“The cottage was perfect and finished to a very high standard.”

The cottage was warm and comfortable and we lived the steam train running along the bottom of the garden. The location was quiet and very beautiful with the mountains behind. Parking for 2 cars was a slight issue. The only draw backs were no instructions for the dishwasher and the tumble dryer didn't work. The contact details for the owner in the visitors book were for a company no longer used and when we reported the tumble dryer to Sykes we heard nothing more from them. As a family if four ...

As a family if four adults the tumble dryer was an issue. Would love to visit again and adored the cottage.

“Lovely cottage with lots of character.”

It was quite warm during our stay, so we appreciated that half the garden provided shade. The steam train went right past the end of the garden on Saturday which my 3 year old grandson loved. The rear garden is enclosed, which was great for the dogs and there was a nice walk a few minutes stroll from the property. Some little details need attention like hardly any tumblers for drinks and the tumble dryer doesn't seem to dry clothes, unless we were doing something wrong. All in all a very enjoyable stay and we would come back

“We enjoyed our stay, the views were amazing and the location was perfect for long walks and visiting other areas in Wales.”

While the house was generally very comfortable, we felt the amenities could do with improvement. There were very few, mismatched glasses, toilet rolls supplied were half used, and there were huge stinging nettles in the garden. Hand soaps hadn’t been refilled and considering we were staying 10 days, we were only given one bin bag.

A cute little place with all amenities provided. Well situated for trips to the beach and the mountains. Massive comfy sofa, well equipped kitchen, washer and dryer all.meant a great break. Outside space for chilling or watching the trains.

Needs TLC Front garden needs weeding Front garden needs gas box repaired Front garden needs old BBQ tray removed Front garden black bags removed Front wall of house needs repairs Back garden needs weeding Patio needs weeding Garden furniture needs replacing as collapsed hurting one of us all rotten Fridge shelf grimy and dirty we cleaned it Rug in front room we washed it as it was so disgusting One wine glass we donated four One tumbler glass No pint glasses Worktops could do with sanding and resealing Worst thing we loved the cottage and location shabby chic works well, we might go back it these items are rectified

“Fantastic cottage everything nearby shops pubs etc.”

Stayed for hiking was nice to get back and relax with the log fire and a film and few glasses of baileys after a wet/windy hike up Snowdon. Will definitely stay here again.

“A beautiful quirky cottage that just needs a little TLC.”

We loved our stay here but a few things we feel just needed sorting. It was also wonderful reading the owners story! The bunk beds were wobbly and looking down I noticed the edge/slats were really dirty. Bath takes a really long time to drain. We needed to mop the floor due to a split drink. The mop had seen better days!

“We had a lovely time at this very nicely styled and very comfortable property.”

Since we came by train we were very happy with the spices and cooking oil in the cupboard. Would love to come back some day. If i need to name little improvements it would be the worn out frying pans, the freezer badly in need of defrosting and more seating outside (there was only the one hanging chair with a cushion, would have another comfy chair outside.

It was clean and comfortable. The only issue we had was that the black bin had not been emptied prior to our arrival.

“We stayed at Miner's Rest for 4 nights between 17th and 21st of March 2025.”

We were there to visit the Go Below deepest slate mine in the world. The cottage was lovely and clean and warm upon arrival with a pint of milk in the fridge and Welsh cakes on the kitchen worktop. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The back is large enough to tire out our Springador and I really enjoyed sitting in the swing chair to read my book. The sofa is extremely comfortable and the shower has very good pressure, the water lovely and hot. The neighbour is very friendly.

The fascinating old slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is situated in a superb position for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. There is a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat. The main local attractions include Zip World Slate caverns, the longest zip line in Europe and fastest in the world, this is a great underground adventure. The slate mines now hold the prestigious status of a world heritage site, awarded by UNESCO and visitors can take enthralling underground trips there to see mining as it was done in days gone by. The famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog mountain railway also runs for 13 miles through the Snowdonia National Park to the harbour town of Porthmadog. Nearby is Portmeirion village, famous for its architecture and the film set of the cult TV series The Prisoner, plus local beaches, suitable for children, are within easy driving distance.
