The cottage is in a quiet location with great walks from the door. Although we didn’t do it, it is only about a mile walk into town where there are a selection of dog friendly pubs and nice shops. For a good meal the Drovers pub just out of town is well worth a visit. We wouldn’t hesitate booking again when next in the area. Les & Jan and Misty .

“Two fifty somethings and a dog have just spent a lovely quiet week at Distyll.”

Accomodation is pefect to get away from the hustke and busyle of everyday life. Isolated, but a 3 minute drive or 20 min picturesque walk to the town. Grounds are pefect for a dog. Whilst we are both agike i dont see the Accomodation being any problem for people with mobility issues. Definitely intend to go back.

“Lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings.”

Everything was provided for a comfortable stay. Bev and Phil were charming hosts. Wifi works in living room but hit and miss elsewhere. Enjoyed the walk through the woods but disappointed that there is no path into Ruthin. Lots of places to visit within reasonable driving distance. Would definitely recommend this property.

“Distyll is an absolutely wonderful holiday cottage in beautiful countryside.”

From the moment Jac and I arrived, our hosts Phil and Bev were delightful and so welcoming. The welcome gifts were very much appreciated, lovely bottle of red wine, chocolates and dog treats for Jac. The cottage itself is home from home. Everything you need, comfortable bed, hot shower and very clean. Is was great to come back to a warm, cosy cottage after a days walking. There are gorgeous walks from the doorstep into local woodland with streams running through. Ruthin is a nice little town, which is well located to travel to Snowdonia or the North Wales coast if you so wish. All in all a fantastic stay and will definitely be on my return list. Thank you Phil and Bev for a fabulous week away. Kobe and jac.

“Overall, a great stay!”

The cottage is home-home with great facilities. The bed is super cosy and Bev thinks of all the extra's with duck or normal pillows! Bev and Phil are both lovely people, warm and welcoming and eager to make sure everything is okay with the property. The outdoor space is lovely and so peaceful listening to the owl's on an evening. Ella and Phoebe loved the outdoor space to explore. Our only minor comment would be about the washing machine, it may be more beneficial to have a washing machine that the guests can use to do their own washing in, rather than your home washing machine, it's quiet personal giving washing over to Jim and wasn't something I was comfortable with! A few tat recommendations: • the cutlery in the draw, mainly sharp knives are a little blunt we noticed whilst trying to cut veg. • a shower caddy would be helpful in the shower. Great stay in your lovely cottage, and a very relaxing break!

Unfortunately there is no room in out letting annexe to put a washing machine. However if guests would like to put in and take out their own washing in our machine this is no problem. Otherwise we are happy to do it. I will sort out new knives and a shower caddy. Thank you Property Owner

“The cottage was beautiful.”

The owners are very friendly and welcoming. We needed peace and quiet after a recent family bereavement and this is what we got. The cottage is ideally situated for great days out and not far from local shops, Aldi, Tesco etc. Ruthin has welcoming pubs and a lovely chinese restaurant. Will be going back in the future.

“We had a fantastic week at Distyll Cottage, celebrating a family birthday at the weekend and then having the rest of the time walking and relaxing with Belle, our beloved working cocker spaniel.”

The cottage has everything you need and was clean, very comfortable and warm (thanks to the underfloor heating - what a luxury!). My partner enjoyed having Sky TV and watched the football! We had some great wintery weather too which our dog loved and we did the local doorstep walks. So scenic. We would definitely love to visit again and will recommend to family and friends. A perfect little gem - 10/10. :-)

A very warm welcome awaited us on arrival and the vast local knowledge of the hosts exceeded our expectations The cottage is very well appointed with everything you need to make it a home from home. The host are great and are there for you should the need arise. They so want you to enjoy your time on holiday. Lots of great local walks from the property and I lost count of the number of different varieties of apple trees on the property. Gardens are a delight and very well maintained. The resident sheep were a delight. All in all a first class holiday. One place we certainly look forward to returning to.

“As mentioned, the property is situated off a narrow country lane but if you want rural peace and quiet, this’s to be expected; careful drivers shouldn’t have any problems.”

The holiday accommodation is small but felt spacious and comfortable. Very well equipped, warm, and everything worked as it should. Extra bonus for the doggy and human treats in the living room! Our Labrador loved romping in the enclosed garden and field, and the nearby woodland walks were a great way to start and end the day. The owners were present and friendly but not intrusive, and very helpful in their recommendations of places to go, of which there were plenty. Highly recommend Distyll for a base for a couple to visit north Wales.

The property is spacious and very comfortable. The garden also is very nice. An easy walk into Ruthin which is a very nice little town. Bev & Phil were very good hosts, unobtrusive but very helpful. We noted that some reviewers suggested that there was little in the way of hot water and that there was a noisy pump running at night. Rubbish. The water was hot and plentiful and there was no noise at night other than the occasional hoot of an owl. Similarly it is a very easy drive to the property. Highly recommended.

