Quarry Cottage

Absolutely LOVED quarry cottage.

It’s a perfect getaway, sympathetically decorated but with all mods cons. Alexa, Freeview TV, WiFi and dog poo bags supply were lovely touches. Plus this is the first holiday home we’ve ever stayed at that had plentiful supplies of hand soap, toilet roll, tea towels sponges etc. made all the difference. Owner was lovely to deal with and very welcoming. There are some really nice historical touches around the cottage, with little labels explaining their provenance. Having the steam train travelling past so close was an absolute delight, even the spaniel loved waving her paws at them! We loved the location and Blaenau, and will be back!

Thank you for allowing us to stay in this magical and unique place, it was a lovely historic Welsh cottage in a great location, and was clean and well-equipped.

Place was dirty .

Bench outside was old and felt like it could break . Had not been cleaned from previous person staying . Plug in lounge was burnt out . Had mice in the kitchen which left droppings. Have video evidence. Spoke to Sykes to lodge a complaint.. nobody got back to me . Spent 3 hours cleaning. Just so I could stay there as we had driven a long way . Dog dirt in the garden . Was cleaner when I let . Also the drains ( which they said they were doing ) were over grown and not been touched for a year . I went in April 2026

We really enjoyed our stay at Quarry Cottage - it is a lovely and charming place in a great location (and crossing the railway line to get in is a fun novelty!

). Has a brilliant rural feel. Watching the steam train from the garden is wonderful. Kitchen is well equipped and the cottage surprisingly warm, especially with a fire going. We would love to return again.

Cosy, quirky cottage.

All the basics... Just about! Clean-ish and tidy where it counts, but dig deeper and there are a few areas that could really do with a good tidy and spruce up! Warm and comfortable for the most part although the bed was awfully squeaky every time you moved. A good base for us, despite being a little on the dates side.

So posting on Trustpilot - message copied from Truspilot Entry + Update My review contains the good, bad & ugly….. The good the cottage is in an excellent location for exploring Snowdonia The bad, we arrived to find the cottage damp, smelling and freezing cold. NO fire stater kit was provided and the log burner was full to overflowing in ash and look like it had not been emptied in ages. The cottage is very old so we expected no modern heating however the reliance on the log burner makes it even more imperative that there is a starter kit of at least some firefighters and kindling and may be a log or 2. As it was we ended up dashing around the town to try and find fuel for the cottage or face a freezing cold night. None of the electric heaters were plugged in or on timers! Now for the ugly….. The cottage is not on mains sewage so you are asked to disposed of any used toilet paper in a bag and dispose of, we found the bathroom bin full of used sanitary products along with used toilet paper, that had clearly been there for some time. We understand the cottage is old, unique and not to everyone’s choice, but basic cleaning and hygiene is an absolute must lastly the facilities as listed are not available, the Tumble dryer is located in the small outbuilding to the right, this is being used as a general store and you have to climb over piles of stuff to get to the tumble The washing machine was full of dirty and damp tea towels, so again unusable…. Very disappointed with our stay overall Following on from, receving a reply fropm Sykes Cottages - We are unable to make contact with Sykes direclty as neither of the links contained within the emails that were sent out worked! Further more we cut short our break after 1 night, as did not want to stay in a cold, dirty cottage. There was nothing you or the owners could have done to make us stay any longer at this property.

We stayed here back in September and it's only now that our query has been addressed.

I can only mirror what the previous individual commented prior to our stay. Yes I agree the cottage is unique but in my opinion that does not allow an excuse for the cottage to be unclean, damp and foistey, which I believe was our experience. Otherwise, it's a lovely location!

Loved Quarry Cottage!

It was perfect and I hope to stay again. We really enjoyed the decor and coziness and how remote you felt yet there was a (very friendly) local pub 5 minutes away and a shop close by as well as great places to walk the dog from the front door and of course the wonderful steam trains going by regularly at the end of the garden. A very memorable and special stay - thank you!

It was a perfect little cottage.

Peaceful and tranquil t yet close to amenities. The cottage is like a home from home with books and games and even craft activities! I absolutely loved my stay there. The steam train passed a few times a day which was an absolute delight. Its an excellent base to explore the area. I will definitely book again. There were no major negatives just a lovely place to reset and very dog friendly. The garden is fully enclosed and safe for dogs and children.

We had the very worse Welsh weather with storm force winds and torrential rain, but we so cosy huddled down with the log fire. The cottage is well maintained with everything you need for a break, being allowed to have our fury friend was a absolute bonus. Dogs have fleece blankets provided along with poo-bags. Only regret was not staying longer, we shall try and get back in the New Year. If the owner ever wants to sell - drop me a line, as I could see myself retiring to a cottage just like this.

Had a lovely, relaxing stay at Quarry Cottage, only wish the weather had been better for us.

It's central to lots of attractions and in a peaceful location. We would definitely return.

Don't get me wrong, this is a lovely location in a lovely setting.

They've done extremely well with the space they have, and the limits they have. I feel like there needs to be some sprucing up and this place would be fantastic, a new shower head and a screen instead of curtain (This would help with the damp smell), an actual cold fridge, curtains that work, a comfier mattress. Provide bin bags for the toilet paper. Also there was just loads of cobwebs everywhere, granted that it's a wild place. But they don't happen overnight, just makes you question what they actually clean.

Quarry Cottage was perfect for a stay in Wales, very quirky.

Had everything needed and a great location for exploring mid Wales.Loved the narrow gauge railway at the bottom of the garden. Nice secure garden and secluded and fantastic that the owners allow 3 dogs. Just be mindful of parking as no allocated space, but not a huge problem.

Quarry Cottage is very quaint and quite unique - not many places have a narrow gauge railway at the front gate!

The railway theme is carried through into the cottage with some nice little touches. There are sufficient facilities for you to be self catering and enough equipment to help you. The garden is ideal for dogs though we didn't have brilliant weather so couldn't use the benches etc. There is a great dog walk just up the road on a public footpath - it even has a dog bin as well!

Hi, we had a great time and were really pleased with how well it worked for the dogs, particularly the enclosed garden.

We had a good experience when we stayed at Quarry cottage, it was so cosy and relaxing.

It was peaceful at night, you could only hear the occasional hoot from an owl. The history in the cottage also adds to the experience, and the layout and furnishings keep this history in reality. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.
