Honestly this cottage is perfect for your Welsh adventures.

We spent a week here and enjoyed every second. If you want the ritz then this isn’t the place for you, but if you want a good location to be based from with amazing spots for adventures then I can’t rate this place enough. It has all the basics you need, yes there was some dust under the bed but I wasn’t living under there, it was comfortable, clean and a brilliant base to come back to after our days out. The cottage was very warm, we had to turn off the heaters during the night as the building held the heat well. The kitchen had the basics of everything you needed (if I was going to be fussy then I would say maybe some more utensils but we had enough to make do). We very much enjoyed our time here and would come back again, we are currently looking at September/October for a return visit.

Very sad to say my hopes of a cosy winter holiday in a rustic Welsh cottage did not come true.

I would not recommend staying in this property in colder months. We booked 4 nights in February but only stayed 2 nights because it was very cold. It took a couple of days to warm up at all, due to the inadequate electric heaters installed around the property. I also got the hearth roaring hot both days we stayed, but once the fire went out, it got deathly cold again. The bedrooms heated up ok, but the downstairs was very cold. I usually prefer cooler temps indoors, but this pushed me past my limits. The hot tap in the bathroom did not adequately heat the water for washing, which compounded the general coldness of the property. The owners shouldn’t lease this cottage out over winter until they install central heating. Or at least turn on the electric heating a day (at least) before visitors stay. I challenge the owner to stay in their own cottage over winter, then tell me if they had a nice stay! It was far too cold! The general cleanliness and dusting could be improved too. For example, under one of the beds was a lot of dust and an old TV! The bathroom door had gaps in it, you could look out to the corridor while sitting on the toilet - not great for privacy! This lovely Welsh cottage needs a lot more loving care made by its owners. Such a shame because the house itself and interior is beautiful, and Blaenau is a rugged and majestic location. I’m half-welsh and have family from Blaenau and Wrexham on my dad’s side. More improvement is needed for this cottage before it's adequate for holiday leasing, especially for colder months. I suspect the owners have stopped caring and just want to get the rental money coming in with as little effort as possible. Very disappointing!

Nice enough place.

Peaceful and quiet. It is an old house with all it charms and modern amenities tacked onto it. Only issue for me was the door cram on the bedroom and bathroom is too low and I kept hitting my head every day. No anyone’s fault but really frustrating.

Lovely rustic cottage, like stepping back in time, loved making a fire after arriving back from our walks in the mountains, having our dog with us was lovely, would never go anywhere without him.

It's a stand alone cottage, so no immediate neighbours, which was nice. We parked across the road, just over the easily accessable train tracks, (10 second walk from cottage) advised by 1 neighbour and the owner of the bus company across the road. Incredibly quiet area with lovely accomodating locals. The surrounding mountains were incredible, lots of old slate mining, waterfalls, streams, forests, and outdoor activities on offer. Beautiful place.

No toilet paper no bin liners no washing liquid or scara.

Up stairs okay,down stairs neads work.Heating good.Shame about the over grown garden,could be made nice.

The cottage itself was lovely, however, we would not recommend staying here.

The garden was completely overgrown, and the cottage had not been cleaned properly.

We knew that the house was small and basic, but the pictures and the description didn’t tell the whole story.

The house is dark, smelly and moisty, so we had to put on the heating to get rid of it. The doors the clamp, The Floors uneven and the bathroom and the kitchen are rickety. It was an indoor camping experience, while we the amount we paid was for a house with moderate luxury.

Hello, We recently stayed at the cottage and wanted to share some honest feedback to help improve future guests' experience.