“We had the loveliest week staying at Distyll.”

It was the perfect place to survive the heatwave - sunbathing in the garden underneath the willow tree was absolute bliss. The annexe is beautifully set up - comfy bed, comfy sofas and a kitchen with everything you might need. The TV has Sky Sports (much appreciated in a week with both the Open and cricket going on). We were absolutely welcomed - nothing too small - even when our dog kept finding his way into the main house! Would definitely come and stay here again.

“The details in respect of the proximity to a pub and a shop are incorrect.”

The pub has closed down and the shop is three quarters of a mile away. Access to the property is down a one car width road with no passing places for one third of a mile - not for the faint hearted. We spent a week there without hot water for a bath or a quick wash. The water was luke warm. This is due to the ineffective ground source heating system. However, the shower is electrically heated. In addition a pump within the house can disrupt sleep as can people walking around upstairs. The pump can be turned off but this is not a solution as the owners seem to require it for their water supply. However, the property is well appointed, comfortable and situated in a beautiful setting. Sky TV is good, as is the internet access. Zero mobile phone coverage though in the house.

Our property is accessed by a quiet lane and there are 4 passing places leading to our house. We have been with Sykes for 10 years and in that time no-one else has had any issues with the water temperature or any pump noise. Most guests can get mobile phone coverage inside depending on their provider and our landline is available if required. We are sorry that these guests were unhappy with certain things but you can’t please everyone and are grateful that so many of our visitors give us a 100% rating for their stay. Some lovely touches - the chocolates and the dog treats. Only comment is that maybe it would be good to note somewhere on the listing that the accommodation is linked to host’s house and is underneath rooms in the host’s house? It may be an issue for some guests. We did feel a little like we had to keep our voices low and we’re concerned when our anxious dog (our fault as she is a lockdown pup and hasn’t travelled much!) barked at night!

I am disabled and could get around everywhere with walker or manual wheelchair. Lip into shower but fits shower chair in. Probably wouldn't be suitable for an electric wheelchair though. Great hosts - Bev and Phil gave us a really warm welcome and were on site for anything we needed. Gorgeous spot where we could walk dogs from door but there are also walks further away though we didn't explore them this time as we only had a short stay. We have already booked to return next year for a week. Highly recommended - we and our two dogs all loved it and there is a fenced garden for dogs to play in.

The cottage is impeccably clean and tastefully decorated, but still very comfortable as is the enormous bed. Would not hesitate to recommend Dystill for those looking for a quiet, chilled break while near enough to see a lot of North Wales

“Distyll is a wonderful bolt hole.”

The holiday let annex is attached to an old, well renovated mill. It nestles in a valley surrounded by fields and woodlands, in the village of Llanfwrog, near Ruthin. The owners live in the main part and are perfect hosts; friendly but not interfering. The cottage is lovely and warm, spacious and very well equipped. We particularly enjoyed sitting eating our breakfast, whilst looking out of the kitchen window onto the garden with its babbling brook and weeping willow. We have already recommended this lovely cottage to family and friends, despite only arriving home 2 days ago. We would also be very happy to return.

1 mile of single track road with very few passing places, luckily, it is not very busy . There is no DAB signal, and very week phone signal. Wi fi is only in the lounge, but having said all that, this is an ideal place for a quiet get away from it all break, with excellent hosts.

Both Bev and Phil were very welcoming. Were there if needed. The facilities were excellent and with underfloor heating we were never cold. I would recommend this cottage it is a real home from home. So relaxing. Very comfortable bed. We were very lucky with the weather for October. Only had one rainy day. We went to Tweedmill shopping outlet. A lovely place. The scenery is stunning and the roads fairly quiet. Most places are no more than 1 hours drive away making it an excellent base for sight seeing etc. Mobile phone signal is limited but we did manage to get an internet connection. As the cottage is on a country road it was pitch black at night so a strong torch may be a good idea. Would definitely return.

RUTHIN

Llangollen 12 miles; Bala 18.5 miles; Chester 25 miles; Betws-y-Coed 30 miles.

The hilltop town of Ruthin lies to the north of Llangollen via the breathtaking Horseshoe Pass. The town is picturesque with attractive half-timbered buildings, mainly clustered around St Peter’s Square. There are many interesting shops and buildings, whilst the Nant Clwyd House (the oldest timber frame in Wales), Ruthin Gaol and Ruthin Craft Centre, which houses work by internationally recognised artists and craftspeople, are also worth a visit. Beautiful countryside is on Ruthin’s doorstep with Lake Brenig, Moel Famau Country Park and Clocaenog Forest close by. Further afield, but still within easy touring distance, are the coast, Snowdonia National Park and historic Chester.
