.
In daylight, you can walk most of the route along a footpath by the river. We hardly used the car as there are a lot of walks directly from the cottage and everything we needed in Beddgelert. The cottage is a one up, one down (+shower room upstairs). We used the log fire and it was very cosy. It has been nicely done out. There is no garden which didn’t affect us as it was cold and wet, but is the only hesitation I would have in recommending it to my friends.