A few issues we encountered: Parking: Although you mention parking around the corner and avoiding spaces in front of houses, the reality is that even parking outside the sold property results in hostility from locals. We ended up parking slightly up the road on the pavement not ideal. This should be made clearer in the listing. Garden: The garden is quite neglected, with weeds throughout and an untidy appearance. It's also not secure for dogs, as there's a section without fencing. We had to block it off ourselves with an old gate. Smell of damp: Upon entering, there's a strong smell of humidity. We understand it’s an older building, but this could be easily improved with some dehumidifying and air fresheners placed a few days before guests arrive. General maintenance: The cottage needs some TLC. While it has charm, it crosses the line into feeling a bit neglected. There are loose wires (e.g. near the entrance), lots of old paint layered over itself, and various signs of wear and tear. Cleanliness and essentials: There was no vacuum cleaner provided, so the place got dusty quickly, even during our short stay. Plates, mugs, and cutlery needed washing before use, the tea towel was stained, and we found dead flies inside the bathroom lampshade. Cleanliness should be a basic expectation. Outdoor space: The patio could be lovely but feels underused. A small outdoor table and chairs would make a big difference, as would a bench or hammock in the more secluded part of the garden, which currently feels overgrown and forgotten. Storage and space: The dining area is very small and there’s limited storage space for clothes. If staying longer than a few days, you’ll end up living out of suitcases. A couple more storage options would go a long way. There is only one dresser in the hallway - not enough for 4 people. Positives: The wood burner and supplied wood were a lovely touch. Beds were comfortable. Great location: close to the coast and only 40 minutes from Mount Snowdon. I don’t mean to be overly negative, but for the price point, I did expect better - especially when some of these points (like cleaning) have been raised in other reviews. A few inexpensive updates could really lift the experience for future guests

This cottage was OK as a basic, base but nothing more, which is so sad because it has so much potential and could be lovely.

The cleanliness was not good, the doors and light switches were dirty, in the kitchen the cutlery container was dirty, an outside tap has been used on the kitchen sink, instead of a proper chrome bib tap, so you can only just fit the kettle underneath to fill it. Toaster, filthy, rusty, full of old toast etc.The wooden bed upstairs was covered in dust, and it had chipwood on the base, the sheets were clean but had stains on. The second bedroom's metal headboard was very dirty and again a piece of chipwood on the base, and miss matched bedding. The toilet seat has no lid, the water heater doesn't turn off, and barely heated the water. I appreciate that it is an old cottage, but there are old cobwebs everywhere, not new ones that have appeared since the cleaner has been. The painted stairs are chipped and were dirty. The garden was like a jungle and encroaching onto the path. No lawn as stated in your description ! No proper garden furniture, just fold up wooden chairs. If the owners need pictures of above comments, we can supply for their benefit.

This is a cozy cottage with a working Fire Place and a comfortable bed.

I can see why it’s was put up for rent. However, the maintenance of the House needs some care. The Garden was so wild we could barely make it to the House, and we had some issues with the overall cleanliness, especially some of the pet-hair. A hoover, some soap, a radio etc could upgrade the house. We reached out to skyescottages during our stay but didn’t receive any answers.

Such a lovely quaint old cottage, it was like stepping back in time, we loved our stay there, very relaxing, x

We both had a very enjoyable stay at Nyth -Ye- Eryr.

Tranquil and relaxing. All facilities worked well no problem. Quite spacious inside and out and very nicely detatched in it's own setting. It was wonderful to see the gardens left to nature though I would have loved to get my trowel out and do some weeding.

Very basic, a little dirty and quite uncomfortable.

A hub to keep your things, sleep and shower at best. Feels as though the bare minimum has been put into making it a holiday letting.

If you’re looking for a simple, characterful cottage, this is the place for you.

The front garden is a little overgrown, which - after the squeaky-gated pedestrian crossing - gives the cottage a haunted feel if you arrive after dark. Thankfully, this disappears by morning as the sun exposes the gorgeous surrounding landscape. This is a very basic accommodation, and the bold placement of a stray chocolate digestive in one of the bedrooms had us questioning the general cleanliness of the property. We knew there was no TV, but a CD player/radio and perhaps some board games would have been a nice touch to help us settle in. Similarly, we’d have appreciated some body wash in the shower. None of these quirks prevented us from hunkering down and enjoying the wood burning stove with our slippers and a glass of red wine. The bedrooms were snug and comfortable, and the entire cottage is full of charm. Ideal for a short visit exploring Snowdonia.

It's such a lovely cottage.

Yes it's rustic but, as the owners say, it's an ongoing project and they're doing a great job of keeping it 'authentic' whilst updating as needed. The beds and room are comfy and there's plenty of space for a couple of people. The cottage was quite cold when we arrived but the weather had only been warm for a few days by then and it soon warmed up (and kept the heat) once the electric radiators were on. The new patio looks great and bet it'll be lovely sitting out there on a warm day. The only real downside is we didn't get to see the train running - we must come back to the area after the end of March in future, as that's when things seem to start up! Regardless, we had a wonderful short stay and were able to do a lot of exploring in lovely weather with the added bonus of it not being packed everywhere! Thank you again and hope all the future plans for Nyth yr Eryr Cottage go well :-)

We enjoyed the stay at the cottage and appreciated the heating was on when we arrived.

A couple of items to mention....the rocking chair seat was already broken when we arrived....it needs more substantial work on it to make it useable. The little hot water cistern in the bathroom doesn't give any useful amount of hot water and the dial needs a very hard turn to get to OFF, We took plenty of wood for the stove and games, and found lots a good uphill walks from Blaenau. Zip World was an extra treat.

No Fire Starter Pack ( not behind a door, not in the wicker basket not anywhere 2: No 1 Black Rubbish Bag To Be Seen Anywhere 3. Microwave Inside dirty big spats from tomatoes sauce and other sorts! 4. Not Clean, Kitchen Cutlery Tray Dirty You have to wash everything before use. Floors dirty. Under Wooden Bed Full Of Dust And Dog Hairs. It’s lovely to allow dogs but there needs to be vacuumed after stays. Also There Was (Probably Still Is, As I Read Another Review Mentioning This) A Dirty Tissue Next To The Bed, Under The (Also Dirty) Bedside Table. From A Previous Stay 5. Shower is really tricky We couldn’t get it nice and warm, and the minute you try to move the button to try to get it warmer it goes ice cold instead. 6. Front Of The Cottage Is Very Muddy It’s Very Tricky To Try To Get Passed It. It Could Do With A Proper Path (Slate In Abundance :). An A Pretty Gate Or Give It A Paint Positive Points: 1. Gorgeous Old Cottage, It Has So Much Potentia, The Cottage Oozes Character. I especially Loved The Upstairs Super Cosy, No Problem Falling Asleep After A Long Sight Seeing Day and Sitting By The Fire (Once We Got The Wood :)) With A Nice Glass Of Red 2. The Owner Is Busy Making A Patio Next To The Cottage, Which Will Be Lovely In Summertime To Sit And Sip A Glass Of Wine :) 3. The Steam Train Railway Right In Front. It Was Delightful To See The Steam Train Going Passed a Few Times And Waving To Each Other :) 4. The Location Is Ideal! Close To The ZipLine Slate Mine Where We Had Booked, And Many Other Sight Seeing Places, Lots To Do And See. Once The Negatives Are Sufficiently Addressed (Change Cleaner!:) It Would Be Perfect

while the beds are had these can be easily rectified with a mattress topper. The kitchen cupboards need to have a curtain to cover them to help reduce the dust that settles on everything as everything you use something you need to wash it first (even if you have used and washed the night before. If i could rate this a a 3.5 I would but it wont allow me to xx Location is perfect and when the train is running it would be amazing to sit out and watch it go by xx would love to return in a year to eighteen months time to see the changes xx

Great cottage, is exactly what it says on the tin.

We had a traditional, rustic Welsh getaway that we throughly enjoyed. It is in a great location, surrounded by history and nature. We would of loved to have had a little history about the cottage and perhaps a little bit more comfort in the living room(bigger sofa or cushions) but other than that, we had a great time! Thankyou so much.

Loved this stay, lovely traditional Welsh cottage and just as described and expected.

Only negative is the wooden double bed could do with replacing as base is precarious. Also no starter pack left for the log burner but we did take our own log packs. Lovely villages either side of the property within easy walking distance. Have booked for a full week next year.

We booked a week over Christmas with our dog.

Could only stay 3 days. Really nice area, in the mountains, secluded but close to everything you'll need for your stay. That's the good. Now for the bad. There really is no parking, so prepare for a pretty long walk from car to house. The actual location of the house is really really bad, and yes you have to cross a railway to enter the property. Luckily it wasn't running in the winter. Then theres the mud, puddles and rubbish that greeted us as we first arrived at the property. Generally the garden and outside areas have been left to rot and not been maintained. Also our springer spaniel did escape the garden, and the key safe is held together with tape. The inside on arrival was so cold no coats were removed for a very long time. Every room had its own electric radiator and all of them were turned on immediately. There is also a wood burner in the living room. But this is the biggest problem with the property. It's impossible to warm up the downstairs. Upstairs was lovely and toasty, but every room downstairs was constantly ice cold. We did receive a wood starter kit that burnt for maybe a hour before needing to buy more. Even with the log burner going it never warmed up to a comfortable level. The kitchen was dirty and didnt have anything to make food. Everything needs to be washed before use theres no enclosed drawers or cupboards so everything just sots in the open to collect dust and insects. Also there isnt really anything more than a few cups, cutlery and a few saucepans. So make sure you pack a few things. Barthroom was really nice, warmest room in the house and everything worked as it should. Although incredibly dangerous as the stairs go half way through the bathroom door. The bed also needs repairing or replacing. Theres a dip in the middle thats so large its noticeable with the naked eye. Its like sleeping in a hamuk. There is no wifi or tv which is stated and missed by ourselves at the time of booking. We did find a few games hidden away in a cupboard. Higly recommend burning them as they are mouldy and stink. Overall the property has so much potential but lacks the care and attention it deserves. If the owners tried to make it a home instead of an abandoned house i would highly recommend. I am writing this in the hope of positive changes not as a complaint.

Very nice little cottage.

I went at the start of December for a little weekend away to escape from the city for a while. This place helped me do that. There is no internet or TV which meant I was disconnected, and whilst my friends had signal of their phones I did not on mine, so I was able to totally disconnect. Was cold when we first arrived, however soon heated up with the radiators on and the log burner going. The near by high street is only a 5-10 minute walk and you can get all your essentials from Morrisons and Co-op, all the other local shops and takeaways are cash only but there are some cash machines in town. Overall I enjoyed my little get away, if your into the Zip wire activities there is one a 5 minute drive away and the others are further along the one A road, so easy access for anyone who wants a base camp for them too!

This property was not clean ; it still had the previous occupants bedding and towels which had been used and were dirty the floors were also disgusting.

You have to cross a railway line to get to the front door. Stay here at your peril!!

We stayed at this cottage for a week.

. It was amazing.. This is our third visit to the area and we loved our stay in this cottage.. It has a log burner that made it feel really cosy and watching the steam trains on the narrow gauge railway chug past you at the bottom of the garden was great.. This cottage has not been over modernised so you get a real feel of an authentic quirky home.. The beds were very comfy with fluffy pillows and nice duvets... The large chest of draws on the landing was big enough for all your clothing needs... The kitchen is basic but the small fridge freezer is enough for a weeks stay.. There is a need for a few bit of kitchen equipment...a roasting tin, spatula, strainer spoon etc... But l know the owners say "it's a work in progress" and when it's done it's going to be ideal for family's, hikers and cyclists (there's a large space in the back corner of the living room to store bikes) We visited with our dog and the garden is secure enough to let them out for a good run around and sniff... I highly recommend this cottage.. We will be back next year..
